Tesla hits trademark roadblock for ‘Cybercab’ due to squatter (and its own incompetence)

fau5tarp | 2026-01-05 21:56 | 544 views

Guess the next name before they do, then go out and snatch it up!

Not just a random or professional trademark squatter, a trademark squatter with a vendetta specifically against Tesla over their previous beverage dispute. Tesla could certainly pay them enough to swallow their pride, but that would entail Elon swallowing his own pride, so they could be at an impasse. It's another stupidly generic name that I think should be disallowed on its own merits anyway, so I hope it just never gets used by Tesla, but the squatting drama adds a feel-good twist to the story!

BringBackUsenet 2026-01-05 22:30

Haha. (Nelson voice)

BringBackUsenet 2026-01-05 22:31

He'll probably try to trademark taXi.

redgrandam 2026-01-05 22:33

Unibev should argue in court that they plan to buy a fleet of FSD Tesla’s and do their own ride sharing under that brand name/trademark. Since Tesla has told owners multiple times this is the future, they have good reason to argue in court they plan to do this. Rock solid argument right here!

torokunai 2026-01-05 22:38

cybertaxi is available

cheapotheclown 2026-01-05 22:38

I think naXi is available

fau5tarp 2026-01-05 22:41

muzzynat 2026-01-05 22:59

I…this is perfect

PossibleCash6092 2026-01-05 23:39

lol this happened at my company: a squatter had our company name on social media and it literally said, “I got this to sell.” It was my job to give him an offer. He wanted millions (we’re a small startup). I literally just recreated everything with a very slightly different wording and had our attorneys handle the rest. That’s what Elon should have done.

za72 2026-01-05 23:39

I knew it was just missing the secret ingredient

PossibleCash6092 2026-01-05 23:40

Also that’s why he has a model 3 instead of E, but in that case, it’s because ford owns the TM

Belgarablue 2026-01-05 23:42

CybeRoboDeathCab.com is also available.

Belgarablue 2026-01-05 23:43

That's for Optimus.

okokokoyeahright 2026-01-06 00:02

Seems about as solid as Leon's. and with a company that can actually make things.

okokokoyeahright 2026-01-06 00:03

X-Cab-8oobur. gotta remember the 12 YO in Leon.

CornerGasBrent 2026-01-06 00:20

> so they could be at an impasse. Settle it with iocane powder

WILL_THERE_BE_MATH 2026-01-06 00:23

Personally I’d go with TeXi (Tesla Taxi)

DamiensDelight 2026-01-06 00:25

>That’s what Elon should have done. No. A lobotomy is what Elon should have done.

TheRealCabbageJack 2026-01-06 00:27

I be Douche Coupe is still available.

torokunai 2026-01-06 00:29

I can see a game like Crazy Taxi where you're the last human taxi driver in a world of hostile cybertaxis LOL

PossibleCash6092 2026-01-06 00:31

It will work with ketamine

Kim_Jong_Un_PornOnly 2026-01-06 00:31

Why not just jump on "67", which will obviously be popular and relevant forever... call it the 6taxi7.

BringBackUsenet 2026-01-06 00:36

S3XY Cab. Pecker trails on the seat and all.

mdavis1926 2026-01-06 01:02

“Unless Tesla can pay off Unibev to abandon their claim, or successfully argue in court that a beverage company has no intent to build cars, they effectively cannot own the name “Cybercab.” Unibev should sell a Cabernet in a limited edition cyber-decanter. Problem solved.

rruusu 2026-01-06 01:05

Now that they've already attached the aura of dangerous low quality crap to vehicles starting with Cyber-, they would be pretty wise to rebrand anyway.

undergroundbastard 2026-01-06 02:49

🎼Little Douche Coupe … 🎶

fly1away 2026-01-06 02:55

I mean, "taxi" is a trademark violation, it has Elon's company's name in there! /s

BringBackUsenet 2026-01-06 03:31

Goober.

wniko 2026-01-06 04:04

Just call it a JohnnyCab instead.

lariojaalta890 2026-01-06 06:27

All so the models would spell S-E-X. He’s such a fucking child.

burner9752 2026-01-06 07:40

Sexy*

Withnail2019 2026-01-06 08:20

It will never exist as an actual product anyway, so no issues.

neonmantis 2026-01-06 09:14

I remember the cybercab event where they all pronounced that ludicrous robovan thing as ro-bove-van as someone already had the name to it.

SoupieLC 2026-01-06 09:52

Nah, Elon will be all over that in 5 years, when it's barely rememberable

slowmopete 2026-01-06 12:48

Unibev registered the name cybercab specifically in the vehicle category.

lariojaalta890 2026-01-06 14:00

Damnit. You are absolutely right

[deleted] 2026-01-06 14:24

TLDR: a tequila company BLOCKS THE NAME just like they block that idiotic "Teslaquila"\* \*(which Tesla, honest to god, wanted to use for their shitty tequila... < i cant imagine of a more cringe and dumb name if i drank ALL the alcohol there is) \--- Its yet unclear if they get money out of it, if that's the plan, but Elon is a cheap asshole. Tesla might just sue for the Cybercab name. Naturally is a matter of "who cares" since Elon can do whatever he wants. He does not own the STARSHIP trademark nor X... so.... \----- Not sure what to make of this. Still, so far, the ONLY effort anyone took to stop those deathtraps... Says a lot, America.

J_M 2026-01-06 19:01

"Call it whatever you want because it still aint coming"

Bravadette 2026-01-06 19:37

I would like to purchase Unibev's upcoming spicy cabernet.

practicaloppossum 2026-01-07 01:04

Why should Unibev do anything with cars? They're a beverage company. Undoubtably they're about to introduce CyberCab, the world's most sophisticated cabernet wine.

redgrandam 2026-01-07 01:06

That’s not what I’m saying. If there is ‘no intent’ to use the trademark they can have it taken away. This is a way for them to argue it’s plausible for them to use the trademark.

practicaloppossum 2026-01-07 01:09

Um, you do know that "cab" is a common shorthand among wine drinkers for cabernet wines, right? For a beverage company to argue they're going to introduce a beverage under that name is far more plausible than what you're suggesting.

ad-astra-specta 2026-01-07 03:30

Isn't that crowding in on the CuckTruck's territory?

looktothec00kie 2026-01-07 03:48

Elon has been slowly building up a tolerance to ketamine powder for several years.

ponewood 2026-01-07 04:20

Ketamine. I’d bet my life on it.
