Dude is pretty knowledgeable on Chinese EVs. He's the same guy who bought one and didn't want to drive anything else.

If I'm China I start demanding Tesla has a Chinese partnership or GTFO. They don't need Tesla anymore.

Apple made this possible.

TBH I'd take a Xiaomi over Tesla any day. I like the home automation stuff they make, most of the time super hackable (in the tinkering sense), and of course their Roborock lineup of vacuum cleaners. They are like the Apple of China except they don't lock down their stuff.

It’s not to China’s benefit to kick out Tesla.

What would they lose? BYD is the best battery maker. Chinese companies already have their version of FSD. Chinese companies make cheaper EVs. Longer ranges. Luxury. I'm not sure what Tesla offers to still get a sweetheart deal compared to everyone else.

It can be used as leverage against US trade policies under a more consistent administration.
