2026 MYP front passenger window cracked.

NYKmasochist | 2026-02-14 04:44 | 12 views

Opened the passenger side front door and when closing the door, the window did not stay retracted, but returned to the fully closed position. Apparent failure of the window indexing. When we tried to close the door the window cracked. Is this a known problem of the frameless windows in Teslas?

Sounds almost like the passenger pulled the manual switch to open the door, huh? Because the moment they hit the electronic door release, the window has to drop.

Yes, I know that would do it, but it was in the garage, wife opened the door from the outside, so the window had to retract, but it seems to have gone back up before closing the door. The car is just six weeks old, we never used the manual release.

Is the puddle light working? The light that turns on to shine onto the ground from the door?

Picked up my 2026 MYP last week and the exact same thing happened within 24 hours lol Notified them in the app and they fixed it for free.

The manual door release was patched over a year ago so that when it’s pulled the window drops. That would not cause this issue.

I took it into Tesla and they scheduled a service for next week. They gave me an invoice for window glass and frame, $ 620 + tax. I made an insurance claim (Tesla insurance in Florida), they said that they will cover it. But, will my rates go up??

Good to hear that the issue was fixed. Thanks for the info.

How is that an insurance claim and not covered by warranty.

NYKmasochist 2026-02-14 20:43

Yes, the puddle light is working.

Tesla in Florida is asking for $620.

NYKmasochist 2026-02-14 20:46

Good question, I certainly would rather not use insurance.

Just happened on my 2026 MYP. Passenger door opened from outside. Window failed to retract. Didn’t notice and damaged trim. Sent Tesla surveillance footage of the incident. Clearly a defect OP.

Spoke to Tesla service today and they agreed that the cracked window was caused by a ‘very rare’ failure of the window mechanism. Therefore, no problem, “we will cover it under the warranty”. Canceled the insurance claim.
