GEN 3 Wall Charger not connecting to Model Y. Pin engagement issue?

Peeerkulator | 2026-02-07 14:08 | 15 views

Just got a Gen 3 Tesla Wall Connector installed at home for my Model Y (which I’ve owned about a month and a half). Tried plugging in for the first time, and it seems like the charging pins aren’t engaging properly, no click and no charging. I can hear the pins try to engage over and over to failure. I’ve raised it with Tesla Service and am waiting on their response, but has anyone else experienced this? It definitely seems like a car-side issue, not the wall charger. Any advice or similar experiences? FYI charger is charging other Tesla‘s no problem. And to add, I am currently visiting the supercharger to charge with no issue.

Yes. Seems to be a mismatch on the plug casting locking pin holes. Same issue. Best answer seems to be to insert the charging cable and gently push to the left which should allow the locking pins to engage. I raised with Tesla support a few months ago but no response so only have the workaround so far.

Thanks! I’ve arranged a mobile service. Will keep you posted on what they say. Might help ye out also. Does yours engage to charge eventually?

Hey OP, please get in touch with Tesla Support (not service!). You might get a new WC.

Thanks. The wall charger looks to be working fine on another tesla we’ve tested on. Its like the Model Y mechanism is not biting and locking down on it. We’ll reach out to both i any case.

This worked! Thanks for the tip! Still a bit dodge that I need to slowly insert and pressure to the left but hey it works! 🙌🏻🥳
