Price for wheels/tires

barkwoofbork | 2026-02-18 12:18 | 15 views

I have a MYP but looking to replace the wheels with 19 inch, prefer a softer ride. I found a guy on Facebook selling a set Of 4 Tesla Model Y 2020-2024 OEM 19" Wheels/Rims Gemini W/Pirelli Tires W/TPMS For $1,200 including balancing and installation. Is this a good price?

I personally don't think so. I went aftermarket so my car looks better, and better range with the lighter wheels. The Gemini wheels weigh a ton.

Which did you get? Did you switch away from 21" too?

Solid price if the tires have a lot of life left. I would not say it’s a “deal” tho. Pretty popular “downgrade”. You may want to look at the wheels without the covers, they can be scratched up pretty badly from OEM covers.

Atomic wheels AW21 19X8.5 35MM offset. The tires I got are Kuhmos. These wheels are definitely on the spendy side. There are much cheaper aftermarket wheel options out there. Just get with the manufacturer if the wheels will handle tesla weight and if they will clear the brakes. Atomic makes sure that their wheels work with Teslas. You could buy a whole aftermarket wheel and tire package for $2000 though. Much better than heavy OEM wheels and used tires, and only $800 more. Plus your car would be a little different looking than the millions of other teslas out there.

any recommendations for a $2000 set? And does that include installation? Thx 😊

I got my own brand new setup on TireRack for like $1800 I got some cool looking 19" Borbet Type Y wheels and Michelin CrossClimates(I live where its snowy 3-4 months of the year) and TireRack ships them to you with the TPMS sensors installed and tires balanced. I was able to sell my stock Uberturbines with a lot of tread life for $1600 on Facebook marketplace.

cool.. did you know anything about the brand you were buying? Or just picked a nice looking one and hoped for the best? I don't know how to choose.

I did some general research, like I saw that Borbet is a German company that makes many OEM wheels for BMW/Mercedes/Ford/a ton of brands and some people say they even make some of the OEM Tesla wheels(not sure which ones). Anything TireRack sells is generally a good quality product and if you have an issue they will work with you. Like I had them shipped to a tire place that didn't have "pucks" for a Tesla, so I just took them home and did it myself. I let TireRack know that the tire place couldn't work on Teslas because they don't have the pucks and they gave me like $50 back and apologized. One thing that I'll say is that the more spokes a wheel has the more pain in the ass it is to clean which I factored in. Especially with large brakes the can get covered in brake dust(less of an issue on a Tesla with regen braking).

I mean, I love the setup I bought. $900 for the wheels, $144 for the TPMS sensors, and I think another $800 for the tires iirc. Discount tire charges around $150 for mount and balance. Not only that but I sold my factory wheels and tires for $500 a couple days later, so that helped pay for it.

Atomic Wheels AW21. 19X8.5 35mm offset. Tires are 255/45/19 Kuhmo Solus Majesty TA91. This is exactly what I bought. My speedometer is still correct. Tires protect the wheels better than factory. And super light weight. I've seen approximately 10% increase in range. It's hard to tell this time of year though since I run the heater so much.

Those borbets are good looking affordable wheels!

ghdana 2026-02-18 16:51

Yeah, happy with the gloss black because I was able to just buy a glass black touch up paint pen for whenever my wife curbs them and you can't tell lmao!

SecretGate4346 2026-02-18 16:53

Have any pics of them on your model Y?

Upgrade to juniper suspension and it will be much better

>prefer a softer ride. A new set of wheels and tires is not the right solution for that. You'll have to double check that those smaller wheels will clear the brakes. In general. Not the right solution for what you're looking for.

> I've seen approximately 10-20% increase in range Not a chance in hell. Like, that's patently absurd. And I say that as an owner of an MYLR with 19x8.5 AW21's - https://i.imgur.com/TwkUOFR.jpeg

BetterGoogleit17 2026-02-18 22:47

I have a performance. The rear stock tires on a performance are 275s. Also, the Uberturbines weigh way more than even the stock MYLR Gemini wheels. So no. It isn't absurd. You do know that the performance and long range have the same battery capacity? Yet the performance range is about 10% worse from the factory? Why do you suppose that is?

quentech 2026-02-18 23:14

> the Uberturbines weigh way more than even the stock MYLR Gemini wheels And I had the 20" Inductions - which are half way between the weight of the AW21's and the Uberturbines. You may be seeing some improved range from the change of 275 to 255 but the weight of those wheels is no way in hell improving range by 10% nevermind 20% (absolutely absurd). Not unless you've completely turned off regenerative braking and floor it from every stop while driving exclusively in neighborhoods with a stop sign on every other corner. EVs barely flinch at extra weight. Yes, rotating weight is a bit different, but significantly offset by braking recovery. And the aero is **far** worse on the open spoke designs (and on your wider performance wheels). > Yet the performance range is about 10% worse from the factory? Why do you suppose that is? Aerodynamics, mostly. Now tell us, what's the range difference? 5%? But sure buddy, wheel weight drops it 20% mkay.

Used tires for $1200 not worth it. Also hate to be a Debby downer but pirellis aren’t either. Short tread life and premature wear Also not a huge difference between 19s and 20s but 20s look aesthetically better
