Model Y tire recommendations

MindOnAWalk | 2026-02-18 18:35 | 41 views

My Tesla Model Y just about hits 55k miles. I have the OEM Continental ProContact RX 255. I believe it’s time for tire replacement. I have Cotsco membership and I am looking to explore that, I also see on the Tesla is offering the OEM for $315 per tire. What are your recommendations. Should I go Tesla, Cotsco or any other third party? Edit: I should add, I live in California. It doesn’t snow and it barely rains.

Walmart also has good prices if you have one nearby

KansasKing107 2026-02-18 18:47

You have to look around. Costco pricing isn’t always good and is almost always beat by Discount tire.

minnesnowta 2026-02-18 18:51

If you live somewhere where it snows, I’ve heard nothing but good things about Michelin CrossClimate2’s. I have a set of winter wheels/tires and summer ones (MYP w/ the stock uberturbines) and will likely get the OEM Michelin all-seasons this summer to replace the stock Pirelli P-Zeros that came on our MYP.

fredenocs 2026-02-18 18:57

Radar brand. Only on tire rack. So good I put them on my M3 as well.

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 19:00

Do they offer alignment as well as Warranty?

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 19:02

Unfortunately I don’t have any close to where I live. I think I’ve got only American’s Tire

fredenocs 2026-02-18 19:02

You ship the tires to whatever shop you want.

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 19:05

I live in California. I heard the Pirelli is no good. Maybe I’ll go with the Michelin. But I’ve got to see where I can get the best deal since I’m replacing all 4 tires

KansasKing107 2026-02-18 19:07

Costco only supports manufacturer warranties is like everyone else’s as far as I know. Elsewhere would charge for alignment but doesn’t Costco also charge for an alignment?

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 19:07

Oh I didn’t know that. I might have to check them out. Thanks for the recommendation.

fredenocs 2026-02-18 19:09

They perform differently on bad roads. It’s not so harsh feel when driving. I just had brother in law drop by and took him for a ride and he was sold on them as well. And once you see the price you’ll be surprised compared by others.

gilbertesc 2026-02-18 19:10

Hankook Ion Evo AS if you’re in the $300 range

Positive_League_5534 2026-02-18 19:25

Costco gives: * Includes installation at no charge¹ INCLUDED * 5-year Road Hazard Warranty² INCLUDED * Rotation INCLUDED * Balancing INCLUDED * Inflation Check INCLUDED * Flat Repairs INCLUDED * Nitrogen Tire Inflation INCLUDED

Discount / America’s tire. Continental extreme contact dws06+ or continental control contact sport SRS+. I’m happy with the SRS+, but Reddit and other forum reviews seem even more enthusiastic about dws06+.

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 19:36

lol. I have it on chill most of the time and my commute is about 95% highway driving. So I suppose less stop or go traffic. I just cruze most of the time.

TheBigAndy 2026-02-18 19:51

I am about there on mine. I was very concerned with time wear before I bought the car based on what I was reading here, but I really think that it's people who've never owned a high torque vehicle and just drive more aggressively.

happyguy121 2026-02-18 19:56

Vredestein Quatrac Pro would be a slightly cheaper alternative to CrossClimate, with a good comfort if that’s what you’re looking for.

EasilyAmused1152 2026-02-18 20:03

I second this. I've got about 30K on my set and similar range to the original tires, slightly better ride, better traction in wet/snow and a little quieter. I'm estimating I'll get at least another 10 - 15k out is these, so better tread life for me at least than originals. 2023 Model Y

hmasta88 2026-02-18 20:04

Hello fellow OEM'er. I'm at approx 53k with my MY 2023 AWD LR. I drive 1k a week... yeah, it sucks. Eff you RTO! Mostly highway. Average 80+ mph. I use Standard driving since people around here are crazy (I-95 Virginia/ NoVA). I'm down to 4/32's. I'm thinking OEMs or Hankook Ion. Still deciding final based on price. I looked at Tesla, Costco, and Discount Tire. Tesla is a hard nope. Costco would be nice if they did alignment. Sticking with Discount Tire. Also, why tf are Hankooks so darn expensive at 350? OEMs are sub 300.

TobysGrundlee 2026-02-18 20:07

3rd?! Holy shit. You must have a lead foot. My first set made it to 40k and I'm never in Chill Mode.

Minnemize 2026-02-18 20:11

Have you done through a set of these before? If you have, how many miles did they last?

fredenocs 2026-02-18 20:12

I haven’t. But since I picked up a new hobby I’m driving lots more. And through more bad roads. But for the price can’t beat it.

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 20:22

Thanks for the info. Based on the recommendations so far I am exploring Cotsco, American Tires and Tire Rack. Well I’m guessing that’s going to be the trade off. Cotsco road hazard (rotation and balancing) included in the price vs Discount tire alignment offering BTW driving 1k a week is crazy work!!!

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 20:25

Yes, I have a long range. I do mostly highway driving. Comfort is definitely a priority for me.

billbr0baggins 2026-02-18 20:27

Falken Azenis, a little research has these outperforming far more expensive tires. I've run them on a M3P for a few years and they've been great. Will get them for my MY when it's necessary

techperson1234 2026-02-18 20:29

I replaced by P zeros with these when I needed my first change. Significantly easier ride and same great acceleration (on the performance model) Highly recommend

bob_marley98 2026-02-18 20:36

Yea, the Great Value 100EV^^^TM is a very good tire ^^^/s

kgorczyn 2026-02-18 20:42

Whatever you do, for that climate, DO NOT get Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 tires. They will decimate your range, they don't look like they fit right (on 19in Gemini Wheels at least,) and they are pricey. Drive OK but no better than the Conti's. I'm on my 3rd Model Y and most happy with the Hankook iON EVO AS. My wh/mi went from 250s to 290s over the course of 5k miles since getting the Michelins. Same Commute. Same Driving. Thats almost 20% range hit. Couple that with battery degradation (I have 2022 MY LR) and it really becomes measurable.

808_GhostRider 2026-02-18 20:43

Michilin e primacy is the only non oem costco tire i’d get

Epicdurr2020 2026-02-18 20:46

2nd this. These really the only viable choices if you are willing out pirelli. Cross climate too if you're more worried about snow. Vredestein for all the other reasons.

PrummurP 2026-02-18 21:04

When you guys say you’re on OEM tires - are you saying you’re still on your original set that came with the car or you’ve bought a new set of OEMs? Getting over 50k miles on a single set of tires would be impressive and I’d want the how to guide 😂

[deleted] 2026-02-18 21:12

[deleted]

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 21:50

😀Yes, original set. I think you can only achieve this on chill mode, and if you mostly do highway driving.

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 21:53

Just reviewed Hankooks. It’s specifications are really good but expensive. I am now looking at Bridgestone Turanza EV. American Tires are currently offing $80 off on some select tires

PrummurP 2026-02-18 22:01

🤯and here I thought I was doing great on my originals at 31k 😂. You’re an inspiration!

Kooch702 2026-02-18 22:05

I put the dws06+ on a different high power car and they were excellent. What I will be looking at first when I need to replace tires

hmasta88 2026-02-18 22:08

I heard mixed reviews with the Turanza. OEMs aka (Continentals) last 50k+, I'll most likely stick with them. Ions seem to be ok in wet conditions vs. Conti's.

LazicusMaximus 2026-02-18 22:29

I put these on my MY. Replaced originals at about 50k and the hankook have been fantastic

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 22:30

😂

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 22:32

Cotsco currently have this but I haven’t seen enough review on those

Sufficient_Ad3790 2026-02-18 22:33

If you got 55k with these tires, go with the same replacements

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 22:34

I have got great recommendations so far. I have looked up a few and the two that maybe fits my need and climate conditions for far are the Hankook iON EVO AS and the OEM Continental.

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 22:36

Yea, that would make sense, I was just looking to see if there are better recommendations. I think the other brand strongly recommended is the Hankook iON

MindOnAWalk 2026-02-18 22:38

Don’t sweat it, I think you are doing better than most at 31k

Smart_Ad_4872 2026-02-18 22:43

I just put the Michelin E Primacy’s on and I love them. I’m in CT and drove them in snow the very first day and they were great! Obviously you said no snow where you are but overall happy so far. No difference in noise or range to speak of in the first month

808_GhostRider 2026-02-18 23:01

Yea it’s new so not much out there but it’s essentially their primacy tire with foam in it to keep it quiet

idk012 2026-02-18 23:14

They don't do alignment, I think like $150 for lifetime alignment at a local franchise.

idk012 2026-02-18 23:14

$315 per is a good deal

cheapdvds 2026-02-18 23:18

If you don't have performance, you can easily get 50-60k on the crossclimate 2. Some people even reported 70k.

PrummurP 2026-02-18 23:19

I’ll have to take a look at those when it’s time for a new set. Thanks!

PrummurP 2026-02-18 23:19

Thanks! Good to hear haha

jmkreno 2026-02-18 23:43

I got a set of ATTURO AZ810s at Discount Tire over the summer for our MYLR with boost. Have about 8k on them and 1 rotation and look like brand new still. 3Peak M&S rated and we've had a lot of snow here (northern Nevada/Reno) in the last week and traction has been great. We had a wet fall and traction on wet roads seemed to be as good, if not better, than the OEMs. Summer traction felt good as well. Noise is marginally more than the stock tires, but nothing worth paying more for. Been VERY happy with these. Dicscount price matched to SimpleTire at the time who was running an amazing sale price and got them installed out the door for under $600 for 4. Discount also offers lifetime rotation and road hazard. Not as good a price as I had before, but still a great deal for good overall performance tires. Here are 20s: [Atturo AZ810 All Weather 255/40R20 Passenger Tires Online | SimpleTire](https://simpletire.com/brands/atturo-tires/az810#itemId=252221&mpn=52026&pageSource=PLP&region=r99&tireSize=255-40rr20&userRegion=99)

MNuttster 2026-02-18 23:44

OEM Pirelli’s on my MYAWD barely went 30k in Illinois with Chill on permanently…so I went CrossClimates and just pray I could get 40k-50k would be beyond my wildest dreams

Gasser11432 2026-02-18 23:56

2023 MYLR here. Came with Pirelli Scorpion MS. Ride and noise were bad. I switched to Pirelli Scorpion AS plus 3 and upsized the sidewall to 255/50 R19. The slight improvement in ride was NOT worth the cost/trouble. Americas Tire was great to deal with, but in my area they do not have alignment service. I note that my late year 2023 LR was supposed to have the comfort suspension. It stinks. OK on highway but on the cratered roads in Los Angeles, it is misery. Lease is up in 6 months and I will either turn it back in or, depending on Tesla’s inclination to sell, (at a reasonable price) buy it and update suspension to the Juniper. The Scorpion AS plus 3 have good traction and reasonable mileage, especially at the price point, but don’t cure the deficiencies of the suspension.

ConfidentFlorida 2026-02-18 23:56

What’s wrong with the cheaper options Tesla offers? I can’t see what makes them worse.

idk012 2026-02-19 00:23

I work near Commerce with tons of construction and a recent nail cost me like $1400 to replace all the tires (to match the thread)

TheCrashConrad 2026-02-19 00:35

Had Continental DSW on a previous car and they were the first tire I looked at for my '23 MYLR after the stock ProContacts ran low on tread. They've been a great tire to date.

healimon 2026-02-19 00:40

What brand made it to 40k?

Traditional-Fuel-428 2026-02-19 00:40

Whatever tire you choose, have America’s tire price match and install. They beat Costco on service/appointment availability any day. The certificates are a life saver.

look_at_my_cucumber 2026-02-19 00:42

Michelin Pilot Sport 4s or Michelin Pilot 4 All Season. Doesn't last long but gotta have the grip to floor it

kroepuk 2026-02-19 01:00

Michelin E primacy since the Hankook ion is so much more expensive in Orange County. I was able to get those at America's tire around $280 each. Definetly quieter and softer than the original conti Rx. It even has better wh average, based on the trip computer.

Saloncinx 2026-02-19 01:02

Assuming you’re in the US go to Discount tire / America’s tire. Costco and Sam’s Club are a pain for warranty and honestly their pricing isn’t always the best.

kroepuk 2026-02-19 01:02

II got to 53k on the original set from 2020 Model Y.

_twentytwo_22 2026-02-19 01:05

I have Pirelli P7 All Season Plus 3's with about 56k miles going strong in the NE. I haven't heard of anyone else using them but they are better than my OG Continentals. I used Simpletire (similar to Tire Rack) to order the tires and had them sent to a local Firestone to install.

_twentytwo_22 2026-02-19 01:07

I made it 42k with my first set, and still rocking the second at 56k.

cantsitstillohmy 2026-02-19 01:13

Have had these tires for 8k miles now and they are hands down the quietest tires I've ever seen on a MY. If you care about that kind of thing.

Jared_Sparks 2026-02-19 01:52

I've got an over 50,000 miles on my Michelin Cross Climate tires. They are great in snow and rain but a little loud. However, I always crank the tunes so I really don't care.

Initial-Mortgage-791 2026-02-19 01:57

Just got the Kumho TA91 at Walmart: https://www.walmart.com/ip/17197470898?sid=93e21260-cbec-4354-b450-cada888c2ed0 Can’t beat the price. These are Tesla OEM tires with the foam. Mine are marked T2.

mashirabbit 2026-02-19 03:51

I got my tires from Fixgo for $700 installed on 4 Kumho [fixgo](https://www.fixgo.com/detail/16641)

kearheng 2026-02-19 04:20

I live in Southeast Asia, so no snow for me. Hankook isn't available, so I'm planning to use Michelin e.primacy.

TravelfF 2026-02-19 04:54

Those tires are expensive. $1,700 a set installed!

wasabicoated 2026-02-19 04:58

Michelin Cross Climate 2

Apprehensive_Dare543 2026-02-19 05:50

Did the same - ordered 4 Hankook tires at Firestone for $1180 then paid $150 for lifetime alignment.

RioRozayy 2026-02-19 06:14

Toyo Proxy’s hands down. High-performance all season tires. Also not too expensive. I have 20s on mine.

IgEforeverything 2026-02-19 09:03

I have the pilot a/s 4 too and agree with everything you said. Plus alot of road noise

tantricengineer 2026-02-19 13:56

I use chill mode all the time and don’t lead food the car. Also hitting 40k on the original set of tires and a tech said they can go another 5-10 depending on my comfort level.

TobysGrundlee 2026-02-19 17:31

The OEMs from 2023. I don't remember what they were.

tarheel5669 2026-02-19 22:07

It’s strange in reading the different reviews, people are commenting worse performance with these in wet and especially on snow. While the snow is not a common situation for where I’m at, is it something that you’ve had some experience with with your car and these tires?

EasilyAmused1152 2026-02-19 22:33

The Hankooks are better in the snow than the original tires. Neither are amazing, but I live in Minnesota so I've been in a lot of snow with these. The biggest thing for me is to put the car in Off Road assist mode which was a game changer.

tarheel5669 2026-02-19 23:27

I’ll trust your experience (coming from South Carolina 😂). Think you sold me on trying for my next set.

EasilyAmused1152 2026-02-20 00:51

Good luck.

Mmmmarkus 2026-02-20 04:29

I had OEM Summer Pirelli P Zeros on my Y Performance, I just replaced them with Goodyear Electric Drive 2s All Seasons and couldn’t be happier. I bought these based on my research against the Hankooks at Americas/Discount Tire (name is different depending on US location) and got their insurance certificates. The Goodyear Electric Drive 2s are great for performance steering still compared to the Pirellis, plus a major comfort upgrade for a Y Performance on 21 Uberturbines, and they are considerably quieter than the Pirellis they are more of a grand touring EV focused tire vs a non EV super sport summer tire. Check out this video comparing popular EV tire picks for teslas from Tire Rack on YouTube, hope it helps you decide: https://youtu.be/rLjsNpNTlzM?si=2kEJDwuA0w8-CduQ

Da_WooDr 2026-02-20 15:32

What do you mean by local franchise. Genuine question. I’m in need of an alignment cause my tires have been my main maintenance cost and pot hole may have cause my alignment

iengravestuff 2026-02-20 17:02

best tire for the money for snow is the crossclimate 2 ; 45k tread life compared to 30k

dpkant 2026-02-20 23:51

I am using laufen as fit as.. they are subsidary of hankook.. it cost me 105$ per tire.. i have put around 3k miles so far. Cost me less than 600 including installation at Americas tire.. I am also in CA.. Performance wise they are doing just fine as i always drive in chill mode. A little road noise goes unnoticable while on listening music.. i am ok even if they last 25k miles.. which i think they will easily. After using laufenn, i am happy..

idk012 2026-02-21 02:49

Goodyear or another local tire store.

Forsaken_Big7706 2026-02-21 13:57

We got 80k miles on our oem Continentals (2023 MYLR). Probably could have gone another 10-15k miles, but decided to swap them out before winter (Philadelphia). We were very happy with the Continentals so decided to stick with them. Cheapest price was at Walmart ($267/ea) installed. Road Hazard was another $10/ea or free with Walmart+ membership, which was on sale for $49. Wasn't sure if the Walmart tire would be identical to the oem ones since the description wasn't clear, but they are the exact same tire as what came on the car (T2 version).
