Which Model?

Busy_Ad_6074 | 2026-02-23 21:20 | 0 views

Seems everyone on here is getting the premium model over the standard. We currently have ordered a standard, but are waiting for the VIN to get assigned so we can still switch it up. Is the premium model that much better than the standard? We have never had a tesla and this is the first new car we have ever bought. Is it worth switching and why? Update: I switched and I picked up the premium model y. Thank you all for your feedback, after getting the premium I think it’s 100% worth it! I hope that this post is able to help others making the same decision

Watch some YT videos on what they stripped out of the standard vs the premium. It’s up to you if it’s worth it but IMO I would not buy standard. It feels like they stripped out $10k worth of upgrades for a $5k discount (if doing RWD).

Premium Suspension upgrade itself is worth the 5k. The standard uses the pre-juniper suspension.

This. I'd only do a standard if I absolutely didn't care about what they stripped out. But what you get in a premium is "worth" more than $5k if you price them separately.

Where you from? In Europe the difference is 10k+ in some countries plus we keep more functions like folding mirrors and autosteer (but that goes for all versions of course, for now at least.) I bought the std. In US for ‘only’ 5k I would spent the extra 100%. Suspension and audio you will hear a lot, but cabin noise is not great on the standard either, my older model 3 with double glass was way quieter. It actually irritates me the wind noise.

I ordered a Standard at the Tesla store, and after about 30 minutes of research when I got home, I called back and switched to a Premium RWD. Unless you see cars as something that takes you from point A to B and nothing else, the Premium is very much worth it for an additional $5K. I posted the difference between the Standard and Premium RWD in a separate post. You can reference that if needed. Good luck!

Agreed, I saw one video where the frunk can't keep the rain out. You have to make sure whatever is stored in there on a rainy day can handle getting wet.

Premium

Look at the feature and range differences, and if they matter to you. We can’t decide for you, but personally I wouldn’t get the standard.

$5k isn’t enough of a drop to me. Premium.

i think the standard is a ripoff and a cash grab personally.. but take that with a grain of salt

Imo, the premium is 100% worth it if you can swing it. Far more premium for not much more money. The cabin quietness, more soft touch material, biodefense, hepa filters, I’m sure i’m missing more.

Just needing to go in to the screen to move the front seats to be able to fold the back is enough for me to not consider it.

Premium, the ways these cars work with constant minor updates and improvements in the new models, you will regret buying down

I’ve virtually did the same exact thing. I ordered a standard slept on it in less than a day later. Went to the Premium version. I did not like the front not ceiling properly. I could not get over the center console not extending all the way to the screen. I could not stand no hubcaps available for 18 inch rims. I could not stand the car not even coming with floor mats??? I could not stand a simple plastic on the inside of the doors. My thought is the same. I’ve never had a Tesla so me having a Tesla and buying a standard it would be new to me. However, after taking all under consideration, I did not want to get into a car every day and think that I wanted the other one.

Just look at the Frunk, I rarely use my frunk but if it tells you anything question what else they did to save money that you don’t see

May be fine. I would just confirm whether or not the frunk is waterproof. If water gets in I’d just go for the premium. I’ve got premium rwd with fsd and tow package and love it. Would not change a thing. Went with stealth gray and black interior

The brutal thing is its a 14k difference in Canada
