Model Y L in USA?

ninemolt | 2026-02-15 16:46 | 21 views

I saw an [interesting video](https://youtube.com/shorts/JHLQ864pp7c?si=jvIn35PD4ZeebgMS) that claimed we may see a Model Y L in the US markets this quarter. Do we think this is likely? I would have expected to see photos of spy vehicles at this point if it were actually likely... but that being said, it seems like it released in China pretty abruptly. Chinese prices I saw were like 339,000 Chinese Yuan (\~ $50K USD)... what are we thinking this model might cost in a US market?

I didn’t think we would see it but now I’m curious that the X, which is their larger suv is going away…. Maybe this is the “replacement” size wise?

Manyconnections 2026-02-15 17:01

I hope so. I was on board with a 7 seat y already but got cold feet and decided to put my hopes on a yL release. There was no way I was going for a polestar or Hyundai/kia ev lol.

WhereCanIFind 2026-02-15 17:14

It's value kinda drops because no more auto steer.

omy2vacay 2026-02-15 17:19

Model X should be discounted, and prices slashed to deplete inventory before the end of Q2. There's also the fact that the 7 seater Model Y was released not too long ago. My guess is that the Model Y L wouldn't be in the US until mid to late 2027.

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-15 17:48

FSD is better anyway

FoxBearBear 2026-02-15 18:01

But you have to pay $1200 per year

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-15 18:02

To be driven everywhere? Not an issue I bought FSD with my Tesla in 2021 - and I use it daily I’d guess 70k of my 100k miles are purely FSD

FoxBearBear 2026-02-15 18:08

Same, but you can’t compare a free system that was cut in favor of one that costs 2.5% of the vehicle per year to use.

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-15 18:12

You can compare and FSD is way better, in five years. I probably use auto pilot two times and that was probably my first year of owning the car.

oOoWTFMATE 2026-02-15 18:18

I’ll take AS for free over $1200/year FSD any day as would most people.

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-15 18:20

AP it’s not as good and cannot do everything that FSD can so I absolutely would not take it Crazy how people are pinching pennies after buying a 50+ thousand dollar car, especially when it’s for a system that is far better than anything else you can buy

Legal-Square-1362 2026-02-15 18:22

90% people don’t even know what auto steer. FSD is where it’s at. If you are too cheap to get FSD then move to other cars

Legal-Square-1362 2026-02-15 18:23

They will see every single Model X why would they discount it.

FoxBearBear 2026-02-15 18:24

Please enlighten me how you can compare a free feature that was removed ?

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-15 18:34

By telling you that it’s far better and does more?? AP is not the best system of its kind - but FSD is

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-15 18:50

Seriously I can’t believe people who are buying $50,000 or more cars are crying about $100 a month. If it’s so hard stop going out and buying coffee every day and make it at home. Eat and drink out less per month I’ll put that money toward FSD. It’s more worth it as you can make better food at home anyway or the same for much less than a restaurant. Same with the bars, you can drink at home for a fraction of the price as going to a bar I can pay $10 for a six pack of beer I like or go to a bar and pay seven dollars for one class of it… FSD is so good that if you were really pennypinching cut something else out LMAO crazy how people are

FiestaPotato18 2026-02-15 18:58

No chance they’ll discount them, if anything they’ll be higher in demand than they’ve been in years.

FiestaPotato18 2026-02-15 18:59

I have FSD and use AP 80% of the time or more. FSD is absolute ass on the interstate. Can’t control speed, camps in the left lane, makes poor decisions when it does decide to switch lanes. Interstate autopilot is flawless and sits exactly where I tell it to.

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-15 19:00

Wild because I’ve used FSD all over the country and I’ve had literally no bad experiences. It’s been excellent. Chill mode makes it stay in one lane

[deleted] 2026-02-15 19:02

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-15 19:03

So you would rather not be able to look at the road and unsafely use the system that’s cool If you want to use your phone while driving and get a phone mount that goes right next to your screen and you can use your phone there with FSD

DiagCarFix 2026-02-15 19:47

everything new goes to china first except FSD but FSD is far more complicated in China not due to regulation it’s the traffic itself. theres no cars with intel, and more competitive.

ForTheB0r3d 2026-02-15 19:51

Sigh. You don't understand. The way you're thinking is supportive of everything that is wrong with big companies/corporations today. Let me explain. Tesla previously included base trims with "Autopilot" which allowed everyone to use the autosteer on highways. This was essentially built into the price of the vehicle. Now - they're taking that away and not changing the price of the vehicle. They're locking it away behind a subscription paywall. $1200/yr now for something that - [yes i realize the free version is not full self driving]. So yeah - people SHOULD complain about this shit. People SHOULD be mad. The more this type of shit happens the more everyone ends up losing out on features that should be included. I think if this was based on a trim that was reduced in price due to not including basic autopilot people would be more receptive to the change. But no - this is just another company deciding to increase profits and shit on their customers. Going way back - basic TV used to be free and then cable came along and lobbied for broadcast to exclude the free antennae service. Tale as old as time. It's going to be wonderful when more companies catch on and start to take away basics from their brands and not pass the savings on to their customers. /s

WhereCanIFind 2026-02-15 19:59

Especially when Tesla had the huge value proposition of getting a lot of good features standard like heated steering/seats/tilting side mirrors. Autosteer was one of those and they removed it just to get better FSD sales. I'm one of those who probably get FSD during random road trips but I wouldn't be subscribing indefinitely.

takesshitsatwork 2026-02-15 20:21

Nah, I don't trust FSD with my life. Neither does Tesla because they make sure to throw 100 disclaimers at you. I don't mind using auto pilot. And you're right. I will refuse to buy a new Tesla if they don't have what comes standard on other cars. It isn't about being cheap, it's about being a smart consumer.

solarsystemoccupant 2026-02-15 20:25

If the next president dumps the anti free market China tariffs, I’d expect Tesla would import the CN made Y L.

SomeFuckingMillenial 2026-02-15 20:25

FSD is ok and a novelty. I'm already in the car and I have to pay attention. Why pay money so I can sit there and do nothing.

free-creddit-report 2026-02-15 20:29

Paying 2.5% the purchase cost of your car annually is not "pinching pennies." Consider the difference of financing your car at 2% APR vs 4.5% APR. Not to mention that price can go up at any time. FSD is super cool, but absolutely not worth the cost to me unless it were unsupervised. I'm plenty capable of driving my own car to save $1,200 a year. No free Autopilot is yielding a major advantage to competitors for essentially no reason.

FoxBearBear 2026-02-15 20:57

Do you understand the concept of cost to benefit ?

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-15 20:58

Yes the benefit of FSD is worth the cost

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-15 21:03

I do understand- people are cheap and cry when the see subscription, even tho there is excellent value and usability with FSD Keep crying about it tho, let’s see if it helps

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-15 21:04

Um, novelty? I use it daily 70k of my 100k miles are 100% FSD lmao It does everything for me and I love it

tech01x 2026-02-15 21:36

I think they bring the Model Y L to US production in Q4.

HPMJ2014 2026-02-15 22:00

I have a 7 seater Y and I’m about to buy an X if they don’t release the YL. My kids occasionally ride back there, so it’s not daily use but I’d love the YL for more space back there.

HPMJ2014 2026-02-15 22:02

This is my thought as well and why I’m buying one soon. I think they will only go up in price now

Legal-Square-1362 2026-02-15 22:28

Not using life changing technology is on you. Enjoy driving manually.

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-02-16 02:41

I fucking hope man im rly waiting on one although im also waiting for AI5 sooooo

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-02-16 02:43

The Y L is absolutely perfect for me I live in a tight apartment with tight garage so can’t have a suburban or cyber obv but the current Y is just a teed bit too small especially carrying passengers (family of 4 but with 3 6 feet+ memebers and one motion sickness person) Y L would be fantastic. But that said I still think ON TOP Of Y L Tesla needs to make a true boxy big suv probably should use cyber platform

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-02-16 02:43

Why are yall so obsessed with auto steer omfg

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-02-16 02:44

$100 a month and tha is absolutely better than auto steer

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-02-16 02:45

AP atp is genuinely dangerous compared to fsd and kinda hurts the Tesla brand name. So many people don’t even know their car can drive itself they think the ap is as far as it goes. Honestly the more I think of it thank God Tesla killed ap finally people will use fsd and realize how ass ap was

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-02-16 02:47

Ong man. Fuck man those Waloonia people were right about the Dutch these people are spiritually Flemish what cheap fucks 😭

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-16 02:48

It’s pinching Pennie’s - people spend more on heating out or coffee every year If you’re buying a $50,000 car, you can absolutely afford $100 a month for the best rapper cis technology, people just don’t want to, they absolutely have the money if they can buy a Tesla

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-02-16 02:50

While I agree with you and I for the most part am against companies taking away things I think this move is right about Tesla. Especially for new buyers no one in big 2026 is buying a Tesla for base AP nor should they(altho I get it if you’re in Europe or China fsd isn’t around yet) but FSD on AI4 is just THAT good. People need to stop being scared and jump in. Also the autopilot name isn’t good for Tesla lots of bad stories from the last decade surrounding that and some people buy a Tesla thinking the AP IS the fsd when it’s NOT

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-02-16 02:50

You can still drive manually 🤷‍♂️ one of the funnest experiences is taking over from fsd and going maniac mode or going to the mountains and doing spirited drives

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-02-16 02:51

I’m already seeing the wait time creep up. Last month you could get an S/X in 2 weeks no it’s a month wait time

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-02-16 02:52

Ugh so far from now but probably a better idea for Tesla to wait for those ai5 chips to be ready rather than designing the Y L production line for AI4 then having to shortly after shut it down and re tool it

HPMJ2014 2026-02-16 03:05

I would buy a true suv immediately if they ever offered one. I wish so badly they would offer one 🙈🙈

free-creddit-report 2026-02-16 03:45

I'll take the food and drive my own car. Yes, I *could* afford another $100/month on top of the other subscriptions I have. I just don't think it's even close to worth it. So you are right that I just don't want to. There are better uses for my money. And I say that having used it and being very impressed with it from a technology standpoint before. Last I heard, FSD uptake in Tesla vehicles is under 20%, and all deliveries are coming with a trial. So I'm definitely not in the minority here in being unable or unwilling to pay for it.

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-16 03:46

AP 100% worse than FSD lmao I use FSD daily no issues…

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-16 03:46

I’m on HW3 and use FSD daily - love it

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-16 03:47

Right? Crazy they like AP but not FSD - since FSD does so much more

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-16 03:49

Weird because I can’t live without it But I know I’m 100% correct it’s just people being cheap If you can afford a Tesla, you can afford FSD Even cutting two dinner outings (assuming you get alcohol too) will pay for FSD Eating and drinking at home is cheaper and a lot of the time better - unless you’re going to some fancy restaurant

takesshitsatwork 2026-02-16 03:50

You cannot compare the 2 they are entirely different products, for different situations, and with different expectations.

tech01x 2026-02-16 03:51

Not likely going to AI5 requires a major change in production. They already make the Model YL design in Shanghai.

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-16 03:52

Yeah FSD you can use anytime anywhere AP is limited and not as useful

takesshitsatwork 2026-02-16 03:54

I don't think you understand what the down voting is for on Reddit. It's not for comments you don't like. This isn't Facebook. AP is advanced cruise control. I trust it. FSD can and has gotten people killed. Not worth the risk. If it was as good as you pretend it is, Tesla wouldn't shove 100 disclaimers down your throat.

Puzzleheaded-Race671 2026-02-16 04:16

Autopilot sucks man it constantly phantom breaks it weaves in the lane and sometimes disengages randomly. Even on my hw3 car fsd is planets better

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-16 04:23

FSD has 0 confirmed deaths Autopilot HAS confirmed deaths Are you ok? Lmao

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-16 04:24

u/takesshitsatwork lmao

schaudhery 2026-02-16 04:28

Best I can do is more factories for Optimus

takesshitsatwork 2026-02-16 04:29

Dead people cannot testify. That said, you either just lied or are ignorant. https://www.tesladeaths.com/

Hockeyshot39 2026-02-16 04:31

Look up the two involving FSD - neither are confirmed, it’s all speculation But AP has some confirmed deaths - including the most recent which was settled with a huge payout Pretend FSD has 2 confirmed (which it doesn’t) AP STILL has more deaths So why use AP then by your own statement?? You said FSD got people killed - did you not know AP did and has more than 2 confirmed deaths related? Or you just an uneducated donut THE WEBSITE YOU LINKED SAYS 65 RELATED AP DETAHS

WizeAdz 2026-02-16 04:49

Because my 2016 Honda Civic has auto steer, just like my 2022 Model Y. Dropping auto steer just makes the new Model Ys uncompetitive. *(After the free trials last year, I won’t even use FSD for free — so the base software in the Model Y is what I’m cross shopping for my next EV.  I have a MYLR7, and I’m shopping for a real 3-row vehicle — between driver assist and 3rd-row legroom, it’s looking like my next EV will be a Hyundai Ioniq 9 or Kia EV9.  I like my Tesla and it didn’t have to be this way, but product development is being mismanaged at Tesla so it’s looking like I’ll have to go with a competitor this time around.)*

WizeAdz 2026-02-16 04:57

That’s been my experience with FSD. I’m no paying $1200/year for a system that I’m going to turn off so I can use EAP. I’d rather just use EAP.  But that’s off the menu, so autosteer it is.

gym4c 2026-02-16 06:07

I’m in the same boat. Financed my 7 seat Y and waiting to see if the YL comes out when my Y is paid off, or if I look for a used X then

CTrandomdude 2026-02-16 17:36

I think it is highly likely. Especially with the X being discontinued. I think it has been cleared for release in the European market recently as well.

Quabbie 2026-02-16 23:56

Get a comma four from comma ai

yhsong1116 2026-02-17 21:13

imo q2 where they ramp down S X production and YL production can ramp to minimize dip in sales numbers

jflbball 2026-02-17 23:14

You should have done it. I ended up going with the new 7 seat Y. As a daily driver, it's a relatively big car, and with kids aged 2 and 5, it should be good for a while. Plus I was able to get FSD outright, which might have been the last chance for that. As much as I liked the 6 seat X and idea of the 6 seat YL, those are just too big as daily drivers when I thought more about it. Hitting the gym and running basic errands would be like driving around in a minivan. You might be different but just not my style.

Manyconnections 2026-02-18 02:01

I still might lol. I’m not a fan of fsd so it’s a non issue for me. But we’ll see if they release one at the end of the year

jflbball 2026-02-18 02:09

If you're not a fan of FSD, why not just do an R1S? The only reason I won't do anything other than a Tesla is because no one else offers anything that comes close to FSD. It's such a game changer I use it all the time in my wife's 2024 Model 3. Just makes driving so easy. You could do an R1S, older model X, etc. Why are you waiting for a new model of Tesla?

Manyconnections 2026-02-18 07:41

I like Tesla. R1s is too expensive for me. I don’t like buying used either so a used x isn’t for me. I think the yL would be best. For now I’ll stick with the model 3 performance. My family fits, it’s the occasional 6th or 7th passenger that we don’t have room for.
