Tesla charging me while still under warranty?

SnooMacaroons1365 | 2026-02-25 00:03 | 5 views

today while driving, i noticed that everytime i let go off the gas pedal, a clicking sound comes out.. and sometimes its twice that comes everytime. with that, i notice a micro brake lag with regen braking. it also happens when i am on autopilot and brake starts to engage automatically. I assume its the loose wire that hammers and causes the lag until it stretches enough to pull and creates a sharp click noise. So i opened a service request and this is what they wrote. $192 and may change according to warranty eligibility. it could be 0 as it should be but i dont want them to tell me that its a $1000 after repairs are done. i am not sure how to proceed on this. can someone please assist me before they finalize the drop-off date? thanks a lot

The $192 is there as a placeholder in order to generate the estimate. If the repair is found to be under warranty, the final invoice will be $0.

Diagnosis 1 hour quote. They check to make sure it’s actually warranty and not collision for example. If found to be warranty, the $192 will be removed

Will they inform me of the cost before they do repairs? Its my first time so i am just getting prepared to walk in informed. Thanks :)

Example: screen has been smashed. Not a warranty issue. You have now been charged a diagnosis and a replacement estimate will follow. If however the screen is just not working and there’s no external damage, a warranty repair for $0 of under warranty will follow.

Thanks a lot sir. I also recently changed tires at discount tires ( non tesla), i hope they don't point towards it saying that non Tesla caused the issue.

Yes they should notify you of what the issue is and the cost if you proceed with it (free if issue is covered under warranty)

A pebble piece of sand in the caliper / brake pad ?

This is normal for most companies.

Yeah the text could be better to be clear it will only be charged if it's outside of warranty and that no work beyond the estimate will be completed or charged without approval. It's clear it's an estimate but it could definitely be less ambiguous in how it's worded, clearly if only because of the twice daily posts questioning it if nothing else 🤦🏻

I recently had issue with my front camera washer, it stopped washing the camera and instead the water was coming from inside the bumper. They quoted me something similar, but when I told them I'm not approving the estimate because I strongly believe this should be under warranty, they removed the charge before the appointment and I accepted $0. At the end, they fixed it under warranty as well.

They will quote you first then when you bring in the car, the advisor will let you know if its under warranty and waive the fee
