Model Y program head also quits

Kindly-Web3356 | 2025-11-10 15:36 | 372 views

Wondering why this isn’t getting as much footage as the Cybertruck guy quitting. The Cybertruck program is a liability anyway. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/emmanuel-lamacchia_after-8-incredible-years-im-moving-on-from-activity-7393504906365661185-dQbD?utm_medium=ios_app&rcm=ACoAAArFcssBscN0wPmdLuf7U-zLhXYvn9TX3XA&utm_source=social_share_send&utm_campaign=copy_link

When your boss sends a message that it’s not a car company anymore, these things should be expected. It’s burgers and robots from here on out 🍔🤖

He’s at a bare minimum the same level as the other Cybertruck + M3 program manager who quit. That’s making big news so I thought this is worth sharing as well.

Engunnear 2025-11-10 15:55

Eh… I’ve known a couple of vehicle managers at Legacy OEMs, and their next stop on the advancement ladder was a VP position.

dtyamada 2025-11-10 16:20

Timing maybe? If the CT guy left first they probably picked up on it and haven't picked up on this yet. Also, once one outlet reports on it, all the others want to follow suit.

dtyamada 2025-11-10 16:20

Also, articles on the CT probably get more clicks than the Model Y.

Lopsided_Quarter_931 2025-11-10 16:26

How many Model Y program managers are there? "Leading the All-New Model Y launch was the highlight" Sound to me like this was a key person.

Hinterwaeldler-83 2025-11-10 16:41

Less cars is good for Tesla because now they have more capacity for Optimus Bots or something like that. Bullish.

Durzel 2025-11-10 16:58

Stock up on the news. Pretty funny if it’s a belief by shareholders that the Cybertruck guy departing means the company won’t be forced to make unprofitable crap at the whim of the CEO anymore.

Curious_Lynx7252 2025-11-10 16:59

The smartest people don't to work at Tesla anymore. The stock options they get are pretty much worthless and the CEO has extreme political views, which half of the employees won't like. Tesla is done.

Kindly-Web3356 2025-11-10 16:59

Typically, one. Tesla has a vehicle programs team with one person leading each model, and a small to mid sized team reporting into them. It’s not a Director/ VP level position, but it is very important, as they lead cross functional relationships and tradeoffs with other departments, and also chart out the sales projections for the model. They’re responsible for the overall trajectory and success (or failure) of the model. So for e.g., if you’re proposing investing $xxxM into a MY revamp, you expect future sales to rise by xx, to justify the investment. The Vehicle Program Manager signs off on that.

Elon Musk watched "Coming to America" the other day, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time before he opens a chain of restaurants called "McDowell's"; a name he came up completely on his own because he's a genius.

VTAffordablePaintbal 2025-11-10 17:10

But if they make fewer cars how are they going to get free computing capacity from idle Teslas to run the Optimus bots?

palopp 2025-11-10 17:11

When my last company didn’t include a single slide on its core product that I was working on in the presentation on the path forward, I knew where things were heading. It took a bit longer than I expected, but approximately 1 year after I left the whole company imploded. The software team gone. The core product spun off and sold as is with no further development. The company name was retained by the founder for further fundraising for film-flam projects that can never work, but tailor made with enough buzzwords to attract even more VC.

torokunai 2025-11-10 17:45

I got the clue in 2008 when they made a "Core Team" and I wasn't on it : )

[deleted] 2025-11-10 17:48

I had forgotten about the cafe. Is that thing still open? I also vaguely remember the Boring Company and the Hyperloop thing, also the flame thrower. So much concentration on the car business, not.

zitrored 2025-11-10 18:01

The recent approval of his “pay for performance” package should tell you all you need to know now. Two goals 1-sell a low bar annual amount of cars (any price) and keep pumping the stock price (manipulation and intentional BS).

Seaker42 2025-11-10 18:15

He was there for 8 years, so it could just be that he wants to take a break or do something else now.

LoomingDementia 2025-11-10 18:15

Why would they need that computing capacity? Having a guy in the back room with a remote control unit doesn't require much computing power.

TheInternetsLOL 2025-11-10 18:21

Eh, not like they having anything "new" coming in the next decade. Same shit, with a new hat. On top of that, it's only 2 cars that sells for them.

SundayAMFN 2025-11-10 18:45

Would be funny, but it's a belief by shareholders that the share price will go up.

sidc42 2025-11-10 18:49

Thing is, this isn't exactly GM or Volkswagen. They only have 5 models and I'd be surprised if the S/X didn't share one person as they are very low volume sales that I believe are now only being made for North America thanks to tarrifs/retaliatory tarrifs. So with the CyberTruck and Model Y people leaving, that probably leaves them with just two people in that position (3 and S/X).

Puzzleheaded-Ring293 2025-11-10 18:56

They buy it from SpaceX! Corporate incest is in.

brintoul 2025-11-10 18:59

It’s insight like this that keeps me going.

brintoul 2025-11-10 18:59

Waaaay in and has been for years.

rom846 2025-11-10 19:01

Nah, he would call it either BurgerX or XBurger.

Puzzleheaded-Ring293 2025-11-10 19:05

We are in corporate Habsburg jaw terrain.

pb_syr 2025-11-10 19:06

Another casualty of the trillion dollar pay package.

BringBackUsenet 2025-11-10 19:08

He'll never be able to pull off Eddie Murphy's laugh.

BringBackUsenet 2025-11-10 19:09

FoodX. Everything will be made from the Full Self Cooking technology developed for the CyberToaster.

Engunnear 2025-11-10 19:10

Because it’s fun to take what Tesla said one week and use it to call them out on the next week’s bullshit.

BringBackUsenet 2025-11-10 19:14

It's good that the pressing is at least starting to focus more on the negative things going on rather than pumping.

Phyllis_Tine 2025-11-10 19:14

The backdoor Le Hackr Leon wrote in his big beautiful code is going to let Musk use all Tesslers as a hive mind to run Optimus, during downtime from mining Bitcoin, obvi! /s

Phyllis_Tine 2025-11-10 19:16

Ooh, I read about this company in Cory Doctorow's "radicalized"! Toast will be by subscription, right?

BringBackUsenet 2025-11-10 19:16

I'm sure there will be plenty of new lies. In 10 years they'll be talking about the Electric Hyperloop to Alpha Centauri or something like that.

Phyllis_Tine 2025-11-10 19:17

Whoever was ordered to design a new vehicle simply took a photo of a Model 3 and dragged it vertically, not from the corner. The Model Y looks like a taller version of the 3, and somehow even more bland.

VitaminPb 2025-11-10 19:32

Thrusters deep, as it were. And with chopsticks to hold it upright…

qainspector89 2025-11-10 19:53

Robots that flail around All that time and development...all they do is dance and pose

TheFoxsWeddingTarot 2025-11-10 20:19

I think people were just surprised to find that there WAS a head of the Cybertruck, seemed like a 100% musk fever dream.

Youngnathan2011 2025-11-10 21:00

Swear everyone important to the company is leaving, but the most useless one is staying and somehow deserves $1 trillion.

Fireefury 2025-11-10 21:20

Every payday / windfall he’s gained has basically been used to develop some new tech or company. Also the trillion amount being bantered about assumes insane growth and profitability for shareholders. I have no idea if he’ll succeed or if the company will continue to make great cars, but I’m pretty confident whatever money he makes will be put to productive technological use

balemo7967 2025-11-10 21:55

this is actually a bullish signal because of reasons

MoleMoustache 2025-11-10 22:13

Fewer, not less.

[deleted] 2025-11-10 22:37

I heard they were going to make sex robots or maybe that was about an AI chat company (or all of them) allowing people to get all frisky with them. The lowest common denominator and money making scheme will win out. Mostly though they sell an incredible amount of hype. It is really something. I wish they would use that power for good.

SackofBawbags 2025-11-10 23:26

What was it like working at SpaceX?

[deleted] 2025-11-11 02:04

They got their stock vested and sold, they have no skin in the game. Everyone is about to find out what their diamond hands are made of.

Lower_Comfortable393 2025-11-11 02:17

So close. BurgersX.

za72 2025-11-11 03:05

Next stop skynet baby!

Alarming_Jacket3876 2025-11-11 06:11

It's crazy. Tesla had.gross sales of $94 billion last year. If musk meets the targets for his bonus then his average pay for each of the next 10 years will be more than the total revenue of Tesla. If it doesn't meet its target then it's going to collapse. This is a no win for shareholders.

[deleted] 2025-11-11 08:31

Shhh. They are not in trouble. Keep your voice down ;)

FoodX is what we sent the new people to find in the basement store room at the [first restaurant](http://first.restaurant) I worked at (in the late 80s).

y4udothistome 2025-11-11 15:17

Nice

toboyd 2025-11-11 15:45

No, but he has come very close to Dr Evil’s and can now say “one trillion dollars” afterwards

easy8888888 2025-11-11 16:05

Tesla has never been a car company, always been a tech company first.

fishsticklovematters 2025-11-12 18:32

Did they suddenly add a focus on crypto? This feels like (Micro)Strategy.

palopp 2025-11-12 20:41

Nope. Started out making hardware for manufacturing and had a pretty good nice product that was very well received and growing market share. When fundraising ran dry they pivoted on a dime into a fantasy AI product to drain money from more dumb investors. In between, they had a foray into another hype industry as well with plenty of financial shenanigans. Very interesting times, but the people working on implementing all this nonsense was quite good and very dedicated. Truly enjoyed my time there. In the end I learned that to conduct a good scam, you do need to hire a bunch of people believing in the scam product to really sell the theater to the investors.

Affectionate_One7558 2025-11-13 14:04

Project leads were expecting big payout via shares in the future. Elon will consume more of the share base. Nothing left for the "little people."
