FSD Trial with new Tires

Youraging | 2025-11-01 06:04 | 305 views

New promotion for FSD trial available under the service tab when you buy a new set. Haven’t heard of any news about this yet.

30 day trial as a reward for overpaying for tires?

JShaunOfTheDead 2025-11-01 12:38

It’s almost certainly cheaper to buy a full set elsewhere and buy a month of FSD

skywrench87 2025-11-01 12:43

What were they asking for this set of tires?

Adventurous_Term_514 2025-11-01 12:45

Sounds like a bunch of marketing bullshit for an overpriced product.

iamfishious 2025-11-01 13:13

I just checked the app and it was $300/per tire for the front and $335/per tire for the rear. This is all before installation and everything. Also, they are a summer tire.

skywrench87 2025-11-01 13:14

Damn! That’s too much

Short-Service1248 2025-11-01 13:26

Omg that’s highway robbery. Definitely cheaper to buy tires elsewhere and get a month of fsd

stevieoats 2025-11-01 13:40

Cost to replace full set of OEM Pirellis on 2025 MP3 is nearly $1800. They’re ripping people off who might think they need special “EV tires” for their Tesla.

TheRealDestrux 2025-11-01 14:00

Honda worked with Bridgestone to make the RE92 tire for the very efficient Honda Insight. Made roughly a 10mpg difference vs other tires. This feels oddly similar, but also took them long enough.

wizkidweb 2025-11-01 14:03

It is recommended to get high load tires, but yes, EV-specific tires are a scam.

wtfredditacct 2025-11-01 14:11

It's actually common for manufacturers to work with tire manufacturers to make special tires... and $300 is unfortunately about right. Just go aftermarket when the time comes.

LionTigerWings 2025-11-01 14:12

i bet we all get an FSD trial a week before thanksgiving.

Der_Kommissar73 2025-11-01 14:25

I overpaid for tires at the dealer last week after having a blowout on the highway. They charge you $130 if you don’t then replace or repair your tires with Tesla after taking their “free” loaner wheel”. Anyway- yes, I have free FSD for a month. Should be a year for what they charged.

CAVU1331 2025-11-01 14:42

The Continental Pro Contact RX is my OE tire. $305 from Tesla or $298 from Discount Tire. Surprisingly not a huge ripoff.

BDnets 2025-11-01 14:49

Same here and labor was $140 total for a full set

kfar87 2025-11-01 14:59

Not necessarily. EV performance tires are a scam. Some of the others are fine. You get excellent noise reduction with Hankooks for example.

midnight_to_midnight 2025-11-01 15:01

🤣 🤣 🤣

TheDiligentOccasion 2025-11-01 15:12

Tesla approved tires aren't new tho, you can see them designated under the "size" field in Tirerack for example. It'll say TS0, T1, T2, etc. I've been buying these for a few years now. They're probably using FSD as a way to promote/bring awareness to these tires and give people the extra push to buy them 🤷‍♂️

madeforatc 2025-11-01 15:19

Except Tesla charges you for every tire rotation and balance and it’s free at discount tire

jobadiah08 2025-11-01 15:35

Usually that is at the sacrifice of stopping distance, cornering, or wet/snow performance.

CAVU1331 2025-11-01 15:37

That’s why I go to discount to rotate tires . They’ve been rotating my tires that I haven’t bought from there. I will buy from them again in the future.

CAVU1331 2025-11-01 15:39

Have you seen the price of tires for actual EV tires. Also for those of us that need every bit of range out of the battery. It makes a 10 to 15% difference in range going with a cheaper tire.

RustyDoor 2025-11-01 15:50

Seems worth it for the $8 a year I'll save.

Crawdaddy-MktgGenius 2025-11-01 15:51

Remember when everything from speaker wire to headphones and lens cleaners were sold as, “Digital Ready?”

tgbreddit 2025-11-01 15:54

In my car history, I’ve owned Continental tires twice, Michelins 3 times, Coopers twice, Hancook, Firestone, Goodyear. By far Continental’s were the worst. More nails, one set had a major defect that they blamed on a wheel bearing. Replaced with Michelins and went away. Anyway, I won’t buy Continental’s again.

ajn63 2025-11-01 16:09

The higher price for “T” rated tires is some have the foam liner that reduces their noise.

SucreTease 2025-11-01 16:10

That and their free tire repair (again, even tires you didn't buy from them) are what made me a loyal customer.

SucreTease 2025-11-01 16:12

So, you're blaming Continental for getting nails? Nails are random events; the fact that random samples cluster sometimes is not attributable to where the clusters happen.

DIY_CHRIS 2025-11-01 16:17

I got the Pirelli Scorpion Zero AS Plus 3 NCS for $1800 with the tire certs this week. 50k mile warranty.

tgbreddit 2025-11-01 16:19

Not scientific by any means. But I was plugging them 6 times a year at least. I’ve never ever experienced that frequency with other tires. The defect on the one set was the deal breaker for me. Since then, other mechanic and gear head guys have mentioned issues with Continental tires.

Epicdurr2020 2025-11-01 16:49

Only getting that range boast with the OEM by reducing the tread depth to 9/32 compared to 10/32 which is standard for this class and size of tire. You are getting better range but 10% less tire life and potentially poorer poor weather performance. There is nothing special or unique about the OEM tire.

Epicdurr2020 2025-11-01 16:55

Which don't actually reduce noise. Tire rack did a very good video on this.

ErB17 2025-11-01 17:02

/s I hope

CAVU1331 2025-11-01 17:03

Have you priced tires lately?

ErB17 2025-11-01 17:04

They lower frequency which lowers percieved noise.

skywrench87 2025-11-01 17:05

Yes, I had a truck I put tires on that cost close to that, a much bigger tire

Epicdurr2020 2025-11-01 17:09

They do not. The foam is not dense enough. Air travels through it far too easily. To reduce or change the noise, you need significantly more mass. Just a marketing gimmick. https://youtu.be/IiQLsDsGOUo?si=MKFlyu3qyhpPSfUK

CAVU1331 2025-11-01 17:10

What tires were they? That’s not an apples to apples comparison anyways.

ErB17 2025-11-01 17:27

For most people they probably aren't that sensitive to the noise/frequency change. But there is a difference, and it is noticeable when driving over certain surfaces.

dizzie_buddy1905 2025-11-01 17:33

How do these compare to the Hankook ion ev-specific tires?

Snakend 2025-11-01 17:41

My tire shop charges $25 per tire to balance and mount. I just buy the tires on Amazon and pay the shop $100.

Nasarescue 2025-11-01 17:50

So I went to Tesla for a rotation. They were way cool. They said almost all reputable tire stores will rotate Tesla tires for free. (As long as the have the right equipment) so I have been going to Tire King and yup. Free every time. The Tesla shop people go there also.

CAVU1331 2025-11-01 19:20

However, there is a quantifiable difference between EV tires and normal tires in terms of range.

Youraging 2025-11-01 19:38

When I went through the prompts for Hankook S1, $260 each for 18”, unsure of installation fees.

Crawdaddy-MktgGenius 2025-11-01 19:59

Judging from info I’ve seen from people who seem to know more than I do, that sounds correct. My fallback (as opposed to spending hours on research) is to rely on: 1. Manufacturer’s recommendation 2. People who deal with it full time (i.e. your local trusted tire shop pros).😎

skywrench87 2025-11-01 20:25

That’s much more reasonable IMO

ajn63 2025-11-01 20:28

Not a truly valid test. They tested on custom made tires, not standard production level “T” series tires. I’d like to see them test against production tires that have both foam and non-foam variants. Even so they did notice more quiet performance over certain road conditions. Metered measurements over certain surfaces had over 3db reduction. Sound level being logarithmic means it’s twice the sound level.

AssGagger 2025-11-01 20:32

These should be great in the snow

DontCallMeRadi0 2025-11-01 22:44

Cries in staggered fitment. (Tears of joy) -M3P

CAVU1331 2025-11-01 22:51

Yeah that sucks. Burning through a set quicker!

Dr_Pippin 2025-11-01 23:59

Any other erroneous words of wisdom you’d like to share with the class?

Drew_Asunder 2025-11-02 05:40

Hmm, fsd still dosent avoid potholes and yet is conveniently added to every new set of tires you buy… how interesting 🤔 /s

lightwhite 2025-11-02 05:52

What are the 3 best tyre options to choose for a 2019 model 3 in 2025 then? I will need to buy new set of 4 in spring as my summer tyres need replacement.?

Appropriate-Day8924 2025-11-02 16:06

So basically it’s $100 discount for a new set of tires.

2livemariobros 2025-11-02 19:26

Our odometer is sus it keeps reading longer distances than we actually travel. I bike the same trip to my charger And back Tesla calls it 4.1 miles but it’s 3.8 miles

nah_you_good 2025-11-02 19:38

I end up just replacing them in pairs. The rears wear like 30% faster. Although when I had a regular AWD Model 3, I got a Tesla to do a mobile tire rotation ($75 during COVID) and they said I didn't actually need one, the wear was even.

Electronic_Advice203 2025-11-03 00:47

Costco or Sam free rotation and balance and free installation $1050 for 4 set of Tesla model 3. Tesla will charge $1450 and 1 month of fsd.

disergi0 2025-11-03 02:38

Anywhere except Tesla, rotation and repairs are for free.

PsychologicalGoal927 2025-11-03 08:13

Plus Discount/Americas tire road hazard warranty is much cheaper

Bakerboy448 2025-11-03 12:45

Discount tire can be negotiated below retail easily. Never pay sticker for tires

CAVU1331 2025-11-03 15:36

Yeah I usually shop around then show them the price. Never had an issue.

CAVU1331 2025-11-03 15:37

I’ve never paid for it. I’ve actually received them free twice.

PsychologicalGoal927 2025-11-03 15:49

Yep, should have clarified - new with new tire purchase, can be added for much less than Tesla tire coverage on existing tires too.

dextroz 2025-11-03 15:52

\> What are the 3 best tyre options to choose for a 2019 model 3 in 2025 then? I will need to buy new set of 4 in spring as my summer tyres need replacement.? Spring? Are you new here? Tire recommendations change in this sub by the week like a pendulum.

Mysterious_Daikon118 2025-11-04 00:45

Nice

gweilojoe 2025-11-04 02:20

I’ve only gotten my MXP tires replaced by discount tire, and they do the free rotation, but they told me I needed an alignment adjustment because they were wearing quick on the inside and that wasn’t something they could do for my car and to take it to Tesla… was kinda annoying.

goodvibezone 2025-11-04 02:41

Dang, they'll be giving a trial away with every Happy Meal next.

typeusername01 2025-11-04 04:43

Plus they also price match at Discount Tire. I was able to get them to remove the install fee and price match Costco

thegame460 2025-11-04 22:21

This would be totally worth it for HW 2.5 Cars if it included the $1000 HW 3.0 Upgrade.

feinburgrl 2025-11-05 00:57

Costco tire shop is the best and you get tire repair, rotation and installation with that price you see on their website. The only bad thing is that you will be waiting for hours 😂

tmblweed85 2025-11-05 11:33

I just had my tires rotated, the Tesla tech came over to my house and I was charged $60. In addition, he checked and cleaned the cameras, checked the filter and filled the windshield wiper fluid. Not bad.

spartangreenandred 2025-11-06 16:24

When should I get the shocks replaced?

raptor3x 2025-11-09 15:09

This isn't in regard to the tire rack test or even those tires in general, but you don't necessarily need more mass for noise reduction. Mass is needed for noise blocking but that's only one aspect of the general noise reduction strategy. Another aspect is noise absorption, which is what the foam in tires is intended for, and that does not require much mass at all. Some of the best products for noise absorption are things like Thinsulate 600L which weighs basically nothing yet is still highly effective at absorbing sound energy within a certain frequency band. I haven't watched the tire rack video yet but I'm going to guess they did measurements with one of those handheld SPL meters which means their results are dubious at best. EDIT: Watched the video, yeah they did the typical youtuber thing of using a single value SPL meter. Test is essentially worthless, the subjective evaluation is actually the better test in this video.

Pipelayer222 2025-11-13 01:40

Not a good idea to only buy 2 tires for an AWD vehicle. Can cause a lot of problems.

nah_you_good 2025-11-13 02:53

Conventional AWD's and Teslas are different, but yeah always having 4 tires of very similar tread is the way to go. I just don't feel like tossing out my front set of tires at half tread once the back ones are gonezo. That's like ~$500 or rubber getting thrown out every time. Manual says pairs are fine, of course full set is recommended: https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/model3/en_gb/GUID-94F63B13-EA2C-45D9-83AB-5DCA6295D587.html

Pipelayer222 2025-11-14 09:31

Teslas must be different. In the past not changing all 4 tires would damage differentials and transmissions.

DontCallMeRadi0 2025-11-19 11:08

What's the science behind that?
