Will it Buff Out?

rage675 | 2026-02-16 00:45 | 107 views

An 80 year old lady who was not paying attention t-boned me coming out of a shopping center trying to turn left. She was ticketed. Collision avoidance did its job to help avoid a head on. Interior looks to be spared, but I didn't really take much time to inspect that. Thankfully, I was the only one in my car. I have all of the videos ready to send to her insurance adjuster. I'm in NY state.

There needs to be an age limit for driver’s licenses

Background-House9795 2026-02-16 01:04

I had the same thing happen to me! But it was a long time ago. Her brand new Caddy (dealer tags) was totaled. My 88 Jeep Grand Wagoneer needed a tire and a door.

pharm888 2026-02-16 01:14

Time to go car shopping, she’s totaled

snakefighting 2026-02-16 01:17

Totaled

lotsinlife 2026-02-16 01:19

Sorry to say, it’s Most likely totaled, good luck

redbandit88 2026-02-16 01:23

Some spit and some elbow grease

Feisty_Crab7052 2026-02-16 01:26

Just a little 🐢wax and good as new! You’re just in time for 0% apr.

lurkingtonbear 2026-02-16 01:27

Not a limit, just a yearly enforced test after age 55. Easy peasy. The problem is that the geezers who need their licenses taken vote in higher proportion than any other voting group, so this shit will never happen.

Firebird5488 2026-02-16 01:32

Send the video to Wham Baam Tesalcam [BEST OF WHAM BAAM TESLACAM | 5 HOURS OF CRASHES, ROAD RAGE AND SENTRY MODE VIDEOS](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m84x6cdLYM)

PilotPirx73 2026-02-16 01:33

Maybe put a wrap over it

Firebird5488 2026-02-16 01:33

age 55 is too early. start from age 70.

Unfair_Tonight_9797 2026-02-16 01:37

Duct tape and bondo my dude.. (glad you are okay)

lurkingtonbear 2026-02-16 01:46

No between 55 and 70 is when a lot of people need to lose their licenses by. The checks need to start earlier. They’ll be fine, unless they can’t drive.

Aggressive_Wasabi_54 2026-02-16 01:55

I agree 55 is too early. 70 is better and I think bi annual would suffice

economic-buffer901 2026-02-16 01:59

Slight damage from accident when it gets sold on marketplaces.

Representative-Law99 2026-02-16 02:00

I second this!! Lol

Fore_putt 2026-02-16 02:01

I can’t stress it enough, DONT TAKE YOUR TESLA THROUGH CAR WASHES!

rage675 2026-02-16 02:09

I know, it's bad, but, it's been mostly in the single digits and teens F here and has snowed almost every day for weeks and it was finally 40F today. I was heading to a car wash and then this happened.

rage675 2026-02-16 02:10

Yeah, saw the promo. 0.99% for the premium, which is what I would choose. Have to wait until Tuesday to talk to the adjuster, but I'm assuming it will be totaled.

Brave_Wishbone_2436 2026-02-16 02:24

No just mandatory FSD

Brave_Wishbone_2436 2026-02-16 02:24

Fifty five? Bro

lurkingtonbear 2026-02-16 02:28

Yes that would be the STARTING age to detect mental decline. For anyone who doesn’t have a problem, it shouldn’t matter. For anyone who does have a problem, well that’s who you wanted to catch. You don’t set the age at the point where MOST people have problems BY because that means problems have been going on for years by that point. Yes. 55.

Brave_Wishbone_2436 2026-02-16 02:34

You still have time to delete this

antimagamagma 2026-02-16 02:35

if you’re able to get the claim filed directly to her insurance, total the car.

lurkingtonbear 2026-02-16 02:40

Why would being the same age AARP requires, or the age for a 55+ community, be a bad STARTING point to begin addressing mental decline and motor skills? Go ahead, begin explaining your logic. Edit: it's kind of amazing that you don't drop any rebuttal or provide a solution or any evidence. You just come in, drop a comment, and dip the fuck out. People like you should be banned from making comments honestly.

Tradetheday2093 2026-02-16 02:42

How come?

RealPropRandy 2026-02-16 02:46

Yes

skodes21 2026-02-16 03:25

Congrats on the new model Y!

Aggressive_Wasabi_54 2026-02-16 03:26

Unless you can back this up by fact it seems completely unreasonable to cast out drivers at this age

InformationHot4897 2026-02-16 03:35

55 is pretty much the safest driver age I’d wager - people are completely sharp at that age! I think people would be comfortable with extra scrutiny on those over 80. Considering retirement is 67.5 years - we expect people to work at least til then, and maybe even 72!

lurkingtonbear 2026-02-16 03:35

I don't think it's on me to back it up. It's on them to prove they can still drive, and as long as they can, there is no problem. Fuck it, let's keep it yearly from age 16 until death. There, your argument is now irrelevant.

Videoplushair 2026-02-16 04:25

Yeah for about $15,000 it will.

MostlyDeferential 2026-02-16 04:52

I'd get behind this choice!! I'm also one who hopes we legislate continuous proof of gun ownership, skill, and safety. Some sort of annual test or certification from gun ranges would be fine. Kinda the same concepts for violent and potentially lethal tech that is harder for some folks to handle than other; especially emotional people. Whatcha think; why not do both to help?

lurkingtonbear 2026-02-16 04:56

For sure the exact same idea should be applied to anything that can harm people if someone's skills with that thing have deteriorated. This should be no different than being allowed to practice medicine, flying a plane, or anything else that failure leads to death. There should never be any resistance to this except from those who feel they would be told they couldn't do something, in which case, they shouldn't be doing it so I don't care what that individual's opinion is. I'm all for it.

ryanb450 2026-02-16 04:58

In a situation like that, you want it to be totaled. That car will never drive the same again. If you were to get into another crash, it probably wouldn’t hold up as well. So have fun picking out a new one!

cheapdvds 2026-02-16 05:07

Adjuster: The best I can do is $10k.

VintageBoost1 2026-02-16 05:53

Easy bro, you can probably do it yourself.

pinchy74 2026-02-16 06:01

Motion passed!

pinchy74 2026-02-16 06:02

OMG someone who doesn't say ducK tape. You my dude are one in a million.

pinchy74 2026-02-16 06:05

The only thing you'll be buffing is her insurance company for a new vehicle! Damn though, sorry about the accident, I hope you're still feeling okay in a few days. I was pretty sore a few days/week after writing off my truck, I hope that doesn't happen to you.

RedElmo65 2026-02-16 06:14

No need. Within spec.

OLVANstorm 2026-02-16 07:00

Maybe with a Sham-WOW?

GreatSince86 2026-02-16 12:24

I'm curious how insurance is going to be replacing these cars with "like kind" cars that don't have autopilot.

jpcams 2026-02-16 12:42

from this angle I really don't see what you're talking about? rear tire looks low, you might want to get some air. otherwise happy riding!

Icy-Net-810 2026-02-16 12:50

It gives it “character”; I like it.

Gu-oh-no 2026-02-16 13:33

Yes

generalemiel 2026-02-16 14:01

Would suggest a mandatory test when reaching 70 & every 5 years you do another check. (This is what we do in the Netherlands

th1nk_4_yourself 2026-02-16 18:53

Yes, but you'll still need a new tire.

Squirrel_Gooner56 2026-02-16 19:48

A bit of air in the rear tyre and she's a good'un

BeerBaitIceAmmo 2026-02-16 20:22

Tis but a scratch

Alucardis666 2026-02-16 21:31

OUCH!

NecessaryInternet603 2026-02-16 22:30

That appears to be repairable in my opinion.

agentrwc 2026-02-16 23:37

Totaled-ly

kk1485 2026-02-17 00:29

Agreed on it looking totaled. Every panel on that side of the vehicle will need extensive work or replacement.

Firebird5488 2026-02-17 00:42

Also take consideration of taxing the system to implement such a check vs the result benefit. Starting at 70 would still take many years to go through the processing backlog, GPT estimate: 35 million drivers age 70+ 100 million drivers age 55+ **The "Age 70" Shift:** In 2026, many states are implementing stricter in-person renewal rules once you hit 70. While no state revokes a license *solely* for age, many (like California and Florida) require more frequent vision tests and in-person visits rather than online renewals once you reach this milestone.

Firebird5488 2026-02-17 00:47

Iceland uses a progressive system where the older you get, the more often you must prove your fitness to drive. By age 70, the validity of your license begins to shrink rapidly: |**Age of Driver**|**License Validity Period**| |:-|:-| |**65 to 69**|5 Years| |**70**|**4 Years**| |**71**|**3 Years**| |**72 to 79**|**2 Years**| |**80 and older**|**1 Year**|

yomomma005 2026-02-17 01:14

Easy. Don’t forget the blinker fluid!

Empty_Buffalo_2820 2026-02-17 05:08

Absofreakinlutely. (Sorry for your loss, all jokes aside)

aliens_300c 2026-02-17 17:06

Yep, seeing that I had a minor dent in my rear quarter panel that cost insurance about 8k to repair this is looking totaled.

FragrantSoftware1937 2026-02-18 18:46

This lady should have a Tesla with FSD, and this would never happen

lurkingtonbear 2026-02-19 04:44

https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaCam/s/nKtARjE8oa Curious how old you think this person is?

ballout_glo_300 2026-02-19 17:26

Little spit and grit and it’ll come right out 😭

rage675 2026-02-20 05:47

This is what I did immediately. The lady even lied to her insurance company and said I was speeding and went through a red light ( there was no light there). She also admitted to insurance that she got a ticket. Zero logic, and she is still driving around. The insurance company accepted liability BEFORE I sent them the videos. I think they wanted the videos to use against the lady to dump her. Now I'm just waiting on the appraisal result.
