Oh. Is there anything I can do about the color? Can I peel it off and get new PPF? I never had PPF on my model 3 so I don’t even know what it looks like
DeltaSpecialForce
2026-02-07 23:41
PPF protection for the rocker area, helps prevent rock chips since they are common in that area since the body flares out a little bit.
Tesla used to sell their own as well but I don't see it in the shop anymore.

You can peel it off if you want, you can't do anything about the color now

I’d expect you can remove and install fresh PPF if you desire.
I had a lot of rough paint there prior to installing front mud flaps. I have a 2020 so no PPF. It stopped additional chips/scratches

I think this is sold both as an aftermarket addon, as well as some of the Tesla factories in the NW states just apply it (along with mudflaps) occasionally. Just like any PPF, you can remove it -- it is placed specifically to protect against rock chips from the front tire, which will preferentially hit that area. If the appeal is worse than the potential for rock chips in that spot to you, then take it off.

Yeah and it came with mud flaps. The color just drives me crazy. So I can just straight up peel it off? I just don’t want to mess up the paint under it

Look up a video first, but yes, it is fairly easy and straightforward. Usually, you just heat (with either water or a hairdryer) and then use a plastic scraper.

Ppf, the rear end is wide so it’s prone to damage from rocks being kicked up and such. Tesla started adding these panels to protect the paint.
Go ahead and peel them off if you want but you’re going to get some gnarly rock chips. You can get some aftermarket ones too.

Please keep it on your car. I don’t have them and have many rock chips in those areas due Tesla using thin paint in attempt to save money. Tesla is also aware that’s why they use to sell film for that area.

They are evidence that you’re going to be asking a lot of repetitive questions on this sub going forward, so let me help you…
1. Model Ys take the same wiper fluid as all other cars
2. Model Y windshields are the same as any other windshield if you get a crack.
3. Model Y tires can be patched if the nail isnt thru the sidewall.
4. If you get and ding or dent, file with insurance.
Hope this helps and please spare us basic questions going forward

Please refrain from doing so. Many people desire it and are willing to pay for it. It serves as a protective measure for your car paint and may prevent other potential issues. Simply leave it on.

Paint Protection Film
SUPER-NIINTENDO
2026-02-08 00:00
Paint Protection Film (PPF), or "clear bra," is a thermoplastic urethane film applied to vehicle surfaces to protect against rock chips, scratches, bug splatters, and UV damage. It features self-healing properties—where light scratches disappear with heat—and typically lasts 5–10 years. Professional installation is recommended, costing from hundreds to thousands depending on coverage.

You can remove it, but all that black filth you're seeing is just proof it's doing it's job, so it's not a bad idea to leave it there.
If you want new, take it to a tint/PPF shop and pay the guys to replace it, or look up some YouTube videos on how to remove and replace PPF, just make sure you buy quality film, or it's going to be off colored again in no time.

I got it on my 2024, was told at pickup that not every Tesla gets it, mostly ones destine for areas with inclement weather. I thought it was cool and was thrilled to see it.

I would certainly contact a local highly respected PPF/window tint company and pick their brain before following any advice here or on YouTube. They are experienced in installing and removing same.

They're like $50. You can either buy from Tesla or Amazon, Spigen offers it. You definitely want it. The first Y I bought ended up with tons of damage in that spot just over a year. I thought I'd be good since I bought mudflaps, nope. A lot of it was just chips but I had scrapes 2-3 inches long as well.
When I got my 25 I put this PPF on here as soon as I got home. It's just too cheap not to do it.
Just search Model Y quarter panel PPF.

It’s the part of the Y that sticks out and catches all the rocks and road debris. Those are PPF …added bonus if you ask me.

I’ve seen teslas without those and they get absolutely beat up horribly because it’s a spot where rocks fly up and hit that part of the panel. Keep it 100%, if you want it to blend in have the whole door wrapped.
