Tips?

Have a friend coming to see my Y tomorrow. He thinks he wants one. What are some of your most important tips you would share to someone new to Tesla?

Get a level 2 charger. Makes it just about a perfect car.

Show him FSD (if you have it) :) Else, what other people say, if you CAN charge at home, charge at home. While I've had tesla's since 2018 at an apartment, it's definitely daunting to most people.

Make sure he drives it on the same kind of route he will use it. The ride quality over potholes and bumps is poor, and if he is considering a used Y, it is close to unacceptable.

Even if one has to charge using a 120 volt plug you can expect about 5 miles every hour so 12 hours could provide approximately 60 miles over night.

Very good point, I have a 2026 Juniper, and on v14 it actually avoids most potholes and slows for speed bumps (it's not perfect of course, but significantly better than my wife's 2022 Y with v13).

Tell them to get a used one since new ones don't have autopilot anymore.

I would show him the things that could use improvement so he's well informed and will have no surprises. Depending on the year, possible examples include wipers, road noise ride quality, etc. I would have appreciated that.

Definitely use Grok to set your route and ask questions about the car. A good one to ask, is do Tesla's have less moving parts, etc.

This. That's the first thing I tell people is "I'm tired of maintaining ICE vehicles. My time is worth it".

Top questions I get from onlookers are what's the range and where can I charge it?
