$305 for fixing 5 month/ 3k mile old 2025MY seat rattle ??

itzabhinavs | 2026-02-16 23:39 | 17 views

As mentioned, 2026 MY is 5 months old and was expecting it will be covered under warranty. The service person even said if a part needs replacement it will be covered under warranty but if it’s just adjustments it will be charged. Going in to pick up the car tomorrow. What should I do here? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like they waived the parts but not the labor. It probably is a billing error, as it seems to be a defect. Ask in the app about the charge. If that fails, bring it up at the service center.

artivh 2026-02-16 23:43

Wtf, they charged you? Did you ever complain prior when you got it, or it started happening after the first year. There should be no charge for their shoddy workmanship.

RaspberryDelicious 2026-02-16 23:44

Hmmm. I’d definitely argue this. I’ve never been charged for any rattles/noises they’ve fixed over the years in both of my Model Ys (though I’m close to out of warranty on one of them sadly)

Whit3boy316 2026-02-16 23:44

Don’t sound right. I had mine work odd in the seat and it was covered

artivh 2026-02-16 23:45

I have my own water ingress issue that is like the 4th time I am going in and they still have not fully fixed it. If they mentioned any fee I would be super pissed.

sweetgodivagirl 2026-02-16 23:50

I had a rattle and it didn’t need a new part. They fixed it for free.

Aggravating_Ad7720 2026-02-16 23:58

Same issue happened to me. Went in for a non rattle repair under warranty. They found issue / defect not cause by the users and tried to charge me. I think tesla will loss a lot of customers if they keep trying to charge for warranty repairs

Tricky-Psychology11 2026-02-16 23:58

I am also having rattle noise in the rear seat, did you have to pay for them to reproduce the noise?

Garrettstoffel 2026-02-17 00:02

out of curiosity, is it a rattle or just a click? my wife's 2025 model 3 has developed a click that only occurs under moderate acceleration and deceleration.

Appropriate_Wafer_38 2026-02-17 00:15

Should be covered by warranty no?

EricAndersonL 2026-02-17 00:20

You can say this should be covered under warranty and they waive it. Had similar works and they always waived it

Sorry OP. I would definitely fight them on that, pretty ridiculous to see the direction Tesla's service is going nickel and diming everything. They were never great at fixing things but they were pretty good about not charging especially if you were under warranty. Lots of changes in the last couple years for the worse. For anyone else... If you've got that driver's seat rattle/click that occurs around turns or when your weight shifts this is how you fix it. Someone else posted this and I ran across it a few months ago, fixed my issue and many others that replied to them. It's tucked away in a comment on another Reddit post on this issue. I haven't even thought about this issue in months. I did this after going to Tesla and they did the same thing for me that they did for OP and the issue came back a few days later. You have to lift up the front of the driver's seat cushion and you'll find 2 bolts you can access under the cushion towards the front of the seat where your legs sit. If I recall correctly they are screwed into plastic. Your goal is to tighten them, maybe a quarter turn. Don't go crazy cause they will strip. To access them you have to reach under the front of the seat. You'll find the driver's seat cushion is just clipped over under the seat. Once you follow the driver's seat cushion and find this spot you just pull down to unclip it. You will then be able to pull up and pull back the front of the seat cushion to find the bolts needed to resolve this.

Noises are covered under their own 12k mile warranty so that should be covered.

Xoblin2000 2026-02-17 00:43

They will always show an estimated price when requesting any repairs, but on e completed it should be taken down to zero. The only "repairs" you would be paying for is something you caused or damaged.

nickjhowe 2026-02-17 00:50

I had the same problem on the passenger side. Also finally (after replacing the seat and the riser) traced to an issue with the frame. Fully covered under warranty.

schaudhery 2026-02-17 01:01

If a part needs replacement it’s covered? Time to just break something on the seat.

This is what happens when the manufacturer owns the service department. They don't want to be held accountable for manufacturing issues like this so they blame us for having hearing.

LightxDarkness93 2026-02-17 02:04

When you brought the car in, did they say its covered by warranty?

junz415 2026-02-17 02:17

no warranty?

collegedreads 2026-02-17 02:18

Ask about making it service adjustment instead. Note that’s a one time thing tho.

Public-Practice-4032 2026-02-17 02:58

they charge you, you approve it and then after the work is done, they void it.

Dpw325 2026-02-17 03:07

Tesla tried this on me when my heated steering wheel failed on my 2025 MY. The line they gave me in the app was "we need to charge a diagnostic fee to see if we can duplicate the issue, if we can, we'll refund you and then fix it." I wound up calling the service center, talking to a manager, and getting it waived in the app. This was new to me, neither BMW, Audi, or Ford ever said anything like this on cars I've had from them under warranty.

ThaiTum 2026-02-17 03:52

This is standard for Tesla because too many people were bringing in cars with noises that turned out to be not a manufacturing fault. Like stuff left in the glove box or door pockets rattling about. When I first got my first Model S in 2016 they were more like MB and BMW, even got a loaner every time. It’s when all the Model 3 and Y hit the market that service went downhill. They don’t have an incentive to keep you happy like the traditional dealers where you could take your maintenance business to the dealership across town.

Bright-Yesterday-467 2026-02-17 04:20

Tesla does not incentivize its service department to keep customers happy. I soon realized that Tesla is not a luxury brand like Mercedes or BMW where good will repairs are common under warranty and out of warranty. A lot of people have been complaining about the defective suspension bolt for lower control arm.

General_Diag4321 2026-02-17 06:01

Please ask them about the Service Adjustment period, and if this visit can apply.

ManitoN 2026-02-17 08:41

Tesla pulled the same trick on me to fix the headrest rattle. Push it back and don’t accept it. It is really stupid, warranty is warranty and they should honor it. They made up this “if part is not replaced, customer pays the repair” thing out of nowhere.

Allenloveslunchbox 2026-02-17 12:21

Can’t you lemon the car if the issue persist?

Low_Bluebird8413 2026-02-17 13:00

It’s covered by warranty just tell them, it showing up as a charge and they will adjust it.

itzabhinavs 2026-02-17 18:50

Thank you everyone for the comments. Tesla said it’s an invoicing mistake and everything was covered under warranty! Thanks again for sharing your experiences!!!

Away-Scar7754 2026-02-17 19:50

Oh Hell No

artivh 2026-02-19 03:05

I just picked it up today and guess what water again, actually they made it worst. Yes you can but the the new model y will cost 10k more and I don't want to lemon the car, drives great and no other issues.

TheRuinedOne 2026-02-20 20:27

it's probably a billing error...just contact them and see what they say.
