And to get it again you’re forced to pay for FSD. A software limitation for something that’s standard in basically every car for this price

yamirzmmdx 2025-10-08 00:54

Tesla is really just DLC cars. At least when I see my poverty buttons I can be sure there is nothing there.

herewego199209 2025-10-08 01:07

So wait do they advertise this when you buy the model 3 or Y? This is a pretty big reason most people buy Tesla's?

RipWhenDamageTaken 2025-10-08 01:24

A Hyundai 10,000 cheaper has this btw

Pitiful_Difficulty_3 2025-10-08 01:24

Even my RAV4 has lane centering lol

Secret_aspirin 2025-10-08 01:32

A base Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has lane centering.

stillavoidingthejvm 2025-10-08 01:42

RAV4 is an awesome vehicle. I'd buy 10 RAV4 before accepting a bribe to take a Tesla anything

love-broker 2025-10-08 02:11

This won't be good for the brand.

wootnootlol 2025-10-08 02:12

That’s the thinking that’s worth $1T.

InfluenceEastern9526 2025-10-08 02:29

Standard on most Toyota hybrids. Self charging electrics.

One-Sundae-2711 2025-10-08 02:38

the tesla lane hold is sweet. i sold my teslas but if i had the option for a simple lane hold for road trips that would be great! forget all the stupid fsd autowipe phantom crap the lane hold was really well done. uncouple the good parts and remove the crap.

Mr-Zappy 2025-10-08 02:50

I’m pretty sure it was standard in vehicles $10k less / 5 years ago.

Aromatic_Base_3749 2025-10-08 02:51

Want windows that open? Get the Windows option. Want to close them again? Upgrade to Windows Premium.

Youngnathan2011 2025-10-08 02:52

Was standard in the $35k AUD ute I drove for work a couple years ago. That thing was from 2021. Worked pretty well for the long ass 4-6 hour trips I did sometimes.

Astro_Afro1886 2025-10-08 02:52

So what you're saying is that these are perfect for using Open Pilot and Comma AI.

FelixtheFarmer 2025-10-08 03:16

Even more reason to buy a car from a different manufacturer. One that doesn't have a full on white supremacist nazi for a leader

Online_Ennui 2025-10-08 03:20

When you do an update, the window goes up like a progress bar

stevey_frac 2025-10-08 03:22

Eww.  No.  Buy a decent car.

Unfortunately Hyundai is just a car company, unlike Tesla which is a “tech company”

torokunai 2025-10-08 06:15

If Elon had any functioning neurons left he'd fork off $200B market cap and merge with Toyota, giving him his exit from his living hell.

torokunai 2025-10-08 06:18

yup, I drove the 1,500 miles to Dallas for the eclipse and my Model Y's AP was good enough, even tho I had free FSD for a month then. Prefer the better speed control of AP, and FSD is still regressing in that area apparently.

Complete_Item9216 2025-10-08 06:41

I believe this is a mid size SUV (considered almost full size in Europe). It would likely be several categories above Tesla in the price range in the rental companies using their logic.

DistributedView 2025-10-08 06:42

So Tesla is pulling stupid stunts like steel vs aluminum bonnets, and no radios to shave pennies off the build cost, while still putting $000s of dollars worth of cameras and AI gear into all the cars which are switched off via software. Next level genius.

DistributedView 2025-10-08 06:53

It's a side effect of EU homologation rules. It's basically mandated here for all new cars. That also means this particular feature delete won't apply if they try and offer this outside the US. All seems very half baked to me.

Pixel91 2025-10-08 07:13

You can probably thank the EU for that. It's a mandated feature here and it's most likely cheaper to just bake it into every car than faff around with X versions.

ExcitingMeet2443 2025-10-08 07:22

My 2017 Ioniq EV has lane centering but not phantom braking 🤗

[deleted] 2025-10-08 07:23

Poverty buttoned in a Porsche are a laugh riot.

Secret_aspirin 2025-10-08 07:25

It costs just over half the price of the new Teslas announced where I live.

Complete_Item9216 2025-10-08 07:43

I would expect rental companies getting higher rate for them compared to Tesla. Anyway it’s a more practical and better overall car money aside. It’s ridiculous that people Tesla has a future as a car company,

[deleted] 2025-10-08 08:36

"Anyone can make a car cheaper by making it worse!"  Elon - talking about other car brands.

rruusu 2025-10-08 09:37

They likely want to either pressure people to opt for FSD, or protect the resale value of earlier model versions, or both. Anyway, it doesn’t give a good impression of them.

MonsieurReynard 2025-10-08 12:30

Well yesterday it fell 4%

MonsieurReynard 2025-10-08 12:32

What makes you think Toyota would bite on that apple? They’re enjoying their best sales ever right now, and are having a a very profitable year despite the tariff madness. They just have to wait. Toyota always wins.

MindStalker 2025-10-08 12:51

It also has no seat physical controls, you must adjust them from the screen.

UngusChungus94 2025-10-08 13:16

Toyota would be like "lmao, no". They're playing the long game.

The_JSC 2025-10-08 13:44

> All seems very half baked to me. The true hallmark of a new Tesla feature!

Irishspringtime 2025-10-08 13:53

So no lane centering and no auto steer? That's just stupid, as is the removal of the seat adjusters. I mean, ok, remove the passenger seat adjustments and move those to the screen but the driver's seat??

ReportMany2628 2025-10-08 14:06

Literally no reason to buy one of these instead of a used model 3/Y

I-Pacer 2025-10-08 17:44

You’re confusing the two different lane keeping technologies. The one that is EU mandated is Emergency Lane Keep Assist which just warns you if you are about to depart your lane without the indicators on. Lane centring is the level 2 ADAS system which can be used to keep the car centred in its lane whilst using adaptive cruise control. That one is not EU mandated.

DistributedView 2025-10-08 21:31

Not confused..

I-Pacer 2025-10-08 21:58

Then why would a feature delete that isn’t a mandated feature in the EU not be permitted in the EU? I genuinely think you’re confusing the two different forms of lane keeping. The one Tesla has removed is the steering part of so-called “Autopilot”, not the one that tries to push you back into your lane if you accidentally drift out of it.

AgentSmith187 2025-10-09 08:04

I mean they only "self charge" if you first use petrol to get them moving and then use the brakes. BEVs do the same trick when you brake too.

DistributedView 2025-10-09 08:07

LDWS: Lane departure warning system (the annoying bongs when you cross a line) CDCF: Corrective directional control function is the other (the steering part). ELKS requires both (unless the car has hydraulic power steering) Pretty much every car manufacturers saw this legislation coming and just paid MobilEye for their system (including Tesla). Tesla then disabled the safety systems in the MobilEye stuff to force the CDCF to be permanently on at the P85D launch (something they did because they were so far behind on the X at the time and wanted the hype of pretending the car could drive itself). However going back to my original assertion. The reason we have lane keep systems in even the cheapest Dacia, is like airbags, or seatbelts before that, most "features" in modern cars are regulation driven. (Including electrification) In this case, once you have CDCF, lane keep is a zero cost BOM item, as Tesla so aptly demonstrated back in 2014.

DistributedView 2025-10-09 11:22

Toyota already sold all their Tesla holdings. They and Daimler were early round investors in Tesla. Not only did they give Tesla money, their engineers were instrumental in the production design of the Model S. Daimler engineers on sabbatical did a lot of the heavy lifting in the actual Model S engineering design. (Everything apart from the BMS and infotainment). The Model S is still arguably the best car Tesla has ever released and the irony is a lot of that was due to Daimler and Toyota's involvement. (Henrik Fisher's design flair didn't hurt either!)

torokunai 2025-10-09 12:43

yeah I had a friend get the $50k Rav4 Tesla compliance mashup and it was a great car. 40kWh RWD IIC. That was where I was going with this, I think Toyota has great ID across the board (and that dealer network), while Tesla is not really a good car company, Elon's heart really isn't in it anymore.

skredditt 2025-10-09 13:56

In a decade have these vehicles changed at all other than dropping features?

InfluenceEastern9526 2025-10-10 01:50

Teslas charge from external energy from the grid, and are also dependent on fossil fuel power generation. They won't move unless you use external power to get them moving.

AgentSmith187 2025-10-10 02:09

BEVs need electricty wow a novel idea! They dont necessarily need grid energy from fossil fuels by the way. Mine charged today purely from solar power off my roof. That same solar system now the car is charged is busy exporting power to the grid and charging my home storage depending on prices available. Oh and your average fossil fuel power stations is a LOT more efficient than an internal combustion engine.

immoralwalrus 2025-10-11 09:24

A sub 10k Wuling has line centring.
