What is this wire?

Professional-Self149 | 2026-02-21 20:03 | 31 views

Bought my 2026 Juniper slightly used (2600 miles) and it looks like the previous owner must’ve added some wire in the car - I feel real dumb asking this but I have NO clue what this wire is for.. what do you guys think? It runs from the front of the car to the trunk.

Dash cam??

lastlaugh100 2026-02-21 20:06

dash cam power

poweruser86 2026-02-21 20:07

Why though, there’s one built in

mrnobatti 2026-02-21 20:07

I added one on my MYP for extra "security"

Comfortable-Car-7298 2026-02-21 20:10

I did the exact same thing in my model 3 to charge my phone. I have an aftermarket phone mount there.

fratzba 2026-02-21 20:12

No, there isn’t. Sentry mode is not a dash cam

jonesaus1 2026-02-21 20:24

The cameras also record driving footage

exjr_ 2026-02-21 20:25

No one is talking about Sentry Mode. Teslas have a built in [dashcam](https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_us/GUID-3BCC07CE-5EA2-4F40-99D1-27690898FF3C.html)

Probably for something like this: [https://www.enhauto.com/pages/dash](https://www.enhauto.com/pages/dash) (there's loads on the market)

NiceBench9100 2026-02-21 20:35

Lol used cars always have fun surprises!

PracticlySpeaking 2026-02-21 21:04

And Sentry Recordings fail to record all the time.

babehboi21 2026-02-21 21:27

Always have a backup dashcam. I have one setup I like to be able to have audio too! So in case of accident or hit and run I can read off the license plate information. Sometimes the autosave on the car doesn't fire and if you forget to honk to save or click the cam button you may lose your recording after 10m or how ever long dash cam records for

harda_toenail 2026-02-21 21:30

Dash cam, radar detector, or phone charger

midnight_to_midnight 2026-02-21 22:39

Redundancy. I have had one in my Model 3 in the past.

Primary-User 2026-02-21 23:15

The camera built in isn’t as high resolution as a purpose made one. Particularly for number plates which can be hit and miss at times. Plus the higher the resolution the better for insurance purposes.

wtfredditacct 2026-02-21 23:38

>Always have a backup dashcam I actually have a backup dashcam that records the screen from my other backup dashcam

w1lnx 2026-02-21 23:45

It's not an OEM cable. It was left/forgotten by the previous driver. Looks like a USB-A to USB-C cable. Maybe. I'd have to see the ends.

babehboi21 2026-02-21 23:46

And I backup the backup dash cam that's backing up lol

Professional-Self149 2026-02-22 01:06

That is what it is but what would the use case for this be? Maybe that’s a question for the OG owner lmao

Professional-Self149 2026-02-22 01:06

Ohhh I see, makes sense

Professional-Self149 2026-02-22 01:07

Redundancy is always good, I guess ha

Professional-Self149 2026-02-22 01:12

Do you have the usb-a end plugged into the 12V socket in the trunk?

Comfortable-Car-7298 2026-02-22 01:17

I have a 2020, I don’t think I have one there, I plugged it into one of the rear seat usbs. I routed it like that because I only have 2 usbs upfront, one is used for sentry and the other is used as quick access secondary charging, headphones passengers phone etc.

w1lnx 2026-02-22 01:31

Well, let's think of all the common things people want to have USB chargers for in their cars: \- Third-party dash cam. \- Radar detector. \- A phone mount+Qi charger to put the phone up in the eye-line of the driver.

PugMaster007 2026-02-22 01:35

USB A to USB C

Whit3boy316 2026-02-22 03:06

Probs for one of those portable in car sex pump things
