Keep 2018 Model X 75D (125k miles, FSD paid) or trade now for Model Y Premium AWD at 0.99% APR?

Hi Community Need your objective input. Current car: 2018 Model X 75D -Fully Paid 125,000 miles FSD fully paid Trade in offer: $12,000 I am considering trading it before March 31 and moving into a new Model Y Premium AWD and transfer my model X FSD at 0.99% APR. Main driver is reducing high mileage Model X repair risk and resetting into a new platform with warranty coverage. Questions for those who have done something similar: 1. At 125k miles, is $12k a reasonable trade value for a 2018 X with FSD, or am I leaving money on the table? 2. For those who kept a high mileage X, what major repair events hit after 100k miles and what were your costs? 3. If you switched from an older X to a new Y, did reliability and total cost of ownership materially improve? 4. From a financial standpoint, is this the logical exit point before depreciation accelerates further, or is it smarter to run the X into the ground if battery and drivetrain are healthy? Trying to decide whether this is a disciplined risk management move or an emotional upgrade decision.Thank you

I'm gonna say it first. The premium is really novelty. I would just get the rwd/awd and splurge on the all weather mats, the trunk and frunk liners and the charger converter door holder. live free with FSD. 0% over 0.99% isn't a lot, but the premium features are honestly kitsch. Premium connectivity is a better value than some lighting effects you'll hardly experience.

FSD transfer or no?

rameshchetty 2026-02-24 02:10

Yes I’m Eligible to transfer FSD by March 31st

Transfer FSD and sell privately

ihateroomba 2026-02-24 02:40

At 125k no one will touch it

That makes it very tempting. If money is no object then do it. If reliability of yours is a concern and you can't afford to be stranded somewhere then do it.

If FSD is eligible for transfer that’s a definite trade in.

I’d do it if fsd transfers

I think I would trade for a new model y. It’s marginally better with 0.99 rate and a bare bones model. You’re buying an ageless and safe chauffeur, nothing else. Buy a car you would want your kid to inherit is my guidance. But that’s just me.

Does FSD even work in a 2018? That transfer option is nice and the hardware v4 on the Juniper is awesome. You may never have to drive again! And, yeah, you are going to be paying for repairs etc with your X. Your range probably sucks now as well. 12k is not bad for a trade in and that APR is nice .
