On Demand Charging vs. Scheduling

TDQV | 2026-02-09 17:08 | 18 views

I haven't figured out the charging pattern yet so I needed some feedback since it's bugging me: 1) M-F (weekdays) 12.00am to 11.45am: scheduled (so basically no immediate charging afternoons thru just before midnight - unless thru the app) 2) Sat + Sun - no schedules: should be plug & charging Issue: when I plugged the car in on Saturday night - securely - it never charged when I went to drive it on Sunday morning. Wondering if the non-charging on Sunday was caused by the window I set for the weekday schedule?

Add a schedule for Saturday and Sundays 12am to 11:59pm both days

I'm slow -- LOL -- what's the idea here besides having a schedule for everyday? Wouldn't that be counterintuitive to events such as plug & play or supercharging when you are not on a schedule?

Interesting... I had never known setting a schedule meant blocking all other hours. Have owned Tesla since 2019.

If you start using scheduled charging, you have to enter schedules covering all the times and days you want to charge. Either do not use scheduled charging at all or add all the times and days you want to charge in the scheduled charging.

The schedule ties to the GPS location of the car when you set it. So home and work for instance have different schedules

True & Understood on this. I think my use case happened at home. So am still researching about on demand plug & charge pattern which the poster above says anything not on hschedule is blocked.

on-demand just needs to be a scheduled whole day. Because you 'confused it' by adding M-F schedules it won't assume you want Sat/Sun to be unrestricted. So the suggestion of 12:00am-11:59pm makes sense and would get the whole day. It might make more sense or be easier to read if you say did 01:00am-11:00pm. BTW: 12:00am-11:59pm is easier to read in 24-hour time as 00:00-23:59

Yup. On the Sun-Sat screen without a schedule is on-demand but you switched it to scheduled mode and added M-F only. For on-demand at that location you need to add 00:00-23:59 Sat + Sun. Which in 12-hour time looks like 12:00am-11:59pm.

So I think I may have stumbled upon where there is a gap that allows me to charge on- demand immediately even with a schedule. In the manual it says specifically 3rd bullet 👇. It doesn't explain why I plugged in Saturday night & didn't get a charge when my Next schedule charge was midnight (00h:00m) Monday morning or > 18 hours away. Thoughts? There are scenarios where Scheduled Charging starts immediately. These scenarios can occur when Model Y is plugged in: * During a scheduled charge. * Up to 6 hours after the start of a scheduled charge, if there is no specified End by time. * WHEN the next scheduled charge is more than 18 hours away and not the current day. * When you haven't configured a Start at time and there is not enough time to reach the charge limit by the End by time.

Weird rules. These could easily get someone in trouble thinking it'll wait until it's schedule.

Or in my case thinking it will charge because it was outside the 18 hour same-day window above as has been the case before & being disappointed this past weekend.
