A clay bar might be able to take all of that off. If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself any detailer should be able to do it. It doesn’t look like actual paint damage, just grit from the road stuck on there.
It is actually paint damage. I will look into the clay bar option
I would try that first to see how it’d look afterwards Repainting the whole panel will be expensive.
I have a quicksilver Juniper and have the same issue. I have RallyArmor mud flaps which help a ton but still get some decent chips. Will be following this post to see if anyone has a solution. I will most likely get the paint correction kit and have the car detailed once a year or so, rather than installing PPF on that spot.
I have the same damage. West Virginia drops gravel in the snow for traction, and that eats away at these panels even with mud flaps.
Indeed paint damage. You’ll notice that a lot of us run rock chip guards (mudflaps). Especially performance owners
We had PPF done on the lower half of the car immediately. It’s amazing how much debris the front tires throw back onto the car.
My car came from the factory with a small piece of ppf there. Not sure why some people got it and others didn’t.
I've DIYd PPF from the get-go, so far so good!
I have a ‘21. When they launched, the PPF and mud flaps weren’t included. Everyone got a kit in the mail a short time after I bought mine. I had one trip over a gravel road and my doors were chipped up in the same spot. The only hope of keeping the paint in good condition there is with PPF.
Yup same I got the small PPF and front mud guards
Depends on location
I have a 25 m3 in stealth grey Love the car but the paint stinks
Is there a part of the country without rocks?
Mudflaps prevent most of this damage.
😹😎😹
I remember being told cars in northeast would get ppf there. At delivery in northeast, I asked. Tesla guy said ‘what’s ppf’. So yeah, no, not me. And yeah years later pretty clear why ppf should be there. At this point I consider it a tattoo.
I had a ‘21 and didn’t get a kit in the mail
I agree with u but tesla decided to provide it usually due locations where it snows and theres salt like what op described
Perhaps it was a Canadian thing. I had ordered the kit on my own and then I received another kit at a later point in time, complementary.
Ppf available on tesla website would have prevented it. It's around $50.
Canadian models have mandatory PPF installed at the factory alongside with front mud flaps. However, they are also available as an add on / parts.
I got ppf applied there for this reason. I think some shops have something called a paint touch up kit and they should be able to fix it.
It’s a well documented issue. Has been since the beginning
I drive in southern Nevada and Southern California, so I’m not driving in snow, but I got the same thing within the first 10K miles. I’m now at 115K miles, and it looks about the same. That said, I have the midnight silver metallic color, so it’s less visible than on the red, I guess. Even if I had the red color though, I don’t think I would worry about it. It’s a car, and stuff like this is bound to happen.
More like for those who live in snowy areas, they also add mud flaps and all season tires on performance models instead of summer tires
From the picture it looks like cement dust, as it’s the same colour on the plastics.
PPF.
Who told you it's paint damage? Because it 100% looks just like dirt/mud/salt. That's how my car looks through all winter and after everytime it rains and no paint damage on a 250tkm driven MY in Finland...
I installed mudflaps, and front PPF and asked the shop to install a small piece of ppf in that area, hopefully would prevent some damage in that area .
Tesla installs PPF in certain areas and you can buy the PPF pre-cut kit in the Tesla shop if you want to install them. They are very easy DIY too.
I believe it's state law dependent. I live in NJ where it snows badly some times per year and Tesla does NOT pre-install Mudflaps or that rear PPF.
So why do the plastic trims have the same coloration?
They know this happens, the sell the pod piece for that spot, they just let it happen.. it’s annoying
Had the same damage and fixed it with touch up paint and Maguires. Then put on PPF from Amazon.
What are the exact products did you use?
Touch up paint from a third party on Amazon, doesn't look available any longer. Maguires Ultimate Compound. Random cheap PPF from Amazon. Took a few tries. Covered the entire area on touch up paint then used Maguires after it dried to remove the excess. This took maybe 3 tried because if you are too rough with the Maguires, it removes the paint from the chips. Then put PPF on. That was almost 2 years ago and still all good.
Touch up paint and small rocker panel PPF is your best bet.
Same damage here in NY. I took it to a local shop as soon as I got mine and immediately had the lower door panels installed with PPF because I saw/read this was happening. And yes, it still happens with mud flaps installed.
How much was the fix?
I should have specified that as soon as I took delivery of my Model Y I took it to the shop for the PPF. I haven’t taken it for the pebbling because the PPF is damaged, not the paint.
…. wash your car.
It snows in my neck of the woods, yet mine didn't come factory-installed
