I guess
People leave companies all the time. These people replaced previous people that left who replaced people who left before. And these people people will be replaced by people who will eventually leave as well.
I assume it’s because Tesla is currently on Autopilot. Tesla clearly wants to pivot away from vehicles and into AI/Robotics. Anyone who signed up to revolutionize the vehicle space is ready to move on. Everyone that replaces them will be focused on the new AI/Robot Tesla future. I assume very few changes will be made to Tesla’s vehicle lineup going forward. Just minor refreshes with a major focus on FSD/AI.
According to Reddit: - Good news is good news - Bad news is also good news - No news is also good news Things are always looking up!
Elon leaving would be news. If it were spacex and Gwynne left, it would be news. This isn't news.
Can they hire me?
Awful news for the brand and the company. But because this is 2025, this will add anywhere from 2-5% to TSLA stock tomorrow.
> It’s tough to sum up eight years in just a few lines, but what a thrilling journey it’s been: ramping up Model 3, working on Giga Shanghai, developing new electronics and wireless architectures, and delivering the once-in-a-lifetime Cybertruck—all before hitting 30," This guy did all that over eight years and left before turning 30? What the hell was his résumé at 22!?
Which is fine for a while, especially if they *actually deliver* on the AI and self driving. But eventually they will need more than minor refreshes.
no way
Well, both of them leaving at the same time is probably not unrelated, despite the praises they sang after departure. They were both at Tesla for 8 years, since before Model 3 launched.
He revamped the HR department in Heaven, word got around.
It is funny that after people leaving after 8 years how it's a major negative for Tesla... But if they lose people sooner it's also negative... But if they stay past 10 years and then eventually leave....it's also negative lmao
Have you ever considered that it's *you* that might be wrong, and not necessarily the market? Employees leave and join large companies all the time. It's generally immaterial to the valuation of the stock.
It’s just news? At this point they’re focusing on software and refining self driving. 14 on advanced has already gotten people 100% zero interventions between LA and Austin. They’re there. They just need refinement. Makes sense for the car people to want to work more on cars.
You remember when Steve Jobs developed the iPhone knowing it would eventually become a major part of the future of Apple as a consumer product company? Then do you remember Steve Jobs went and started his own multibillion dollar phone hardware company on the side? You see if you have a company that does something and it's the future of that company you don't often start another company that does the same thing.
I think the negative here, is they left on the same day. Especially after 4th consecutive quarter in profit plunges.
Oh I’m wrong all the time. Ask any economist if the valuation of TSLA is tied to any semblance of reality. I’m not the one who’s wrong in this case. And very convenient for you two call two top level positions vacating the company **simultaneously** just “employees”.
We call program managers bosses now? The day program managers run Tesla is the day Tesla going down the ditches.
This... they have definitely made FU money at this point, and they reached a certain pinnacle and want to move on. It is a very Silicon Valley, very normal thing to happen.
Not really a negative at all. They have been there for a long time.
A robot probably delivered his resume for him at 22.
This tends to happen when the stock does well. At a certain point you just pass on the batan for the next future millionaire.
It absolutely makes sense that an early career person would not be able to stand up to the boss over the avalanche of bad ideas that is the cybertruck. Neither party has developed or retained experience / reality based common sense.
There’s probably a lot of people there that love making cars. But this company is going to pivot and honestly needs to pivot. The car market is extremely small margins. The ev car competition is going to be crazy if not already. They clearly want to turn to robots and AI. As a stock investor I love that. As a Tesla car enthusiast it makes me sad.
It's not hard getting into Tesla. It's hard to stay doing only one thing in Tesla. Tesla is a sticker to put on your resume and a decent opportunity for building experience, but the actual..day to day operations within Tesla are not sustainable. Anyone with any common sense leaves before inevitably being laid off/fired or replaced. Speaking from experience; had literally zero manufacturing work before Tesla, got hired into GFTX for Body in White, a little under a year later I'm in stamping while also doing QA & Factory Acceptance Tests for new equipment, all within two years total before leaving for Rivian. Autonomous vehicles are an inevitable factor. Elon & Tesla are nothing special whatsoever. At least Rivian actually cares about both physical & behavioral appearance.. and at least the R1 can work as a genuine truck. (If I had $80k rn I wouldn't hesitate to buy an RCV) I've worked manufacturing and QA in Tesla and Vehicle Technician for Rivian including mobile repairs. The most current Model Y that is being produced was ready for production nearly five years ago these designs are strategically & deliberately released on a staggered pattern to maintain the "oooh, ahhh" affect that new unveilings carry, otherwise by now you cannot tell me the majority of you wouldn't be looking at the newest Tesla models the same way as the latest iPhones, just another slightly better, intentionally "enhanced" rendition of the previous model. Where the absolute fuckies is my Gen2 Roadster. No more excuses lmao
Any economist? Lol. If they all thought it should be valued lower, then it would be valued lower. These employees weren't even on the executive leadership team. They were high up, sure, but not even at the top level that's directly below the CEO, which itself has a good number of people. So there are many employees at that are at this level, and of course some of them will leave on occasion. Again, it's not material to the stock, as much as you desperately want it to be. Other factors will move the stock significantly more. This is a normal part of business. Heads of vehicle programs at other companies like Ford or Toyota come and go all the time, but you never hear about it in the media. The longer you take to understand that, the longer you will remain confused why Tesla isn't actually crashing and burning.
Working at Tesla is the olympics of your profession. Everyone knows this. It's the opposite of a union shop.
Or it's completely coincidence.
Or they didn't really leave, it's some sort of 4D chess 🤔
Sometimes you need to shake things up, like when everyone filled their diapers when Elon released the supercharger team. He reconstituted it, and it went on an install streak!
People can spin stories however they like.

I'm constantly reminded about how most great (or influential) people in the world make a name for themselves pretty early on in their lives, often before 30, certainly before 40. I'm 42 for reference.
Who the hell is running Tesla? I think almost every position in the company has quit, how can you guarantee quality and a unified vision going forward when the people that built the company are jumping ship left, right and center non-stop.
The letter itself is not negative. But the context of it might be. What if Tesla never comes out with a new model? These people like to be working on stuff. They are not the types of managers to just sit around and collect paychecks. Who knows whats going on internally right now, but does Tesla have any new vehicle model in the pipeline? You can only refresh the Model Y so many times. Eventually you have to replace it or your competitor will replace it for you. I personally think we will look back on this time in 10 years as a lost decade for Tesla. The Cybertruck was late and missed targets on both range and price. The model Y and 3 were able to sustain profits but only for so many years until competitors caught up like we are seeing right now and instead of of Elon being focused on diversifying Teslas products he is distracted with a weird robot which is going to be like Tesla’s metaverse. Millions of dollars and wasted opportunity with engineers focusing on a weird robot instead of their next car model.

Don't worry man Optimus is the future man. In 10 years everyone will have one in their house cooking them breakfast, doing their laundry, and changing their baby’s diapers. /s But seriously Tesla is a car company that suddenly seems uninterested in making cars. The Cybertuck started production 2 years ago now and we haven't had a new product since. Is it just accepted that there will be 5 years or more before we see a new car model from Tesla?
Lol go easy on the kool-aid my man
They aren't leading in any part of robotics.....
Lol, beat on range but for nearly twice the original price. This is not something you should be bragging about 😁 And the RWD is already discontinued.
or they just had a big vesting and/or they're getting hired somewhere else together? There's tons of reasons they could be leaving including coincidence.
[removed]
While I am not a fan of Musk, people said the same thing about his electric cars, If you doubt his ability to move technology forward youre a fool.
8 years. It means he’s cashed out most his options. 8 years a Tesla is like 30 at any other company.
[deleted]
they're getting hired somewhere else together? Then both of them leaving together wouldn't be a coincidence.
They put all that time into making those mega casting lines... Just for the company who made the casting tech to be bought by GM
I said "nearly", remember the $40k RWD that came at $70k. The EV tax credit is gone. And then there was the crazy expensive foundation series. Regardless, the abysmal sales speak for themselves. The market clearly doesn't think it's a good value.

You must be reading a different reddit to me. I rarely see good news.
They put in a lot of hours. I bet it. The work is interesting and fun but after awhile you’ve made some Money and do something else.
Let’s see… dedicating your life to make Elon a billionaire while you’re making less than $1M a year and now suddenly Elon is being offered $1T while you are still dedicating your life while he gets all the credit. Yeah, nah. The benefit has already been realized - they already made a ton of money. Why commit more blood, sweat, and tears to make what ends up being a rounding error’s worth of Elon’s $1T pay package?
Program managers are NOT executives nor “bosses”. What kind of strange org chart understanding is this? He is not even a director, let alone title of VP, SVP. The dude was an intern 8 years ago at Tesla 🤦🏻
Bottom line is that it's a massive flop.
> Again, it’s not material to the stock, as much as you desperately want it to be. Bruh. That’s some 5 star projection there, my friend. Your entire existence on Reddit is Tesla. 😂
Tesla’s metaverse is correct
At least this may implicate Tesla is still working on Model 3
Steve jobs, famous for owning two computer companies
Robotaxi’s are a race to the bottom. When everyone has Autonomous vehicles it will just be a matter of who is cheaper than who when we get to small costs like 10 cents per dollar. (If ever). It will just be who can edge who out. Car margins will look beefy compared to this
Well he literally was the manager for the Cybertruck and the other guy was for the Model Y. I’d say they certainly done a lot
Elon just dropped the supercharger team, these two people left coordinated at the same time
They are both Program Managers. There are literally 100s of program managers for a product like this. 1 or 5 program managers leaving at at time is not unusual, it happens all the time. So this is not a news at all, this is how the business is done. If anything, he overstayed for 8 years, employees generally change companies after 3-4 years. People leave all the time and new people get hired all the time. This is in news cause websites needs to get clicks Source: I work in a similar size company and people quitting is part of the business.
I’m not doubting that a well-designed robot could be useful, I’m doubting that it’s a good idea to leave behind the cars for it.
The comforting fact is that most people aren't and don't need to be great/influential. It's like if you have the skills to be great and the sacrifice is worth it you try to be great, otherwise goal is to just have a happy low stress life
He originally said it would cost 40k, it is almost double for a base model. They also look like poop, I wanted to like them at first. There is literally not one redeeming angle on the vehicle in person.
Imagine working for Elon for one year!
They want to have a life and a family I’m sure, and working 80 hour weeks ain’t gonna allow that
Not sure the cubertruck is something to be proud of
Nothing to be worried when these things come up. People come and go. It’s a natural process. It’s always a good thing to have someone with fresh eyes or a higher drive take over
What's something you have done for comparison?
Love it or hate it, it lives rent free in everyone's heads.
You're missing the point, their vehicles ARE robots
I bet they didn't sell their stock 😏
> The icing on the cake was getting to dive back into Model 3 work toward the end. Is this the part you’re referencing? Because I take that to mean that the final part of his employment, before resignation, at Tesla was working on Model 3 - not that he is now working on the Model 3.
Sounds like some vesting date passed, or bonus eligibility date or other compensation related milestone occurred. This isn't unusual.
I’m skeptical of this but we are both arguing the same thing. I would say autonomous cars are software so we do see a pivot in the company bc just selling a car has such low margins. And this relates to the original post bc the heads of these models are really car enthusiasts.
I really feel that people only see others as numbers. Today we see 2 “bosses” quit and think it’s going to affect Tesla because of their status. Almost like they were the innovative engineers that drove development and advancement; when in reality they most likely did peer reviews before submitting work that was sent to them by a ton of other people who actually built/developed/coded everything. Those people are just numbers to the majority and if they quit, no one cares. It’s sad. Really. They should get more credit than they do.
Well his Ai replacement of I’m sure less than 2 will have to handle moving forward. And no joke, the rate they are learning now… Elon’s dream is becoming our reality. Starlik for the win
Every market is basically a race to the bottom unfortunately lol
Wes Morrill was and is the chief engineer on Cybertruck. Wes is the guy that built Cybertruck.
Could be said the same thing for EVs or anything in general.
Because I really like what Tesla is doing. That's irrelevant to the fact that what I'm saying here is true. If there are still safety monitors in every car for Tesla's Robotaxi service in Austin a year from now, *that* would be material to the stock. A couple of vehicle program leads leaving is not material to the stock. These people come and go all the time.
Clickbaity junk 😂
Not really. Nvidia makes like 70% profit on every chip? I work in biotech and our test gives us like 60% profit. Humanoid robots will give massive profit if it can replace workers. Also can work day and night and the weekends. That alone is worth it. Honestly just listen to Tesla conference call. He talks more about that than anything. You can tell that’s the future of the company in his eyes.
[deleted]
I thought you were saying his leaving the cybertruck project wasn’t actually a resignation and instead was him being moved back to Model 3. My mistake.
Are you a shareholder
[deleted]
I didn’t downvote you…. And seeing as the resignation was past tense, saying “had” would still have been appropriate for if he’d been moved to Model 3 rather than resigning.
[deleted]
And historically, [it appears I have upvoted your comments 10 times.](https://imgur.com/gallery/t35I0Qb#egeq3co) So I generally agree with you. Edit: Imgur is now being weird and the link isn’t working. Suffice it say, it’s a screenshot of your username with Reddit enhancement suite showing a +10 after your name.
> I assume very few changes will be made to Tesla’s vehicle lineup going forward. Just minor refreshes with a major focus on FSD/AI. You would be assuming correctly.
lol who cares what his position was 8 years ago??
Different organizations have different titles, it's hard to pinpoint exactly what level this guy was. On the one hand, he started as an intern at Tesla in 2017, so there's no way this guy is like super high level. Grok seems to indicate that he was not a "mere" program manager, but was more of a director level, like a vehicle lead or chief. But again, he's not like some vice president or senior executive. He launched his product, he's moving on. There's nothing remarkable about this "news." I worked in the auto industry for over 20 years. Mostly at Tier 1s but some time at OEMs, and of course working at a Tier 1 I'm constantly interacting with the OEMs. People come and go all the time.
It's just to indicate that he's not like some solid foundation of Tesla where the whole thing's going to come crashing down because he leaves. He was an intern 8 years ago, he got to like a director level of a product that is now launched. Now he's leaving, this is not really big news.
Nope. Once they perfect the FSD, they will not need the fleet of beta testers anymore. They will be licensing out their FSD IP to other car makers. That’s a higher margin business then building cars
Isn't the Cybertruk designer just an 8 year old with some Crayons and butcher paper?
They both, neither got the electric blue implemented on the cars, too.
It is pretty normal for people to quit after a big milestone like this too.
PgM is an IC who in general writes stakeholders doc, organize meetings and writes summary of them in tech companies.
On the engineering/design side I would give this dude super credit for getting that clusterfuck to ship.
Yeah this news is purely for those with eds
I bet they both still love the car, though! 🤣
Good luck in this job market
any one who has been in engineering knows that "program managers" are not bosses... thry are the lowest paid on the team. they often have no qualifications. they are easentialls super assistants... this is like saying the ford boss has left the company because the CEOs assistant quit... im fact this position is so worthless there has been a large push in many companies to remove the position all together in recent years
True, NVIDIA’s margins are huge… but that’s mostly AI/data-center, not gaming.. The consumer GPU space is still a knife fight lol. AMD tries to win with “cheaper and faster,” NVIDIA answers with segmentation and branding tricks. Prices went up, but value went down… that’s still a race to the bottom, just dressed in premium packaging. 🤷🏻♂️
Now, don’t get me wrong… I get what you mean. NVIDIA’s margins are crazy, but that’s mostly because they’ve changed the playing field. They aren’t really competing in the same space anymore. When it comes to gaming, AMD and NVIDIA still fight over price-to-performance every generation. The difference is that NVIDIA keeps its overall margins high by balancing those weaker gaming profits with AI and enterprise chips that have massive markups. So yeah, NVIDIA’s profits look incredible on paper, but the consumer market still follows a race-to-the-bottom pattern. AMD keeps discounting to gain ground, NVIDIA splits its lineup into smaller tiers, and gamers end up paying more for less each generation. So yes, even in that market, it’s still a race to the bottom.
Tesla still needs to make money somehow to support robocabs, and robots. If their car market dies, are they going to be able to print money?
Not trying the diminish what this guy has accomplished but keep in mind that these kinds of surface level tweets or LinkedIn posts...anyone can make any position they've worked and any trivial accomplishment sound amazing. Whether they did those things or not...how many people will reach out to Tesla and fact check his claims?
I don’t think anyone needs to reach out and check his claims when he’s a known individual. He is the chief program manager of the cybertruck. Like, the top dog over the entire cybertruck operation.
This right here… I imagine some old dude in a suit at GM smoking a celebratory cigarette after having the social media intern post this
these posts are wordsmithing to elicit an image that Tesla is inevitable crumbling. Tesla has made the incumbent US auto makers look like overpriced fumbling idiots, honestly I am embarrassed for them….
Programming managers? sounds like an outdated job that could be replaced by an IT guy that knows how to use AI.
I have never met a program manager in the history of Silicon Valley that is an executive and without a title of VP or above
