2026 MY Juniper was involved in an accident. Repairs were just shy of $7k. What would be a reasonable number to ask for diminished value?
I went though this few months back for non Tesla car. Generally, it’s a negotiation and you want to show what cost of your car is if you sell it today vs if you sell it with one accident on the record. If you can get quotes from caravana/carmax that helps a lot. Start with big number, use perplexity/chatgpt to search around the web and make you a report. Good luck!

Diminished value is tricky. I ended up hiring an appraiser todo a DV report for around $350 or so. Before I got the report insurance said “DV isn’t a thing”, got the report saying about $7,500 in DV, insurance then said they were going to get their own report, their report said $1,500 in DV. Both reports were authored by appraisers with similar credentials/experience. Was able to get insurance to split the difference on the reports.
DV is technically based on the value of your car immediately after repairs are completed vs the value of a non-accident car (with similar trim/milage/etc) at that same point in time. Many insurance companies won’t give current Carvana/carmax/etc estimates weight. You really need auction/retails sales history from the day after repairs were made to have a strong case.

Have chat gpt / Gemini/ grok walk you through the process I have successfully gotten diminishes value 10k and 15k on two different model 3s. Its not 7k of damage limits your recoverable, but rather how much a tesla with a collision reduces in value. Get 5 quotes And argue alot Worst case sue the other drive and force your insurance to make you whole on the property damage side ( california ) Really depends on state and local laws
