There was a recent demo of a Tesla robot where it "removed its headset" then fell over, mirroring its operator taking off their headset and disconnecting. It was funny, but was also (another) clear example of how Tesla is not above pulling tricks to appear more advanced than they are.

No, this one appears to still be aiming for "before end of year" as he promised previously. Not that I believe it will happen, too much liability even with a remote operator. The timelines are the problem. Even if you believe Tesla will eventually get there, compressing expectations like this just erodes trust. Nobody in the AV space thinks regulatory clearance or hardware readiness is anywhere near “weeks.” The tech isn’t the bottleneck anymore; governance is.
