Onion worthy headline.
Did it occur prior to buying that junk?

N=1 experiment fail.
Not much has been lost when she actually bought a Tesla in the first place.
This is how the robot revolution begins, sentient cars offing the scientists who helped create them
Seems like she already had heavy brain damage considering she bought a tesla.
De-railed.. by AI
Smart enough to be an AI scientist, still dumb enough to use FSD
If anyone read the article, she bought it in 2022, before Musk went full Nazi. Comments about being an idiot for buying a Tesla are just lazy when they're not even looking at the facts. One would think she would have a better risk assessment since she was in the field of AI and autonomous systems....but that's another question. This has the potential to be yet another major liability case for Tesla. Because of her field of work, one would presume she has a high salary so damages from missing work would be high. That might set the standard for payouts even higher for Tesla liability lawsuits.
“Movassaghi was rushed to an emergency room with a brain injury, according to the complaint. In addition to the failure of “various safety systems and subsystems” that did nothing to help Movassaghi avoid the crash, the complaint says the steering wheel airbag defectively deployed, exploding in Movassaghi’s face and covering her in microscopic toxic particles.” This seems pretty straightforward if she can show it led to brain injury.
He'd gone pretty mask off looney tunes by that time in my recollection.
Car radar (specifically mmWave radar) can technically detect objects or motion through thin, low-density materials like drywall or plywood, but it cannot see through dense materials like metal or thick concrete. While specialized "Through-the-Wall" (TTW) radar exists for law enforcement, standard automotive radar is designed to detect surface reflections
For those who don't bother to read the article, the other driver ran a red light. This is probably a case of big pockets opportunism.
Model Y doesn't use mmWave for self driving it uses Tesla Vision (cameras).
This article honestly seems like a nothing-burger to me. What they're asking for sounds like a magic device that can flawlessly anticipate every driver's actions and act preemptively even when it can't "see" them. As much as I like to shit on leon and tesla, it's up to the drivers to drive safely & clearly the other driver wasn't. These safety systems are nothing more than assists that, while can save your bacon, should not be relied on to do so.
Read the article
It took a few reads. Not sure if I have brain injury or the writer.
> This has the potential to be yet another major liability case for Tesla. Because of her field of work, one would presume she has a high salary so damages from missing work would be high. That might set the standard for payouts even higher for Tesla liability lawsuits. It has the potential to earn this person a settlement. That's it. Sorry but we're not going to fix the Musk problem (let alone the apocalyptic corporate take over of every level of society) with fines and lawsuits. Won't even put a dent in it.
It’s just a passing mention in the article, but it seems like the air bag was defective. Unclear if that’s what led to the injury. Otherwise, if she wasn’t using auto pilot, it does seem like this is solely on the other driver for running a red light.
complaint is BS, that's just how airbags work
yeah this part: "Flamiano described the layout of the intersection as having a building on one corner that rendered the Tesla’s cameras useless, but said radar is able to detect objects through walls and other solid objects" was wish-casting by the plaintiff's attorney; claiming 2022 Model Ys were recalled for a safety issue is similarly dubious to me. https://www.tesla.com/support/annual-and-recall-service
Probably a “AI prompt engineer” lol
ideally the car should have seen the danger and stopped to avoid it. if it can't do that it's got a crap camera layout.
plaintiff claim, not a 'seems' thing
So you are saying the airbags deployed correctly? How do you know that?
they're designed to literally explode in your face and the shit in them is "toxic"
Is that the primary intended function - explode in your face?
It’s not clear to me how even an ideal vehicle safety system is supposed to prevent one from being t-boned when a car in the intersecting lane runs a red light. That just seems unrealistic to me.
Yeah, the other driver ran the light. That's often not avoidable under any conditions depending on the timing. It's just another opportunistic shyster trying to exploit the one with the deepest pockets.

She was never a good AI scientist of she trusted Musk's FSD
Not sure what your point is here. It “seems” like it because that’s what is in the article. It’s not been proven or settled in court. I am purposely not using absolute language because I don’t know what happened.
lawyers are paid to lie so you can say the plaintiff lawyer claimed that, but it's not something that *prima facie* appears to be that.
Public wins at trial raise the standard for payouts, even for settlements. If lawyers sense blood in the water, every Tesla accident will be a lawsuit. While it won't take them down, it will drag on them.
The comments blaming the woman in here are pretty fucked up, y'all.
Big pockets opportunism is going to be the thing that kills Tesla, so I’m perfectly okay with it.
Death by 1000 cuts has to start somewhere.

Have you? They aren’t a party favor. They can explode and not function.
I read that as the airbag burst, not that it deployed as normal.
you’re being really weird about a perfectly reasonable use of the word SEEMS. Get well soon.
Not too smart for a scientist to use FSD....
yes, that appraisal is what the lawyer is trying to construct in your head. factually accurate, but misleading nonetheless, and your credulousness has thus done his work for him
A $3.5B payout would be $1/share. TSLA is up $8 today.
yeah her only failure is in believing Teslas could dodge cars coming at her. You hear a lot of influencer stories about that happening, but the car didn't prevent this accident like it theoretically could/should have.
Was it *really* dangerously defective, or is that just how the average Tesla lemon is designed and built?
but tesla bad😠
yeah, she got t-boned by someone not paying attention. not sure why this is at all tesla’s fault. if i got hit by a driver on my bike, i wouldn’t sue cannondale
that is NOT what the automatic systems are intended to avoid. there was zero autonomous operation happening here - there’s no AEB system that i’m aware of that will slam on the brakes if you’re about to get t-boned by someone running a red light
literally wasn’t using FSD, or self driving of any kind. she got t-boned, and is suing tesla because she got hurt. does anyone in this sub *ever* read the article anymore?
>there’s no AEB system that i’m aware of that will slam on the brakes if you’re about to get t-boned by someone running a red light any reason why not? The cameras are on ofc
I was about to say the same thing. The article seems basically written by her lawyer trying to get a bogus settlement. They said the camera collosion avoidance system didnt work because there was a building on the corner blocking the view. They claim that tesla was unsafe by not using a radar system, which they say can detect through walls. Obviously thats ridiculous and blatently false. I cant believe they would even put that in an article.
it’s just not designed to be looking for that. chances of that happening are way lower than, for instance, people not looking up and rear ending the car in front of them. it’s much more to protect others from your driving than it is to avoid an accident with a car that’s going to hit you out of nowhere. FWIW, FSD will generally stop for those kinds of scenarios when i use it, but not entirely consistent. and that’s a lot more complex of a system than AEB
She was probably smart enough to read articles before commenting on them though
well the company is worth $1.3T today, as a Model Y owner I wish they would add that . . . Elon abandoning A/P is a major driver of me moving to Rivian, along with his general Breivik-adjacency.
No! It's easier to talk shit that way
If you read the article you would know she wasnt using FSD. But this is reddit, so opinions before reading is par for the course. "Around11:30 p.m., as she crossed through an intersection in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood, a black Volkswagen Passat ran a red light and T-boned Movassaghi’s Tesla, ramming the passenger side of the car immediately behind the front wheel, the complaint states. The Tesla’s front and side airbags deployed, and both cars sustained significant damage." Her complaint is the Tesla collision avoidance system didnt help.
/r/leopardsatemyface
I don't think there are any car radars that point in any other direction than straight forward. And also no radar systems would be able to see a car through a building. The entire claim is nonsense.
This car got tagged in the right front, which is also where Tesla needs to add a camera so it can avoid this exact collision scenario
She has just signed up for neuralink's new 30 free trial.
Definitely written by AI. You can always tell when it says things like “This isn’t just A, it’s actually B”.
It is possible for automotive radar to see around corners. Not saying the current generation can do it, but it basically works by bouncing off everything nearby. Keyword is "NLOS".
Not smart enough to buy a car from a decent car manufacturer, though.
I agree that not having lidar is stupid but don’t know how lidar would have avoided this if she got Tboned on a green light which she had row.
but elon bad
And now Musk will propose a Neuralink implant for her, and claim she’ll have better performance than before the crash. :-D
One would think an AI engineer would be smart enough to trust AI, but apparently they all believe their own hype. I would argue the brain damage had to have occurred around the time they became an AI engineer.
Regardless car didn't seem to have provided very good crash protection, if anything she should have been greatful the car didn't lock her in and give a free cremation while she waited for help.
Meh. You could apply this for many cars out there
She got T-boned. So....
