Hit and run. How to fix this?

1IQ__ | 2026-02-21 15:45 | 0 views

Long story short, I was at my work and someone had bumped into the rear of my car and didn’t notice this happened until 2 days later. No, sentry mode was not on as the place I work and where I parked, I could see the car and it was close to closing time. I did check my works camera footage a few days back and an old guy in a corolla hit it but footage was too pixelated to see the plate. The paint transfer was much much worse until I was able to wipe off what I can. Now there is this dent that I can’t unsee and all other paint transfer and scratches. Anyone have recommendations on how to fix this? Mainly getting the scratches off? Thanks!

Looks like surface scratches. Should be able to be compounded out. Find a shop that does paint chip repair and request that they polish. The dent may be able to be corrected via a PDR specialist.

PDR? And then find a detailer to polish out the scratches and coat the area. It won't be perfect but it'll be much less of an eyesore than this.

Would it be possible to compound the scratches out DIY?

Collect money from insurance, pay extra few months of your loan and forget about that 😉😁

Yes. Dual action polisher, some products (do some research), watch some videos to get comfortable with the process. It’s not hard, it can be time consuming.

TBH, I would go with a professional. Technically, everything in life can be considered DIY. Commenters will make it seem easy but we all have different capacities concerning DIY abilities. For peace of mind, I’d recommend a professional. It shouldn’t cost much. If you do it DIY and ruin it (burn the clear coat, hologram the paint, overwork the polish, etc), you won’t be able to fix it.

Does hit and run claim raise the premium?
