Lease price jumped up almost 100 bucks on model Y this week. What caused this? (US midwest)

Maxifloxacin | 2025-07-09 21:16 | 83 views

I check pricing weekly. Two weeks ago it was around 4k down, 500 a month for model y. I just checked pricing, it is 600 a month now. literally went up 100 bucks. Anybody knows the reason behind this?

end of quarter push (discounts/ financing deals?)

Mirror-Candid 2025-07-09 21:30

EV credits ending.

Dch131 2025-07-09 21:34

Who cares. Trash cars, no one should be shopping this brand.

Dch131 2025-07-09 21:35

Raise prices at the beginning of the quarter still they can discount at the end of the next one.

wenchanger 2025-07-09 21:39

tariffs maybe?

maclaren4l 2025-07-09 21:42

This!

Select-Letterhead690 2025-07-09 21:43

EV credit + tariffs on copper. Read somewhere that Tesla has a lot of copper in their cars so that might be a problem as well

diamantikos 2025-07-09 21:47

The promotions ended at the end of the quarter

Graywulff 2025-07-09 22:06

Yeah all electric cars have a ton of copper.

nlaak 2025-07-09 22:10

> tariffs maybe? As many reasons as there are not to get a Tesla, AFAIK they have one of the highest percentage of made in USA parts.

paulm1927 2025-07-09 22:14

Silver is a better conductor anyway, maybe they could replace all the copper with silver.

paulm1927 2025-07-09 22:15

Elmo is running North American sales now, it’s all part of the plan.

schoff 2025-07-09 22:22

Checks prices of silver....

Charming-Tap-1332 2025-07-09 22:22

Please be certain to notify your passengers that in the event of a moderate crash, all the door handles become disabled and everyone will be trapped inside the vehicle until they are able to locate the hidden emergency door pulls. Be sure to also keep multiple hammers inside the car so each occupant can break their window glass to escape since there are no emergency releases for the back seat passengers.

DisastrousIncident75 2025-07-09 22:29

You check priceing weekly ? What for ? Do you want to buy ? LMAO

[deleted] 2025-07-09 22:36

he made a big point of being future proof (naturally) when the EV stuff (tariffs and ending the taxpayer subsidy so suburban folks can get a Tesla as a second car and a discounted home charger) was coming down pipe and he didnt realize Trump played him. But that didnt work out af all. It turns out it will hurt his business.

spam__likely 2025-07-09 22:39

Who cares? Once you are locked in the car with your children after a crash you will not be thinking about how much you are paying. Go ahead, buy it!

Musk being a moron maybe?

Objective_Chest_1697 2025-07-09 23:00

Holy shit. Is this true? No emergency release for rear seats? How the hell is that even legal?

[deleted] 2025-07-09 23:05

Might be made here, but most of the materials are imported.

AbleDanger12 2025-07-09 23:28

People only support fascism when it's on sale.

Maxifloxacin 2025-07-09 23:38

yeah im getting one like in a month or two. but pricing has gone up a bit so im a little salty

Maxifloxacin 2025-07-09 23:39

but i thought the credit wont end till late september. Are they just raising price just to squeeze last couple months of profit?

Maxifloxacin 2025-07-09 23:41

yeah unfortunately its still the highest autonomy level in the US.. i really wish we can get these Chinese EVs.. they are so far ahead.. they are already at level 4 autonomy.. but i doubt we will ever see it in the US.. oh well..

sk8terboy111 2025-07-09 23:49

They stopped the specials, for leases it was a reduced Money Factor. They have been running something all year, will be interesting to see if it comes back before the credit expires. I have a 3 and for fun I ran it the other day, more ones down and $200 higher than my deal in April.

Dch131 2025-07-09 23:55

Level 2 with hands on the wheel? That's not autonomy that's risking people's lives with unproven gimmicks.

Charming-Tap-1332 2025-07-09 23:58

Here are the details of which models and years have no manual emergency release for rear passengers. ● All Model 3's (pre-Hyland refresh) from 2023 and earlier. ● All Model Y's from mid-2023 and prior as well as some brand new model Y's have still been reported as not having them.

RedditM0derate 2025-07-10 00:02

Not gold lol?

Elmobiles.

Chippopotanuse 2025-07-10 01:10

Also, margins are way down. They need more margin per car or earnings are FUBAR.

Mostly-up 2025-07-10 01:52

Buy a Hyundai or Kia they’re better

Ok-ChildHooOd 2025-07-10 01:54

Well then you're gonna be in a world of hurt when FSD crashes you into a parked car if youre worried about an extra $100/mo

DisastrousIncident75 2025-07-10 02:37

Go ahead. Like E-loan said everyone digs their own

dbcooper4 2025-07-10 02:49

Not until 9/30.

Schroederlaw 2025-07-10 03:00

This. Tesla always pushes hard to get their quarterly deliveries high at the end of the quarter. Gotta pump that stock price.

D74248 2025-07-10 03:16

Funny story about that and the Manhattan Project. [here](https://www.osti.gov/opennet/manhattan-project-history/Places/OakRidge/oak-ridge-y12-silver.html)

We have all the Chinese cars in México and it’s a mixed bag. The BYD Dolphin seems like a great car until you hit a pothole - then not so much. Other brands have issues with fit and finish and software, etc. The grass isn’t that much greener.

_SoSteezy 2025-07-10 03:24

EOQ lease special

BayHistorian 2025-07-10 03:55

People don’t understand this, the vast majority of people don’t understand how intertwined the global market is. Most of us Americans have no idea that product parts move across borders multiple times before they’re finally assembled. While the final product may be finished here, certain small parts may move in and out of the US multiple times and tariffs are going to be applied each time depending on which countries they move in and out of. Assembly location means jack shit if all the raw materials and parts are made elsewhere

Makeshift-human 2025-07-10 05:10

500 a month for a car you don't even own is crazy. That's 6000 a year and in the end all you're left with is a bill with hidden costs. I gueess it went up to 600 because there are enough financially irresponsonsible people who will also pay 7200 a year for not owning a car.

Opcn 2025-07-10 06:34

The thing is that they aren't at all the best at autonomy. What they are is the absolute most willing to put a dangerous product on the road.

habfranco 2025-07-10 07:09

This. Look at also eu-EVs.com charts, they are pushing A LOT at end of quarters, and then the are basically flat lining for weeks.

gwenver 2025-07-10 08:29

AFAIK lease pricing is based on depreciation. I.e. you are paying the difference between the new price and the resale price in X years time. As the price of used Teslas has plummeted the depreciation has increased. This is what the lease price covers.

[deleted] 2025-07-10 09:17

Chrysler is prime example of that. They had a model that crossed back and forth a few times, that by the time you net net the tariffs, it’s adding 51% on to the car. I think they stopped producing that model due to it.

Visual-Advantage-834 2025-07-10 11:33

Silver is a better conductor than gold

RedditM0derate 2025-07-10 13:21

Conductivity is not the sole variable to analyze. Reliability and corrosion resistance is a vital factor for which gold leads re usage in the chips

That_Abbreviations61 2025-07-10 14:52

My 2020 MY has them in back. Hidden under a latch in the door pockets. I keyringed a pull tab on them both.

Visual-Advantage-834 2025-07-10 15:00

Obviously hence gold plated pcb edge connectors and plug/socket pins. Just stating a fact.

Charming-Tap-1332 2025-07-10 15:19

The trouble is that there's no consistency. There are two to three million 3s, and Ys without them. That's extremely dangerous. And, it's a fact that brand new 3s and Ys are still be reported by their owners without them for rear passengers.

drybeater 2025-07-10 18:54

Tesla is bleeding money, if they have an excuse to squeeze the consumer they will.

DeadSpatulaInc 2025-07-10 20:14

but we aren’t talking just the connectors, the conversation was about replacing all the copper wiring.

LordMoos3 2025-07-10 20:44

Why? Why the hell would you buy one at this point? You see all the bullshit, and think "Oh yes please, sign me up for that!"?

[deleted] 2025-07-11 02:21

Copper foil with graphite is the anode of most every lithium battery. Copper is used for bus bars and wire harnesses as well. But material spot prices would not be the primary driver for vehicle price changes this significant.

TheBlackUnicorn 2025-07-11 12:38

The original commenter already replied but I want to add some background of how this came to be. Basically the long and the short of it is that Tesla really super duper wants to have electronic door latches because they think it's cool. I used to have a Model S and the way that it handled this was it had one lever that, at like a half-pull it would activate the electronic latch, and at a 100% pull it would activate the mechanical backup. This seems perfectly sensible, but they also thought it would be super cool to make the door latch a button instead of a lever, so to accomplish this on the Model 3 and Y (and the most recent Ses and Xes) they decided to split the system into two pieces, with a button for the electronic latch and a hidden emergency pull for the mechanical one. The emergency pull for the front doors is pretty obvious, a lot of people accidentally use it when their hands reach for a door pull and it activates, this produces a warning message that you should not regularly use this because it doesn't drop the frameless window and could damage the weather stripping (though there are some people who have gotten trapped because they just never noticed the emergency pull at all). The emergency pull for the back doors is usually hidden and might require a screwdriver to access.

Public-Antelope8781 2025-07-11 22:19

Sounds genius. Designed by the Technoking\* himself, I assume. *Technoking* is really his official title. Real lawyers had studied and than got to work and write a filing to the SEC to make it an official title. Maybe he will soon have the title Mechahitler at xAI?

Born-Gur-1275 2025-07-13 04:11

TARIFFS on parts.

Bold choice

HillsNDales 2025-07-14 15:33

You better stop putting Elmo’s good name on these crappy fire traps!😂 Elmo is a good puppet and my kids loved him. Mush, on the other hand, isn’t a good anything.

HillsNDales 2025-07-14 15:35

Yeah, but their dealers and service departments treat you very poorly. Even Honda has fallen far. Toyota and Subaru are the way to go if you want good dealership treatment and cars that hold their value.

Mostly-up 2025-07-14 20:12

Subaru's have a lot of problems cam carrier leaks suspension components , ect

HillsNDales 2025-07-14 21:48

And yet they were very high on ConsumerReport’s quality ratings this past year. Regardless, Subaru’s dealers treat you well, and Subaru on many occasions have offered extended or lifetime warranties on parts it knows have issues, without being prompted or required by any safety agency. My friend has an Outback with a V-6 engine. When he bought it, he knew those engines had a reputation for blowing head gaskets around 80,000 miles. His electronics system (radio and video) started having some issues not too long after he bought it (a couple of years). They’ve replaced it twice, at no cost, and Subaru has given him a lifetime warranty on it. And lifetime for Subarus tends to be a REALLY long time. In contrast, we had a Kia Telluride when it was the best thing going. We liked the truck, and it had decent gas mileage for the size of vehicle. However, 8 months after we purchased it, it developed a dangerous but intermittent problem with the anti-crash sensor. Because this was integrated into the cruise control system, it would repeatedly switch itself off without warning at highway speeds. We took it to the dealer, who was “unable to find anything wrong.” Oh, and they charged us $300 just to check the error codes, on a vehicle STILL UNDER THE NEW CAR “bumper to bumper” warranty. They also sell extended warranties from a third party without clearly disclosing this, and it’s one of the ones with the worst reputation for disputing and paying claims. They stiffed us on the refund of the warranty purchase, and tried to sell us the vehicle based only on monthly payment (without showing us the total cost) so they could hide that they were charging $3,000 OVER sticker for the truck. So yes, we sold that truck during COVID when we got $50 more than we paid for it brand new, and it had 21,000 miles on it. We lucked out. Bought a Subaru Ascent and loved everything about it EXCEPT the gas mileage in the city. Should have kept that vehicle.

Mostly-up 2025-07-14 22:04

Yes not bad dealerships. Toyota have a lot less problems especially the hybrids. I’m in that business and won’t own a Subby. I drive a Toyota used to drive European cars when I had a repair shop. Now that repairs are less convenient i switched to Toyota.

HillsNDales 2025-07-14 22:46

And that’s why Toyotas hold their value better than most brands. Honda seems to have been cruising on its rep for the past few years.

Mostly-up 2025-07-19 15:57

I generally use the car to the near end of its life . I’ve never got more than a couple grand for what’s left. My Toyota has 162k at 8 years. I expect somewhere over 200k. Until something major happens, why replace?

Practical-Donkey-984 2025-08-13 02:12

What’s this cooler option for model y?
