Finally bit the bullet

Totaled my 10 year old car and while I wasn’t even considering to purchase/finance a new car, all the used model Ys were somewhat overpriced. FSD was the main reason I wanted the Tesla. Coupled with the typical sketchy dealerships on used and the 0% financing for 6 years, it seemed like a no brainer. Picking our car up today! Super excited!!

Bro congrats but please dont treat your vehicle's battery like your phone

rwhe83 2026-02-15 17:38

Right? OP’s screwed if they don’t even charge their phone and they are getting an EV….

Me too!

pmsonceamonth 2026-02-15 18:20

🤣uber is minutes away and my phone is 88% charged 🙌🏼

I’ve heard 20(ideally 50)-80% battery should be the range it should always be between. Will do my best!

FSD subscription or ownership?

AfricanGenius- 2026-02-15 21:11

congratulations, enjoy it!

Charge it enough for your usage, the car has to be usable **For you** If the usage is low, then you can try to keep the battery in 30-50% range

Slayerz00m 2026-02-15 23:55

Congrats 🎉

BubblyYak8315 2026-02-16 04:45

This is completely unnecessary. They just should follow Teslas guidelines

Slayerz00m 2026-02-16 04:52

No it's not Guideline to charge to no more than 80% is generic - **One Size Fits All** kind of deal If someone needs more, they'll need to charge higher Likewise, if someone needs less, there's no need to stress the battery to 80% levels It's a known fact that lithium batteries have longer life if kept around 50% charge So if 80% isn't needed, then charging to 50% is better for battery life

Looks like ownership

2026 Premium Y RWD sold in the US are mostly not Lithium. Just for your info.

Slayerz00m 2026-02-16 22:09

LoL Just for your info, they are all lithium batteries. Specifically I meant the Nickel based NMC/NCA 2170/4680 cells Only model 3 RWD comes with LFP battery, which needs a 100% charge every week or so to recalibrate the BMS PS even that is a lithium battery
