Considering used Model Y. Ordering from Tesla vs Car Dealership

actorguy73 | 2026-02-23 18:38 | 7 views

Considering a 2024 Model Y. If I am to understand, if I ordered from Tesla, I would have to pay non refundable $500 deposit. I would not get any pictures beforehand. I would also have to drive to my closest delivery center 4 hours away for pickup. That doesn't make much sense to me vs buying from a dealership.

You somehow convinced yourself against using one of the best parts of buying a Tesla. So fine, buy it from a Car Dealership. Why are you asking us?

Don’t forget you get an additional year of warranty coverage

Why would you purchase a vehicle from a dealership that knows nothing about the type of car they’re selling. This Reddit channel always ends up doing the cleanup work for people who purchase from non-Tesla dealers.

Get it from Tesla.  I’ve seen too many nightmare stories from people who can’t charge a week after purchasing a used tesla

The main benefit you'd get is an extra year of warranty (or 10,000 miles) by ordering directly from Tesla.

Seamless transaction purchasing a CPO through Tesla. Regular dealerships are horrible with all the upselling they try to do. Loved the no hassle approach Tesla offers.

Well, they don't have any available to my specifications at my nearest delivery center currently. I will monitor it. Thanks for the input.

And the fact you skip the dealership model

That is definitely worth something...I despise it!

And you will buy what was advertised. For third party dealerships all MY are a long range AWD, they just don't know anything about Teslas.

I would’ve loved to buy from Tesla but they had nothing in the area matching my specs, I couldn’t justify throwing dollars away on shipping, and they’re so much higher than market. Check out evauto.com. They specialize in EVs and know what they’re doing. I had a great experience.

I bought from a local Ford dealership, 25’ Ultra Red MYP w/ 12Kmi. Negotiated all details via text before going to look at it. Got it for 40K (listed at 42). They didn’t know what they had and just wanted to get rid of it, perfect scenario. Good luck finding anything like that on the Tesla inventory. I’d have had to pay a premium and 2K for delivery from Florida to PNW

private sale is the only way

I had a perfect experience buying used from a small private dealership. They even drove the car to drain the battery below 20% and performed a day-long battery health test while holding the car for me, with a verbal agreement I'd back out if it tested under 90%.
