2 bike rack without tow hitch

I've researched this a bit, and have decided that I'm just not comfortable with regards to safety unless it's a tow hitch bike rack. I can fit my road bike inside the model Y if I fold both rear seats down. It might be possible to get a bike in the trunk area by taking the wheels off, but I haven't tried this. It sucks that the tow hitch is like $1,400, but I think I will end up having to do that.
