2026 Tesla Model Y Premium AWD 19” stock wheels

Thoughts on efficiency? About half is driven using FSD. Does anyone of you ever deactivate FSD just to maximize regen to avoid it using the brake pads? 😅😅😅

does FSD not use regen?

MistahFluffayy 2026-02-24 23:09

It implements both regen and brake pads

This is great efficiency IMO. Mine at 255 wh/mile for 3k miles with chill mode and 50% on FSD. I’m on 19 inch wheels as well.

I don't have mine yet but from those numbers it looks like great efficiency if I'm understanding the numbers correctly. Since charge you're using 2.8 kWh to go 13.5 miles = 4.8 miles/kWh. Based on the trip odometers you're averaging 4.2 miles/kWh. Assuming 74 kWh of capacity, your range is about 311 miles. I hope I get close to that but given my driving conditions I'm expecting closer to 280 real world, much less between charges since I plan on keeping it between 20% and 60% charged as much as possible. My current plug-in hybrid barely manages a paltry 2.8 to 3.0 miles/kWh at best. It's usually closer to 2.5. BTW, I've looked through the manual but I can't find a way to get the car to display the mile/kWh reading. Am I missing something or does the car not have this particular gauge? And if it doesn't, does anyone know of a 3rd party app that has it? It's easy enough to calculate using the miles driven/kWh but it would be much easier to just open an app and have it instantly available without having to do math.

Taking your foot off the pedal also blends in the brakes. Just switch it to a less aggressive mode... or switch it off momentarily. You aren't necessarily going to improve much with one over the other. I will say that the higher level fsd settings do use unnecessarily aggressive breaking which can lower overall efficiency, but so can the more aggressive acceleration.

😐…. 🤬

It uses regen but it’s not optimized for range recapture etc in my opinion. What I mean by that is you could do better at hyper milling and getting better range yourself but for the convenience it’s worth letting it drive.

Those numbers look really good to me. I certainly don’t average that low.

MistahFluffayy 2026-02-25 00:39

Don’t believe we have that. What are you looking to get ? Excited for you. Best car ever!

FedRP24 2026-02-25 01:12

FSD is by far the most efficient way to drive, and this is quite good efficiency for model y

Podican 2026-02-25 01:14

Oh really? Is this all the time when using standard deceleration? Or does it only use the brakes when stopping and holding position from a very slow speed? I thought it was all regen down until like the last 3 mph.

wtfredditacct 2026-02-25 01:33

I just remember reading it blends in the brakes to maximize regen, so that's entirely possible

Already ordered it! Model Y Premium AWD, stealth gray w/tow hitch. I'm picking it up Friday morning and trading in a '23 Rav4 Prime XSE. Still a bit uneasy about the loss of what I consider unlimited range with the Rav but lately I haven't taken any real road trips and 99% of my driving over the last year has been just work commute, errands, and weekend outings around town. But I've always liked knowing that the day I wake up and decide to take a 4 or 5 hour road trip without worrying about range or charging I can do it without a second thought. I will lose that with the Tesla but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I recently did a ~1,000 mile road trip from LA to Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. Not a problem. The automated trip planner makes it so easy. Sit back, turn on FSD, and just chat with your passengers

I’m guessing you live somewhere warm? Those efficiency numbers aren’t possible in colder weather unless you’re a hyper miler. But either way those are impressive numbers. I’m around 280 wh/mi or so.

Strikyrr 2026-02-25 03:48

What’s your driving been like over the course of owning it? Mostly highway or mostly city driving? Half and half?

MistahFluffayy 2026-02-25 04:07

Los Angeles

MistahFluffayy 2026-02-25 04:08

Maybe 40/60 local / highway

Slayerz00m 2026-02-25 13:15

Maybe you think in terms of miles/kwh, but Tesla have always shown wh/mile and most of us are used to those numbers. Anything below 250wh/mile is awesome My lifetime on MYLR 2023 is around 285wh/mile. Unsolicited Tip: rename the Trip B to "LIFETIME - DON'T RESET" and then don't reset it ever. It will track lifetime efficiency.

Slayerz00m 2026-02-25 13:22

Anything below 250wh/mile is awesome My lifetime on MYLR 2023 19" Gemini is around 285wh/mile. OEM tires and then Continental pro contact tires _(i.e nothing fancy to degrade range)_ So your 237wh/mile is awesome 👍 My guess - your average drive ends up close to optimum 40mph speed, in non-freezing weather. In my experience Speed affects the efficiency a lot. _(weather is always nice in my area)_ Unsolicited Tip: rename the Trip B to "LIFETIME - DON'T RESET" and then don't reset it ever. It will track lifetime efficiency.

How fast are you driving or have it set to on the freeway?

MistahFluffayy 2026-02-25 19:29

FSD Sloth and I drive manually in Chill. Occasionally floor it for fun for passengers lol.

TryAskingForUrRWY 2026-02-25 21:27

For my MY juniper AWD I’m at 248.1 wh/mi at 4,678 mi. Mostly 85% highway. Only 1450mi on FSD during trial. Would like to be closer to yours but not enough street time.
