NHTSA - Still asleep at the wheel.

Optimal_Collection77 2025-12-04 21:39

I love the fact that they've spent time developing this and it's illegal everywhere!

steve0387 2025-12-04 21:40

I almost got rear ended by a dickwad in a tesla who was most likely on his phone. This doesnt inspire confidence. Fuck this asshole.

basedmfer 2025-12-04 21:43

did u know ford lets u drive 100mph in a school zone smh get those death traps off the road

Particular-Break-205 2025-12-04 21:44

I gladly change lanes if there’s a Tesla in front or behind me

TryIsntGoodEnough 2025-12-04 21:44

Nah musk stole their wheel and tried to replace it with the stupid yoke

DistributedView 2025-12-04 21:50

Can I now get sh!tfaced and let the car drive me home from the pub without getting in trouble with the cops? (Disclaimer I am currently sh!tfaced , but instead of FSD I bought a house within staggering distance from my house. )

ObviouslyJoking 2025-12-04 21:55

So what, Mad Max (speeding and aggressive driving)is illegal in all states.

Sphere_3N 2025-12-04 22:00

It will take one of the board members kids being struck and killed by a Tesla on FSD for that to change. Until then they turn a blind eye likely partly thanks to Elon’s large “donation” of $250M to Trump admin.

LaxBedroom 2025-12-04 22:00

I am glad your house is within staggering distance of your house.

Dapper_Pop9544 2025-12-04 22:01

I mean can we all be honest here.. you “can” text and drive in every single car on the road. It’s amusing how some are acting like this is crazy.

sneaky-pizza 2025-12-04 22:05

All states, right? I remember Arizona was the last to ban it cause they’re hilarious

gyozafish 2025-12-04 22:06

Every house is like that, … except maybe a tree-house

-Invalid_Selection- 2025-12-04 22:09

Good thing you got a house within staggering distance to your house. Wouldn't want you to get lost going from the kitchen to the bathroom

Bagafeet 2025-12-04 22:11

Yeah they adjust on their phones. It'll just make them more brazen.

Bagafeet 2025-12-04 22:13

Drunkenness checks out. I also like having my house close to my house.

DistributedView 2025-12-04 22:14

Lol - I did say I was sh!tfaced.... I did meant pub to house obvs 🤣 (Going to leave that in for the record - just in case I get so p!ssed and died getting giddy ordering a Robotaxi 50 meters to experience the utopia that is Tesla FSD while experiencing a firey death)

MacaroonDependent113 2025-12-04 22:23

Most cars can go 130 mph. Doesn’t mean you should do it. But if ever made legal then you can.

LokeCanada 2025-12-04 22:27

I hope your house is not like mine. Takes me 10 minutes to walk to the bar but 3 hours to get back home.

weaz-am-i 2025-12-04 22:31

Just like the cars with no steering wheels?

[deleted] 2025-12-04 22:37

He encouraged people to break the law.

sdc_is_safer 2025-12-04 22:54

You’re right. Musk should not be allowed to make such claims freely on social media without penalties or consequences

QVRedit 2025-12-04 23:07

He’s foolish to say so, since it could encourage illegal driving practices.

Belzebutt 2025-12-04 23:14

I can already do this using CarPlay on my 7 year old car. It reads texts and I can use voice to reply. Oh wait, Tesla doesn’t support CarPlay.

RoguePlanet2 2025-12-04 23:21

Putin is absolutely getting his money's worth out of this fucker. Soon it'll be "Libs Assigned Mandatory Teslas, Licenses Not Required."

Pdx_pops 2025-12-04 23:21

I don't need software or a Tesla to do this

Ok-Albatross899 2025-12-04 23:37

I can’t wait until the say “Elon Musk said” is widely ridiculed and a financial death sentence

tomdurk 2025-12-04 23:59

Felon Musk has never cared about the law.

outphase84 2025-12-05 00:04

If said dickwad had FSD on, he wouldn’t have almost rear ended you 🤷‍♂️

outphase84 2025-12-05 00:05

Teslas also read you texts and let you use voice to reply.

bbf_bbf 2025-12-05 00:15

I guess he means to actually pick up a phone and "type" in the screen. Since I've been able to "text" while driving using android auto and it reads my texts and I can respond by voice.

androvsky8bit 2025-12-05 00:33

Reading texts and responding with voice is built into the Tesla OS, it just needs a Bluetooth connection with a phone. Apparently people have some burning need to do it the more dangerous way. Emojis are hard to do with voice recognition I guess.

Belzebutt 2025-12-05 00:36

Would be nice if they just fixed the voice emojis. Sounds like a job for AI.

mrbuttsavage 2025-12-05 01:19

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restrictions_on_cell_phone_use_while_driving_in_the_United_States Great news for the people of Montana. Now you can legally be killed with FSD.

Lorax91 2025-12-05 01:37

>Can I now get sh!tfaced and let the car drive me home from the pub without getting in trouble with the cops? I already had an FSD user say on Reddit that he would absolutely let it drive him home if he was drunk. Which isn't really any different than the same person saying they're still sober enough to drive - because if anything goes wrong the results could be bad and he'd be liable.

[deleted] 2025-12-05 02:09

Lmao i almost get hit daily by people in ice cars texting.  This is not a tesla thing

BringBackUsenet 2025-12-05 02:10

Or paid off.

BringBackUsenet 2025-12-05 02:12

That is the real test of FSD. Until then it serves no purpose.

BringBackUsenet 2025-12-05 02:14

It doesn't mean some of us haven't gone that fast.

MacaroonDependent113 2025-12-05 02:17

But you chose to knowing it was against a law. Same with texting.

FitnessLover1998 2025-12-05 02:24

How about people just NOT read texts and freaking drive?

nolongerbanned99 2025-12-05 03:51

Reckless moron.

RagingDemonsNoDQ 2025-12-05 05:56

Oh lord. He already created some accidents with his lies about FSD. This will make it worse!

Sad-Introduction-783 2025-12-05 07:16

It should be illegal in ALL states.

hdmotorcycles 2025-12-05 07:28

They will worth the holiday update. Oh and the current system reads texts too. FSD is awesome I use it everyday, it drives 99% of the time.

ananasiegenjuice 2025-12-05 10:54

Even with some paint and a logo at the front, the Cybertruck still looks so dang ugly. What the heck did they think when coming up with that.

Schmich 2025-12-05 11:35

Am I reading it right? Many states allow it?

Schmich 2025-12-05 11:36

>But if ever made legal then you can. Autobahn has joined the chat.

MoleMoustache 2025-12-05 13:39

> sh!tfaced You can say shitfaced on the internet

nlaak 2025-12-05 14:57

> If said dickwad had FSD on, he wouldn’t have almost rear ended you I often wonder at how people ignore the realities of FSD so much. Are you an ostrich in the rest of your life?

nlaak 2025-12-05 14:58

> instead of FSD I bought a house within staggering distance from my house Or you could just drink at home, like many other alcoholics.

MacaroonDependent113 2025-12-05 15:10

Can you text on the autobahn while going 130?

Digg-Sucks 2025-12-05 16:16

Making a claim on social media is not the same as the company actually pushing a software update the allows drivers to break the law. He has been able to make all kinds of ridiculous claims on the Internet - the issue is this update (if true) is likely a violation of NTHSA standards and is enabling illegal behavior. If any other automaker did this it would be a huge controversy.

henlochimken 2025-12-05 17:54

This dickhead hasn't killed enough people yet, he needs to up those numbers. Even after everyone he killed and is killing by gutting USAID, he's not in the top 5 mass murderers, so he's gonna just keep pushing

techbunnyboy 2025-12-05 19:09

Ya you die it’s not mElons problem

Engunnear 2025-12-05 20:02

At least he didn’t tack an e on the end of shit. I don’t know why that irritates me so much, but it does.

MF48 2025-12-05 21:46

Why would anyone believe anything he says. Tell you what, Elon. You hop in a Tesla and make an hour trip letting your wonderful software drive while you text. Yeah, didn’t think so.

MisterSnuggles 2025-12-05 22:41

> […] which is illegal in most states Non-American here. How is it only illegal in most states?

Quirky_Tradition_806 2025-12-06 00:04

NHTSA. R.I.P. Thanks to DOGE

DistributedView 2025-12-06 00:22

Hmmm, I'm questioning so many life decisions at this point 🤣

WallabyInTraining 2025-12-06 11:53

>killed by a Tesla on FSD No worries, FSD disengaged two planck seconds before impact, so it's definitely driver error.

WallabyInTraining 2025-12-06 11:54

>I almost got rear ended That's an interesting was of saying you were not at all involved in an accident, but okay..

EatusBoletus 2025-12-06 13:06

Isn't this a non-sequitur. At least pick another illegal vehicle operation that involves not looking at where you are going.

Crutchduck 2025-12-06 13:35

Anything to boost sales

MacaroonDependent113 2025-12-06 14:03

Drunk driving

zeekayz 2025-12-06 19:07

He specifically bought the election to gut all the regulatory agencies. Then fucked off after no "waste" was found.

dub_soda 2025-12-07 18:40

We have reviewed our own proprietary data regarding the incident and concluded we are not at fault.

jermysteensydikpix 2025-12-07 19:14

Montana has no speed limit on highways during daylight. I assume this doesn't apply on stretches inside city limits but who knows.

reddit_equals_censor 2025-12-07 20:45

but don't worry not having a physically linked steering mechanism is great. we have seen its greatness in the airplane industry for ages! /s /s /s several major air plane incidents in civilian flights are linked to fly by wire. then again i am sure the company, that can't properly mount a gas pedal and design things to make it exactly get stuck in MAX SPEED knows how to create a steer by wire system, that lasts for 50 years at least right? without major failures right? /s /s there is of course also the option for a yoke with a mechanically linked steering, which as we know is also extremely dangerous, because the steering mechanism must require many turns to make tight turns, so that slight inputs at high speeds aren't dangerous. so now with a yoke it needs to still require several turns to steer at lower speeds, well at all speeds, but you mostly steer hard at lower speeds of course, but you CAN'T anymore, because there is no wheel to turn, so you can nicely grab emptiness instead :D very nice very smart let's go tesla! /s /s \_\_\_\_ just as some background the argument gets made for very big planes, that mechanically linked flight surfaces wouldn't matter with those giant planes anyways, as the forces are too big, i don't know the math, but trying to fight with a yoke after failure of the electronic systems, that make it easy to use before the failure is certainly preferred to trying to land a plane with 0 control about ANY flight control surfaces and only controlling the plane by controlling the engine power. also yes that exact case happened with flight 232, a great video on that: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=099cHWSbAL8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=099cHWSbAL8)

reddit_equals_censor 2025-12-07 20:51

a strong argument should be made, that a car should ABSOLUTELY NOT spy on the driver. and a driver attention system can be put in, that does not spy on the driver btw with 0 network connections or storage if you're wondering. if it has storage, then that becomes a fundamental privacy issue instead. if the choice is between a SPYING camera in the car, that checks if you use a phone or not and NO camera, that spies on you and thus no tracking of whether or not you pay attention, the 2. option is prefered, because privacy is WAY more crucial. however that choice isn't needed, because again we have systems, that check driver attention without spying on the users. just to be clear the car companies ABSOLUTELY want to spy on everything you do and they sell tons of data. keeping all this context in mind is important. as tesla DOES spy on everything you do. and now elmo is talking about spying on people and letting people use a phone while driving the child murdering death machines in its fake "self driving" mode. so this is complete and absolute insanity, but please don't forget the privacy argument of not tracking drivers.

Substantial-Rise1662 2025-12-08 01:37

Yeah Elon and I did the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs (units of distance btw). I am also strong in the force. Untrained but stronger than I know.

Substantial-Rise1662 2025-12-08 01:38

Witness me! \*proceeds to burst into flames\*

theindus 2025-12-08 12:24

On the road to autonomous driving with only cameras and without Radar, LiDAR or ultrasonic sensors, many will die. Elon Musk is willing to make that sacrifice while being chauffeured around by humans.

Content_Log1708 2025-12-10 22:50

He's beta testing software on unsuspecting drivers and everyone else on the roads.
