How did I do

[deleted] | 2026-02-17 06:12 | 84 views

I had been wanting one for a while and finally came across one that somewhat made sense to trade into too. It was hard to let go of a Toyota for sure. The miles are my main worry on the MY. It’s a MYLR with acceleration boost. Sadly no FSD. Any insight and tips is much appreciated.

wtf are some of those fees? Dealerships really love to screw their customers. “Emission inspection fee”… lol?

WhyBee92 2026-02-17 06:19

I have the same car but at 36k miles and got appraised at $23k, this could’ve been lower or mine should’ve been higher

FoxBearBear 2026-02-17 06:20

$500 for a carfax report ?!?

madman6000 2026-02-17 06:21

Deputy

FoxBearBear 2026-02-17 06:22

When did you buy your RAV4?

[deleted] 2026-02-17 06:24

1 year and 4 months ago roughly

[deleted] 2026-02-17 06:25

Yeah it’s insane. This was after getting other fees removed.

MattNis11 2026-02-17 06:25

All depends on getting a good price for the trade in and looks like it’s not a great price

c4koth 2026-02-17 06:26

If you’re happy driving it, don’t look back. Just enjoy it.

IceOnFire77 2026-02-17 06:32

Wow, they really screw you with all those fees. I would have requested to take them off. They will definitely make money off your trade-in.

dnguyen823 2026-02-17 06:43

Idk man. Coulda gotten a 2023-2024 for 30k with less miles and hw4

SE_MI_CT 2026-02-17 06:43

Have him under bluebook and then whacked another $1500 off in fees. Fucking dealerships.

nukegod1990 2026-02-17 07:03

Well you got taken to the cleaners with that trade in value for starters.

Dave_Marsh 2026-02-17 07:13

I traded in my 2021 Model 3 with fully paid FSD and 22,000 miles for $23,400.

spacecadet610 2026-02-17 07:13

I have a 2021 model Y AWD (41750 miles) which i will be soon upgrading. Tesla is offering me $20400, Carmax around the same. Carvana offering is $23700

Kind-Teach-1549 2026-02-17 08:00

Beware. 2021 has battery issues. A lot of ppl reported it on reddit.

pinchy74 2026-02-17 08:37

When it comes to all those fees, I would have been like Neo in the Matrix. "How about I give you the finger, and you give me my money back?"

Nice-Ad1989 2026-02-17 08:43

Gov fees? lol

llervitas831 2026-02-17 09:05

Did you own the toyota or how much was left to pay off? Thinking of doing the same

DasArtmab 2026-02-17 11:53

How do they even do an Emission Inspection? “Hmm, no tail pipe. Smell anything Bob?”

FoxBearBear 2026-02-17 12:08

It says on the paper that the payoff was $14k

Key_Employee2413 2026-02-17 12:10

Next time just outright ask them for the outdoor price, which is everything that will be on the bill of sale. Then ask them to see all the fees and if they run you around on not giving any of those two out, it is because of the hidden fees they have. When it comes to these buy here pay here / we finance everyone, they will always have these fees. Go a legit dealership with brand reputation and you can call them and the brand out for things like this…but they know they can’t do all that stuff.

wtfredditacct 2026-02-17 12:43

You'll get to whoever is offering $23k, they'll do a hands on appraisal and the actual offer will be the same as everyone else.

K3jai 2026-02-17 12:47

Congrats

chandleya 2026-02-17 12:52

Why’d you post it you already knew you did spectacularly poorly?

chandleya 2026-02-17 12:52

What if they’re not?

CAVU1331 2026-02-17 13:24

Unfortunately, that wasn’t a great trade. You traded a reliable car with less miles for one that will is out of warranty and will be out of battery warranty depending on the state soon. Couple things to look for will be wheel bearings, and pack degradation.

cstuart1046 2026-02-17 13:34

No FSD, yeah I wouldn’t be happy either

Feisty_Crab7052 2026-02-17 13:37

Not a fan of high mileage used EVs. Time will tell.

Ornery-Werewolf-3578 2026-02-17 14:01

Auto nation is the worst try to just cancel the whole transaction.

KRONOS_415 2026-02-17 14:05

The mileage on your Tesla is very high. You legit traded your vehicle for one with 16,000 more miles on it. Yeah, I don’t think you did very well at all here.

ATACMSlover 2026-02-17 14:09

this is SEXY AF

Square-Leg-3520 2026-02-17 14:16

Which trim? And what condition? I’m assuming like new

Aphelion27 2026-02-17 14:24

$500 for a $45 carfax report.

blinkn09 2026-02-17 14:31

Your rav4 would have outlasted the Tesla

kgb2475 2026-02-17 14:42

They made you pay $500 for a Carfax report? The price for 1 report is $45. Dealers buy in bulk and only pay $15 - $20 per report.

EmptyTalesOfTheLoop 2026-02-17 14:45

Customer APPRCIATION

sevargmas 2026-02-17 14:55

This. They traded for a car with *more* miles.

ExtensionMidnight922 2026-02-17 14:55

Honestly would have kept the Rav4

ObjectLow2856 2026-02-17 15:41

It was a good move, u cut your car debt by $20k. Only thing I don’t like about autonation used is they don’t negotiate, they say they base their prices off what the local area is selling similar cars for but to that I say, the car dealerships advertised price is nearly never the best price. I think you could have gotten that for $18k/$19k if you called around. Trade in for that was probably $16k/$17k.

Significant_Jury6430 2026-02-17 15:48

What the fuck is “customer apprciation”?😭

AtlantaP3D 2026-02-17 16:18

Our prior 2021 LR DM MY had 53k miles and was never in for service. Friend had the same with 80k miles and the same, never was in for any issues. Check lower control arm bolts.

MurkyTrainer7953 2026-02-17 16:41

Trading a 5 year old RAV4 for a 5 year old EV, with more mileage and punching close to 100k miles. Yep. I guess what’s important is you’re happy.

BikebutnotBeast 2026-02-17 16:48

Forget that. The fact they considered buying a pre-comfort suspension model is the biggest mistake.

markn6262 2026-02-17 16:48

Doesn't have battery issues no more than the Rav. Just routine replacement every 3 yrs. Thats the least of OP's concern.

BikebutnotBeast 2026-02-17 16:49

Not just that. Control arm bushings/breaking too.

BikebutnotBeast 2026-02-17 16:49

No this is true. The 2021s had all sorts of problems.

markn6262 2026-02-17 16:49

Wheel bearings? Thats one I haven't heard of. You mean suspension arm bushing?

Kind-Teach-1549 2026-02-17 16:54

I was talking about HV battery.

CAVU1331 2026-02-17 17:24

That as well. But wheel bearings are starting to fail more regularly around that many miles.

kumarbi_knasher 2026-02-17 17:25

Tell me this is BS just to get us raging over how stupid this is.

c4koth 2026-02-17 17:59

They seem happy about it, but they wanted to know how their deal was. My advice is to not look anymore for better deals, just drive and enjoy the car.

chandleya 2026-02-17 18:08

Learning from massive mistakes is the human experience in a nutshell

icy1007 2026-02-17 18:25

I just saw that… wtf is that?! “We’re going to charge you $250 because we appreciate you.” 😂

icy1007 2026-02-17 18:31

VIT

markn6262 2026-02-17 19:03

Ahhh HV. Perhaps anecdotally but statistically its a rather insignificant difference from '22 MY or other '21 models. Wouldn't overly concern me.

markn6262 2026-02-17 19:10

Where are you hearing this? I stay close to these kinds of reports but this is new to me. My wife has a '21, myself a '22. Just the '21? Imagine it would have to be looked at by mo/yr not just year given how Tesla production changes more so quarterly than annually.

Aggie90dc 2026-02-17 19:10

He actually received $250 for whatever “custom appreciation” is. Note the + symbol in the middle.

CAVU1331 2026-02-17 19:41

The Tesla service center.

markn6262 2026-02-17 20:23

Rpeputable source, they would know. AI supports this although thru 3rd party sources, not Tesla officially as expected. GTK, thanks.

Forsaken_Opening_835 2026-02-17 20:36

I would recommend to buy directly from Tesla.

Significant_Jury6430 2026-02-17 20:37

I definitely missed the symbols

icy1007 2026-02-17 21:18

The left side + is adding to the price, but I think you’re right that the right side + would be adding to the trade-in value.

nist7 2026-02-17 22:27

Yeah. Dude also got a 2021 model Y...which I think is the year that has the highest battery failure iirc.....

I_just_made 2026-02-17 23:01

Am I missing something? How did they cut their car debt by $20k? It looks like they still owed $14k on their car. The final balance says they owe $17k. That isn’t reducing the debt, that is an increase.

Brave_Wishbone_2436 2026-02-17 23:25

HW3....not good.

Brave_Wishbone_2436 2026-02-17 23:26

Oh you would just request no fees? Lmao as you wish your majesty

IceOnFire77 2026-02-17 23:32

I negotiate all my deals in writing even before I set foot at the dealership. That includes vehicle pricing and trade in. I also get reapproved for a loan with my bank so I am in out of the dealership. A little research can go a long way to save a lot of $$. But don’t take my word for it.

SnooBeans1223 2026-02-18 00:07

Did u actually do any research?

Far_Machine_4458 2026-02-18 00:39

Wow. I just read through these comments and no wonder the guy deleted his reddit profile. What a bunch of a-holes. I joined this sub because I just got a high mileage '21 MY that I'm super excited about and I was looking forward to sharing and learning. No way am I doing that now.

Ambitious-Plan-976 2026-02-18 01:27

=Very Important Tax.

DarknessMage 2026-02-18 02:34

My 2020 MYLR was doing good until I had to replace both upper and lower control arms

holdencrypfield 2026-02-18 03:58

Yes you literally just tell them, “I know for a fact all these fees are optional according to the internet and my research. Take them off and come back to me with a real deal” Dealer took them off after he “talked to his manager” And that was that.

DameLasNalgas 2026-02-18 04:05

Dude got banned or deleted his account lol

Ok_Movie7982 2026-02-18 05:14

Sheesh 85k miles?!

AtlantaP3D 2026-02-18 09:29

How many miles?

Robocup1 2026-02-18 10:06

Also, 2021 Rav 4 is a good vehicle. If it was in good condition, should have kept it.

Intelligent_Rub7502 2026-02-18 20:49

That’s why I hate dealers. They make up fees and they remove them to make the customer feel better.

Perryfl 2026-02-19 12:44

idk i did a carvana, we had a rip in the seat amd they still just took it onquestions asked after a quick test drive around the parking lot lol

Perryfl 2026-02-19 12:48

not true at all... toyota quality has degraded terribly in tthe last 10 years. I build software for fixed ops (service) we track this across throusands of different dealers, toyotas are no linger the mr reliables they use to be

neo_deals 2026-02-19 18:51

What's the trade pay off 14k?

Solid-Assistance1427 2026-02-20 04:56

Enjoy your car!
