You know I thought about that but it'll stay in chill mode the whole time. I honestly wish they gave all 3 modes on Performance. Chill - Normal - Sport. It's the same reason why I haven't done the performance boost as well on my current AWD Model Y.

My wife has a M3P, and I don’t enjoy driving it as much as my old M3 RWD.
Don’t get me wrong, flooring it on the freeway on-ramp always puts a smile on my face. But I have to mentally prepare every time I want to floor it - review all the traffic for a goodly distance ahead, decide on exit strategies if something goes wrong, get my focus in line.
My old M3 the acceleration was just about perfect for me-my normal level of focus and awareness was good enough to floor it almost anytime I wanted. Besides, when I first got it (2018), the odds of running across anything quicker were almost zero. Eight years of EV revolution later, and it’s 5 second 0-60 seems almost quaint.

I drive a Model Y performance and it stays in Chill mode 80% of the time, but when you want/need that speed it really comes in handy.
Like if you are waiting at a stop light in the 2nd lane and need to pass 6 cars in the right lane to get on the freeway. #performancemode
Or, when you are on a two-lane road that merges down to a single lane and you don’t want to get stuck behind the slow vehicles ahead. #performancemode

I demo drove the Model 3 Performance recently and kinda agree with you.
I have a 2026 Model Y LR AWD (Premium trim) and it's already super quick with its acceleration. I actually like the tiny delay before it starts just going rather than the M3P/MYP just instantly launching and you're already at 60+ mph in a blink.
We also have a 2024 Model Y LR AWD and I noticed that Tesla improved the initial acceleration in the 2026 Model Y's. If you put the tiniest of pressure on the accelerator, the 2026 Model Y just starts going whereas the Legacy Y requires a little more pressure/press and feels like it has a longer delay. This change is VERY noticeable when accelerating in a 2026 Model Y (AWD) vs a Legacy Y (AWD).
Before I got the 2026 Y, I was thinking of possibly buying Acceleration Boost in the future but I actually love how the acceleration is on it that I don't want it improved/quicker.

It’s not too fast. While it never gets old, you get used to having that much power. And you find ways to use it. I’m a much more assertive driver because of it.
Have respect for the power and you’ll be fine. I have the switch for chill and performance on the left wheel as well. It works great.
Just don’t turn down traction control. My 2023 has track mode and I’ve never really used it. That’s where you can really run into trouble.
What’s great is launching from a complete stop and feeling the AWD system at the edge of spinning the tires. There is just a bit of torque steer as it’s clawing its way to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. (Or 3.3 seconds in the new MYP.)

When I drove my friends Ferrari the thing I noticed is I could feel every bump on the road, for that car it made sense bc it’s all about driving really fast on a track, etc. you felt planted and didn’t care about the inconvenience because it’s a Ferrari you drive for purely performance reasons. But for the daily driver, I want something that soaks up the bumps so I’m not getting my coffee on my lap on the morning commute. Is that you?

People who get nauseated in an EV usually gets nauseated because the driver doesn’t smoothly accelerate/decelerate, but instead ‘pulses’ the accelerator when they drive, which in an EV with regenerative braking, causes more subtle forward/backward jerking movements.

S3xy products do this. You can define at which pedal position (eg. 95%+ press) it switches to Sport or whatever. And after a defined time of a lower pedal position it switches back.
Like the basic function would be if car manufacturers didn't think the customer expects different fake driving modes.

The two modes are totally different. The throttle is way less sensitive in chill and max acceleration is significantly capped.
In normal mode the bottom end of the throttle is super sensitive. Took me a few weeks to really get used to being able to drive gently with it. Sort of like braking with your left foot.

It actually cannot for Model Ys built after Nov 2025, of which all performance models are.
I believe Tesla changed the wiring harness and they're having to build new harnesses and test the canbus to make sure it works the same. but it's currently a no go with no mentioned timeline of when or if it's going to work.
There's a couple features the S3XY Commander can't do on the Junipers that they don't readily tell folks who are buying them about.

One of my concerns using normal mode was that if I needed to react to something the system would be dampened and would react sluggish. Its the reason I've stuck to the 1:1 ratio on sport mode. My biggest concern was burning through tires at first but I leave it in FSD and it doesn't seem to be wearing out the tires fast.

You made an excellent choice. I own a MYP and hate it. You get staggered wheels that you cannot properly rotate (rear is wider than the front). You get huge rims that will eventually get scratched when the front of your car clears something but the rear rim hits the curb because the rear is wider than the front. The tires on the MYP are more expensive. The ride quality on the MYP is worse because of the stiffer suspension and again narrow rubber band tires. You will enjoy the better ride quality daily while the faster acceleration will be something that you enjoy once in a while if ever.

Is this a complaint? I can’t believe someone is complaining that the car is too fast. I am perfectly fine with the speed and love the performance.

That’s right. Leave the lightweights at home. Sport mode for the big boys!

Well I imagine a sports sedan would beat the MYP for the money for all around performance sports sedan, considering the Y is not a sedan. Nice your parents got you your own iPad, though.

I said SUV/sports sedan. The MYP blurs the line between the two. I think of a bmw 5 series as a sports sedan, and the MYP is lighter, so what is your point?
You tell me what car is going to outperform the MYP for the same money? And still have the same utility, cargo capacity, passenger room?

My bro-in-law did the same thing. I kept telling him how much I regretted not getting the Performance. He said the AWD had enough for him. I totally get it, but I've got a need for speed

This is my line of thinking. "Its better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war."

Hell yes! I come from high HP performance cars so I'm used to paying 3-500 per tire. These tires are inexpensive compared to the ones I'm used to.

This is exactly why I like cars with power. You know its there if you need it.

I am driving my kids around 90% of the time and it drives like a regular car. Nice to have the power in reserve when I need to pass a semi on a 1 lane or something.
