Odds of Model Y Long coming to US?

AccidentalPickle | 2026-02-13 16:41 | 15 views

Hi Tesla friends, I am curious if anyone has good information about when the Model Y Long body will come to the US. I have been looking for a Model X because I need the three row captains setup for my three kids. But, with the Model X being cancelled and its known issues with the falcon doors and other hinky issues, I'm now re-thinking whether buying an expensive finicky car thats being sunset is a good idea. The Model Y Long would fit my needs really nicely if offered in the US, given that I have small kids that can fit in the back row. The news of the Toyota Highlander three row EV coming I feel was very big news for this sector and should send a wake up call to Tesla; they now have no real three-row offering in the US and real competition. Could we see them announce the MY-L US launch soon? What do you guys think?

Honestly, I don’t expect it to release in the US anytime soon. The reason I’m saying this is because last month Tesla added back the 7 seater option for the Model Y, a US exclusive. I want to be wrong, the Model Y L would be a very solid addition to the lineup.

Tesla is missing out in this segment, hope there will be a new model soon.

Tesla is known to make dynamic changes so they can do anything at any time. However, I do think it could take many/several months or 1+ years for a Model Y L to come to the states. They introduced a "Model Y AWD" in 2023 and then removed it entirely some months later. Tesla released Model 3 Refresh in Jan 2024 for the US and it didn't qualify for $7500 tax credit. Then 6 months later, they got AWD and Perf trims to qualify. They introduced a "Model 3 RWD" in 2024 but it didn't qualify for the $7500 tax credit so they replaced it with "Model 3 LR RWD" that qualified for tax credit. Tesla randomly upgraded screens to 16 inch, added black headliner, etc to their Model Y Premium trims a few months back. The list goes on.

Since they introduced the Juniper 7 seat option, I would say nix on L version. Look into the Cadillac Vistiq.

Agree that’s the best three row EV but no FSD. To me now that I’ve experienced FSD, it’s like color and regular driving is like black and white. I can’t shake it!

Re/": random trim updates... probably wasn't random. Likely they had to go through stock of the old screens first and headliners first, so they sold the cars with those until they ran out.

I’m guessing the end of the year at the earliest. I’m ready to change from my launch edition juniper lol. Need more room with the newborn. It should be launching in Korea and Europe soon though with the 88 kWh battery?
