That is an impressive level of ignorance. I gotta hand it to you. Not knowing FSD existed and now owning a new model Y. Slow clap sir.

A lot of people have no idea that FSD exists. Even they have heard of it, a lot of people assume it's like a lane-centering cruise control type of thing. Tesla doesn't do any type of advertising, so many people are genuinely shocked that there are cars on the road right now that can pretty much fully drive themselves from point A to point B.

I was pulled over a few months ago because someone called the police to report me driving without my hands on the steering wheel. They said that I was “waving them around” and “going to kill someone.”
I was dancing. In FSD. They had no idea, and the police had to pull me over to make sure since the complaint was made.
A lot of people have never heard of it, and many who have think it’s just Tesla speak for cruise control basically.

The impressive part is that this person now owns one. They went from not knowing the tech existed to owning a new model Y in a matter of weeks. Thats the part that’s impressive.

This is why Tesla has always charged a ton for FSD. If every clueless person was given FSD for free it would inevitably turn into a disaster.

I’m at $0.08/kWh all year 24/7 in an Atlanta suburb.
I’ve got a 6,000@ sq ft house and our bill maxes out around $280 in the summer with two Teslas.

Welcome to FSD fun journey. A 75 senior here too. Owned a RAM before. Took 3 Tesla test drives on Cybertruck and MY and tried FSD all the times, v13.x. MY FSD was performed better than Cybertruck. Took advantages of credit ordered MY LR AWD for Jersey snow. 97% FSD on 4k miles. Eyes surgery recently and my wife took over supervision (6 months license) while I dozed off, highway all the way. FSD gift to seniors!

Was thinking about getting one for my parents, 85 and also eye surgery / harder driving at night. Of course they are super skeptical, I'll get one and try FSD before giving it to them, but don't know why more Seniors aren't gravitating towards FSD as a necessity for Aging in Place. I hope the Robots are ready when I'm 80!

Which Atlanta suburb because I'm also in ATL suburb and definitely pay more than this.
Add to the fact that gp advertised rate has a bunch of hidden fees they don't disclose and the only way you can figure them out is through a crappy government website

Cobb EMC is our provider with the fixed rate plan.
Looks like they increased the rate to $0.0825 per kWh at some point. $40/month base service charge.
Also note we have a very wooded lot and in perpetual shade. We also basically have a moat with 36,000 gallon koi ponds surrounding our house. I think that keeps some of the AC use down in the summer.

Look into the tire and windshield coverage through tesla. I suggest going to a safe environment and practicing taking over in different scenarios. Practice takeovers via braking, manually turning off, and by moving the steering wheel manually to get the feel for it. Welcome to the family boomer.

I thought it was a great idea for my elderly parents because they don’t drive much anymore. I ended up calling the local Tesla dealership and they let us borrow one for 24 hours for my parents to try it out. I ended up buying it for myself two days later! 🤣🤣🤣

Be careful though, they still need to be in the position to safely take over in the event of disengagements or FSD mistakes. That’s actually a gripe of mine about FSD, that it’s not well setup for the driver to take over in an emergency, with how exact it is about following distance and the like.

Congratulations!
When I hear (uninformed) people saying “the idea of self driving cars scares me” I smile, pause, and reply “have you seen how *people* drive? Are you not scared?”
We are Truman babies (early Boomers) and still driving fine, but enjoy FSD. And the thought that, if we had a medical emergency, we could just get in the car, press the right scroll wheel, and say “Navigate to Mission Hospital emergency room” is one less thing to worry about.

I’m 72 and currently using FSD 97% of the time. In town, on country roads, on the highway, cross-country. The stress reduction is remarkable, once you learn how it works and trust it.

Yeah that’s why I want to use it before handing it off to them. If it’s reliable enough I’ll probably keep it and buy them another one 🙄 I’m sure the tech will get better with time and maybe unsupervised is on the horizon.

Just for grins I looked at my Tesla spreadsheet I've been keeping since March 2015 and I've spent $2,232 charging in the garage during all those years. I've also added 20% for charging inefficiency in that calculation.
Welcome to the Tesla family.

I also have been trying to get my parents (80s) to get FSD, but the only area which I hesitate is that one really has to have some grounding in technology. Some simple tech navigation which we take for granted is complex and confusing for many 80 year olds. (Have you ever tried to be tech support for older people? It's not easy.)

Got my quicksilver today, FSD drove me home 35 miles away. Good thing it is expensive I can see how easy it is to become complacent. I will definitely get it for trips. I got the premium connectivity as it has a few features that are worth the small expense to me. I feel kinda bad supporting a Fascist, but I am getting over it.

I read that FSD hardware 5 is coming in the next year or two and that's what's needed for unsupervised FSD. I guess that's what's going to be in the new cybercabs coming soon as well. Hopefully I'll be able to actually get computer work done while my car is taking me to the destination 😀

And now they’ve removed the lane centering adaptive cruise control in lieu of a subscription for FSD it’ll confuse more people. Tesla could have relabeled “autopilot” as enhanced cruise control and kept it but ego (not calling it autopilot) and greed for subscribers won out.

Hey, that’s my wife and me!🤪 But our delivery person took over 2 hours with us and while I remember little and my wife almost none, I don’t think it matters. He did a fabulous job period and especially so with navigation. He put in home. He set work to the grocery. He put in all our kids. He put in all our other shopping, destinations. The menus are too much but I don’t see us needing them much again. Why it can park at the grocery and Costco without help but not get in our garage is a mystery but we did a week’s driving yesterday and it was so much fun and felt so safe. That Y and especially FSD were made just for us. After her personal 1 hour 100% FSD test drive, on vacation of all things, my normally very reluctant wife insisted she needed it. Your parents will love it and be so much safer!

FSD on HW4 is soooo good now. I seriously never drive unless it’s choosing a parking spot.

I've been on the FSD journey since 2018 with a Model 3 then and now a HW4 Model Y. Quite an improvement. Also in MN and I even let it FSD during the snow storm we had Wednesday. Ironically to the DMV for my driver's license renewal. Drove perfectly. Properly slowed down for the road conditions. Slowed early for stops. Pulled over for an emergency vehicle approaching from behind, and in another case waited to enter a round about that had a different emergency vehicle approaching from the left. (they were responding to the many accidents). Only complaint is the auto wipers still are a pain and had to hit the manual button several times.

Get a tesla and take them with you. Tesla will let you take one for 24 hours. They also rent them for up to 7 days for $65 a day. Included fsd and super charging. They wii be utterly amazed. Ask grok to take you on a tour. Ghost hunting or what ever.

Ai5 is almost two years off. Ai6 will follow shortly after. The one about Chasing technology, it will either save you money because you never pull the trigger, or alot if you upgrade every year or week. Ai4 still has life and the fsd is really good.

Got my dad on it, he has vision problems and it expanded his freedom ten fold! That experience was enough to convince my grandma to get a Y as well. So happy to have a technology that is actually granting more freedoms to our elderly population.
Both of them used to go out of their way to take less congested backroads, jeopardizing their safety due to a lack of confidence. And now they just put in their destination and start FSD in the driveway, it parks for them and they get out. Thrilled by what this enables, can’t wait to see what more comes from it.

73 and using FSD 93%. I’m a techie so that was never an issue. It really is a blessing for night driving with older eyes. But really better in every way than most human drivers. Still a few quirks and navigation issues but definitely worth it for older drivers.

Currently a 79 year old Mach-e owner here. I love my Mach-e, but I plan to replace it with a MY once Hardware 5 is available because Ford's Blue Cruise cannot drive me around town on my daily outings. In my family, all members of the previous generation (parents, aunts, uncles) had to quit driving before age 85 due to age-related issues, so I figure I will be in that same boat in a few more years. I hope FSD can extend my independence and keep this Boomer out of the old folks home for another 5-10 years.

Also already did that in day 2, and still nothing. So I just kept using FSD on 13.2.9 for now which works well actually, I just want to try sloth mode and maybe it'll park better when parking lines are yellow because right now, it feels like it does not see yellow parking lines.
