NovaPads for cold night road trip in my Model You, what OEM Tesla Mattress sleeping setups do you guys use?

Different-Use2635 | 2026-02-12 09:40 | 70 views

Did a short road trip this week and decided to turn it into an overnight stay. Temps dropped more than I expected, so it was a good test of my current setup, I just got this replacement. I used a NovaPads as my Tesla bed this time around and it handled the colder night better than my old stack-of-blankets approach. The fitting was solid, and easy to set up after a long drive, and I didn’t wake up stiff, which honestly surprised me. I am still very much in the figuring things out phase though. I see people using everything from air mattresses to foam pad to custom builds, really great ones I’ve seen on here. Would love to know what other Model You owners are running for camping or road trips, especially for cooler weather. Is there anything you’d switch up after a few nights out?

I’ve been using a basic foam mattress topper cut to size. Cheap and warm, but setup is annoying every time. Contemplating checking out one of these OEMs I've seen on here though. Maybe after i upgrade my standard Model Y to a Juniper.

You definitely should get a Juniper. my Model Y is great, but upgrading to Model Y Juniper has been a sweet feeling for me, there's a way it brings out that Inner child.

We've tried two mattresses so far and will be trying out more this year. Started with the Exped Megamat Auto back in summer of 2024. **Exped Megamat Auto Pros:** \- Super lightweight \- Strong materials (no air leaks) \- Comfortable enough when firmness is dialled in **Exped Megamat Auto Cons:** \- Comes with manual hand air pump (need to pay extra for auto inflate and deflate pump) \- Doesn't solve the slope/angle issue in Tesla Model Y so kept sliding down towards the bottom of the car throughout the night \- Head falls into gap between front seats and folded rear seats so need to use a headrest extender to solve this Then we were very lucky to be able to try out the Snuuzu in Summer of 2025. **Snuuzu Pros:** \- Feels like a luxury bed/mattress, doesn't feel like camping \- So easy to setup with included auto inflate and deflate pump \- Longest Tesla mattress so if you're over 6 foot you can actually sleep on this in comfort \- Air pump integrated in the design but also detachable, so if pump breaks it's easy to swap out for new one \- Evens out the angle/slope issue in the Model Y. Doesn't make it completely level but makes it more flat so no more sliding down \- Built-in head support so head doesn't fall down the gap and no need for headrest extender \- Super easy to remove and wash the mattress topper **Snuuzu Cons:** \- Expensive (although you get what you pay for in this instance) \- Slightly larger and heavier than Exped Megamat Auto when stored away (still fits in sub trunk and frunk though!) \- Slightly thicker so less headroom when sitting up on the mattress Looking forward to testing out the Official OEM Tesla Mattress by Tesla. My brother in law has it and others have mentioned it does the job but can feel a bit on the firm side. Maybe not enough support for people who need it. Will share my thoughts when we test it out but looks like decent value for money. Havnby auto level mattress (now called Pro) also looks really good and looking forward to testing that out soon. NovaPads also looks like a good mattress for the price. Seems very similar to the standard Havnby mattress, I wonder if they are made in the same factory? Lost Horizon is a mattress lots of Tesla Campers rave about too. Seems to be a clone of the Exped Megamat Auto and I've heard some people mention the material around the pump/inflation area can become weak and prone to leaks but others have not had any issues. That's all of the most notable mattresses for Tesla camping I can think of. If I've missed any out please do let me know. What I have noticed is while one mattress might be good for one, another may be more suitable for someone else. Best to do your own research first and figure out what your own needs are. Lots more options now than we we started camping in our Tesla a few years ago!

I just got my Juniper but I've been thinking about this. Thank you for posting. I was considering using the parcel shelf under the mattress at the head, to bridge the gap between the headrests. This might worsen the angle problem tho. I'll put it together and take some pics.

I would prefer something that fits right into the car without looking too obnoxious. Did it take up a lot of space in the trunk when packed? That’s always been my own biggest concern when it comes to choosing stuffs for my Model Y.

Now i really want to see your pics wwhen you get yours before deciding for myself.

The hand pump isn’t a huge inconvenience but once you’ve experienced auto inflation and deflation it’s a bit annoying going back to the hand pump. If setup and tear down speed is a priority I wouldn’t consider the Exped Megamat Auto unless you also pickup the Exped Megapump 👍

Where do you park and take a sleep break?

tinyboxav 2026-02-12 16:03

At a slow charger

I just use my backpacking sleep system. I'm used to it, it is super compact, and versatile.

I've done folded mattress toppers (egg crate foam and the like) that worked well enough. But the last couple trips I did I used the air mattress I have for backpacking (specifically Big Agnes Rapide SL) that worked great, especially in conjunction with removing the rear seat bottom to have the whole thing lay flatter.

I took pics of the parcel shelf in place, but it's not awesome. It fits perfect but the joints fold in the wrong place. Let me know if you want pics. Can't share them here I guess.

I’ve been using the Lost Horizon mattress for my 23 M3. I love it. Recently used it at the Drive Inn. Unfortunately, they seem to have stopped making them for the M3 (I only see the Y and CT listed now).

This is my go to mattress, it is easy to use and very comfy https://youtu.be/hcV54NUiSoc?si=FHIIOL-Kenh9epMy

Just buy two 6inch memory foam mattress toppers from Walmart and toss them in. Best sleep you will ever have on 12 inches of memory foam and for under $100!
