That should send the stock up to about $900 a share.

JJonVinyl 2025-08-22 16:41

With the 100’s of millions of dollars of cybertruck inventory just sitting there, you would think the smart thing to do is lower the cost, increase incentives, and get folks into the Tesla ecosystem, even if it’s barely profitable Rivian sells their trucks at a loss so idk what they’re thinking at this point

Mdlage 2025-08-22 16:46

Raising the price sometimes makes goods more attractive as they are viewed as higher quality and more aspirationally desirable.  The cyber truck is already an “aspirational” vehicles that your normal person isn’t out here just buying as their sensible normal everyday vehicle.

Spottswoodeforgod 2025-08-22 16:46

No, no, no. This why you aren’t a billionaire. If you have 10,000 unsold units and you then say they each are worth $15,000 more, your total worth goes up by $150,000,000!!! Or something like that…

DeliciousAges 2025-08-22 16:46

Elon Musk is losing it. First NOT selling the larger Model YL version in the US (that one would sell well in the US) anytime soon, then increase the price of the model that doesn’t sell!? https://electrek.co/2025/08/20/elon-musk-tesla-might-never-bring-its-new-model-yl-to-us-reason-stupid/ Simply stupid, there’s no other verdict. And the shareholders still want to give him billions in bonus payments for these moronic decisions!?

Tall_Category_304 2025-08-22 16:47

So he can sell them to the government at a higher price I’m sure

tomdurk 2025-08-22 16:51

Just raising the price so he can profit from selling them to the Air Force for target practice? I wish I was kidding

Opting_out_again 2025-08-22 16:55

It's probably an accounting trick. Raise the price so that when you write them off as a loss, you get a bigger credit . To me- this is a sign of giving up on ever selling them to the public. Or maybe our King has the "government" buy them.

[deleted] 2025-08-22 16:56

Imagine if Tesla had put all this energy into developing and releasing an electric competitor for the Toyota Hilux. Smaller pickups are a completely underserved market in the U.S. Prices for used ones are insane. An electric version of a reasonably sized pickup would probably sell like crazy. Alas, we don’t live in a world where Tesla has sane leadership.

hotsexyman 2025-08-22 16:59

This is the reason. Incoming government contract in 1,2,3...

RocketLabBeatsSpaceX 2025-08-22 17:01

You’re the new cfo, congratulations

melanthius 2025-08-22 17:02

That sweet sweet insurance money when they all mysteriously sink on a boat headed to foreign customers

EarthConservation 2025-08-22 17:06

Did they realize only investors are buying it, and will pay any amount for any Tesla product?

PedestrianCyclist 2025-08-22 17:10

Cyber Truck = Arsepirational

[deleted] 2025-08-22 17:12

“Aspirational” LOL!!

y4udothistome 2025-08-22 17:21

Make sure you rinse after you swallow

mustangfan12 2025-08-22 17:21

The YL honestly isnt a good car. The coupe SUV body style just doesn't work for 3 row SUVs. The 3rd rows look uncomfortable based on a video I saw, they had to make the seats really low and it's an unnatural siting position for any 3rd row passenger as a result. Your head is also hitting against the glass. Looks wise its just a stretched Model Y. Very low effort car

JJonVinyl 2025-08-22 17:26

Apparently I’m too logical to be a CEO billionaire 😭

Fuzzy_Inevitable9748 2025-08-22 17:28

Damn dumping a whole cargo ship full of lithium batteries into the ocean is some evil dystopian level shit. I am willing to bet this happens before Elon delivers FSD, or puts a single person on Mars, or the hyper loop which he claimed he could build for 1/10 the cost of high speed rail, or a semi that’s cheaper then rail.

Emergency_Property_2 2025-08-22 17:33

Elon is playing five dimensional Hot Wheels on a Thomas the Steam Engine track. He’s obviously not off the Ketamine.

TheMegaDriver2 2025-08-22 17:39

Just buy and hodl! - Elon simps Someone has to buy the stonks the Tesla board has been dumping after all! /s

Thomas9002 2025-08-22 17:43

in before Musk says they "factory gated" billions of dollars of inventory

Darmok47 2025-08-22 17:50

Tesla was maybe an aspirational brand a decade ago. Not anymore.

McGillicuddys 2025-08-22 17:53

Musk might be working on a deal to sell them to the US at MSRP now that he's back to palling around with Vance. ICE needs to update their vehicle fleet for all their new agents.

sidc42 2025-08-22 17:54

Surprisingly, raising the price makes sense. It's a polarizing vehicle like no other so at this stage in the game price no longer matters; People are either still dying to own one or wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole. Not a lot of in-between. That means dropping the price a few thousand dollars isn't going to change the opinions of the people in this slightly lower price range who could now afford it but still wouldn't be caught dead in one. Of the "still dying to own one" crowd, the vast majority of those people wouldn't be able to afford one even if they dropped the price to $40k, but also they want it BECAUSE they view it as something that says, "LOOK AT ME!! I can afford this expensive vehicle!!" As such, dropping the price will actually turn the few thousands of those people that are close to affording one away because it becomes less aspirational and more common. Having a top end over $100k is a strong psychological factor and the people saving up to "get the best one," well, might as well milk them for everything you can... Don't forget, Tesla doesn't have to behave like a normal car company and clear out inventory because their stock price gives them the luxury of wasting money. Regardless of what sales actually are this is a company that can't afford to admit failure or defeat because everything is about keeping the stock price high. A more likely solution for them would be to turn manufacturing down to a trickle so if you're only selling a few thousand a quarter you'd still be denting that inventory and then quietly discontinue it when inventory is almost gone while rewriting history saying they always intended on it to sell in limited numbers like a Ferrari or Porsche. Realize the amount of vehicles they're burning through is higher than the actual sales number because of warranty replacements, so the longer they hold off on discontinuing it the longer and slower they can quietly write off losses associated with it through things like vehicles taken back because of issues vs. a big attention getting, news producing radical price drop to clear out inventory.

Mdlage 2025-08-22 17:57

The model 3 isn’t. It’s in line with a loaded Camry now.  The cyber truck is something I, as someone who makes more than 50% over the national average house hold income, as one single person in a lcol area even, could never realistically afford to own.

cursedfan 2025-08-22 18:12

The demand that is there is not sensitive to price

JohnHazardWandering 2025-08-22 18:25

For weird MAGA fans it is. Not a lot of pro EV MAGA fans with that much money.

cypressgreen 2025-08-22 18:27

> Supercharging Charge for free at 70,000+ Superchargers worldwide. You are still responsible for Supercharger fees, like idle and congestion fees, when applicable. May only be redeemed at Tesla-owned Superchargers. Cannot be used for commercial purposes (e.g., taxi, rideshare or delivery services). If Tesla determines in good faith at its sole discretion that the vehicle is being used for commercial purposes, Tesla may remove the free Supercharging from the vehicle. The vehicle will then default to Pay Per Use Supercharging. Not transferable to subsequent vehicle owners or to another vehicle. In other words, it’s probably in the fine print when you bought the car that they can spy on you at any time and if they see you’re visiting a lot of restaurants and then many stops, they will cut you off. They can even confirm by accessing your cameras. [Tesla employees have already been found spying on customers through the cameras; obviously this feature can be accessed by any joe shmow Tesla worker with no oversight.](https://www.reuters.com/technology/tesla-workers-shared-sensitive-images-recorded-by-customer-cars-2023-04-06/) And they [know and have hidden from attorneys and the court data sent by a car involved in a fatal crash, data sent to Tesla within 3 minutes of said incident.](https://electrek.co/2025/08/04/tesla-withheld-data-lied-misdirected-police-plaintiffs-avoid-blame-autopilot-crash/)

SolutionWarm6576 2025-08-22 18:30

Up 18 USD TODAY. Lol.

Pancheel 2025-08-22 18:38

aspirational adjective UK "[showing](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/es/diccionario/ingles/showing) that you [want](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/es/diccionario/ingles/want) to have more [money](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/es/diccionario/ingles/money) and a [higher](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/es/diccionario/ingles/higher) [social](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/es/diccionario/ingles/social) [position](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/es/diccionario/ingles/position) than you now have" Some people see the expensive and now more expensive! dumpster on wheels and believe it's awesome and costly and if they could get one they would be winners. That makes the trademark more cool for those people... but the quality of the product is still bad and it isn't selling well and the company is going to lose money soon, so this strategy seems pointless, maybe they will make a announcement "now cybertruck with a 10% discount!" or something so the aspirational lads will finally take a loan to buy a cybertruck "now it's their chance!!"

appmapper 2025-08-22 19:22

Not sure if this is what's going on but... They might be attempting to bolster market value/net realizable value to avoid have to write down the lower value on their balance sheet.

Opcn 2025-08-22 19:58

Clearly they are raising the price because demand is to the moon.

Secularnirvana 2025-08-22 20:50

Honestly think this is about future sales to government, so inflate price now to justify a bigger price tag

North-Outside-5815 2025-08-22 21:18

Tesla is all about low effort now in the endgame. Last pump and dump cycles before they leave the tubes holding the bag.

DreadpirateBG 2025-08-22 21:30

Are they at least addressing issues customers have had and issues preventing sales in the EU?

RichardKickHarumbi 2025-08-22 21:35

I'd buy one for like 6k cash rn, but that's a generous offer and they should accept it.

fedup-withtrump 2025-08-22 21:41

Good, that vile vehicle needs to go down in flames, which it often does come to think of it.

Hadleys158 2025-08-22 21:51

I wonder if it is tariffs doing this? They probably thought they could make it cheaper by making a lot of it in china and then the tariffs hit?

AsH83 2025-08-22 22:02

Yeah pretty much milk their fans by calling it Luxe package. 🤷🏻‍♂️

rruusu 2025-08-22 23:23

Note that all the items in the "Luxe package" are immaterial service contracts. I have the feeling that this is a last gasp attempt to write up the book value of their unsold inventory. After all, those vehicles are now much more valuable, as they all now suddenly include that mandatory "package." I.e. it's a last desperate effort to cook the books?

sugardaddyxyz 2025-08-22 23:38

More stock manipulation. Gullible fools on Wall Street will take that as a signal of increased demand.

IIIBl1nDIII 2025-08-23 00:12

It's cuz he's selling them to the government for target practice

CarnotaurusJP 2025-08-23 00:25

ROFL I just got banned on [r/teslastockholders](https://www.reddit.com/r/teslastockholders/) for commenting "The cybertrucks aren't selling... I know! Let's increase the price by adding more "luxury" package!! Wow the ideas are flowing!!! Retards!!!" I guess the mods there don't agree that it's retarded to raise the price when the cybertrucks aren't selling!!

lelarentaka 2025-08-23 00:30

It is radar stealth due to the angled plates

friendIdiglove 2025-08-23 01:16

“Hello, facilities? Yes, we have a new hire, please get this person their corner office and paper shredder.”

big_trike 2025-08-23 02:17

They also work well as incendiary devices

FlyingArdilla 2025-08-23 02:42

Some of the shipping carriers are not taking ev's anymore because of several lithium fires on ships recently.

Xollector 2025-08-23 04:31

Of course. Make it more expensive before selling it to defense department for missile practice

Dharmaniac 2025-08-23 04:44

Oh no! I waited to pull the trigger on this iconic American car, now this! Actually, no, it’s an iconic intergalactic car. When the history of the galaxy is written. The cyber truck will be seen as a turning point, and I don’t want to be left behind. I’ll go buy one tomorrow before the price goes up even more

balemo7967 2025-08-23 07:27

Interestingly, on the balance sheet, unsold Cybertrucks are valued the same as sold ones at their respective sale prices. This means that increasing the sales price also increases the value of the unsold inventory, effectively generating income through what's called amortization. It's kind of the opposite of depreciation

JJonVinyl 2025-08-23 07:39

Fudging numbers sounds about right

Sharkwatcher314 2025-08-23 12:14

I mean it’s only logical

No-Spite4464 2025-08-23 13:23

Have you seen the slate truck? It’s exactly what you want

BrainwashedHuman 2025-08-23 13:23

I hate this comment because you’re probably right.

SplitEar 2025-08-23 21:28

I’ve seen reports that the army will buy Cybertrucks for target practice so that’s another reason for Musk to raise the price.

FrogmanKouki 2025-08-24 13:34

And Ford plans to release a direct competitor to the Slate, at least near the price point. Ford announced a midsize EV truck starting at 30k coming in 2028.

javlin_101 2025-08-25 03:29

They also would have been able to sell it in markets outside the US like the EU and China.

javlin_101 2025-08-25 03:49

Otherwise known as the Nissan GTR strategy. The other positive thing ( for them ) is that in the used market prices will stay high as there won’t be as much inventory and used prices are often relative to the new market. They will need special editions to pull this off though otherwise people will see it as a stale product

SunshineSeattle 2025-08-25 06:03

Hmm, I wonder if this is to try and juice the stonk numbers next earnings, we know it's gonna be shitty cause sales are falling everywhere but 150million or whatever number of unsold cyber trucks still on their books.

SisterOfBattIe 2025-08-25 08:56

That actually makes sense. There are a finite number of marks for the Cybertruck, might as well milk then for all their worth.

SisterOfBattIe 2025-08-25 08:57

Enron CFO would have so many ideas how to make that a positive in the balance sheet!

donttakerhisthewrong 2025-08-25 14:51

These are one the military is using for target practice is my guess

Pepparkakan 2025-08-25 21:40

Like why would they do that though? They could just buy a cheap car and put something like comma.ai in it if they need it to be driving remotely. Buying something like a Cybertruck just to blow it up sounds great to us all, but it doesn’t make economic sense, even if Tesla sold it to them at material costs, there are too many expensive materials in the Cybertruck for even that to make sense…

SplitEar 2025-08-26 00:49

It makes perfect economic sense. Musk is stuck with an inventory glut of Cybertrucks with little chance of reviving sales. Not only does this shrink Tesla’s already dwindled profitability but it tarnishes Musk’s reputation as an innovator since he was more involved in the Cybertruck than any other vehicle. If the army swoops in to buy up Cybertruck inventory at inflated prices and destroys them so they can’t dilute the used market then it could staunch the bleeding at Tesla and relax nervous TSLA investors.

mtnman575 2025-08-26 11:22

That'll do the trick! Elon's cult followers will gladly fork over an extra $15k for a Cyberflop.

EmbarrassedGanache68 2025-08-26 12:26

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Jealous-Lettuce-2798 2025-08-29 03:58

I ordered a 2026 Models S Plaid a little over a week ago and was approved by Tesla Financial for a 36 month / 12k mile lease with a money factor of .00427 (10.24% APR). What is my credit score you ask? Tesla sent me an email advising me that their offer was based on my 835 credit score. Just amazing smh. 🤦🏻‍♂️. Yes, I will be canceling my order. That’s just insane especially in conjunction with the new price bump / forced Lux package! I just can’t do it.
