Wind down the windows slightly first.

I test mine weekly. The windows crack down to accommodate this.

does it also work with the rear door straps as well?

I have not tested the rear doors yet as I haven't looked at how to best remove the cover (fucking stupid as fuck idea that is). I did buy some cover removers to access the release however.
I expect the windows to do the same.
I also instructed my wife to regularly use the manual door opener, to make it second nature. In the worst case scenario (night time, car upside down, smoke filled etc), you want to be able to use muscle memory to open the doors, not have to think about it.

Pull the door release then slowly open the door. It will be fine to test just don't use it regularly.

ah is your cover screwed in? i know the newer post 2021 vehicles have a removable cover.

that video is a lot of bullshit clickbait made to induce hysteria. Paying too much attention to it is a very bad idea.
But, since you asked about the door releases - I suppose you could roll the windows down then do it, that's probably the only way to be sure the windows don't break.

If it's anything like the 3, the cover should be easily removable. IIRC, there is a small notch on one side to help you get a finger under it, and it pops right back in place after your testing is done.

No not screwed in. Yes it's removable but I haven't looked into its removal yet. It's probably pretty easy, but to a back seat passenger they would have no idea to even look for it. Such a dumb, dumb thing Tesla did with this.

Thank you, that's what I thought but I just haven't had the time to look at it every time I've thought about it.

Actually, you're not far off the truth.

Just to make it second nature.

Is any of it untrue?
I'm not hysterical, but I am motivated to figure out how the doors open in an emergency. In that sense it's a good thing.

I only skipped through it, and yes a lot of it is either untrue or exaggerated for effect. Learning how to use all emergency protocols in your car is a good thing though, so please continue.
