wild that a 40k vehicle outsold the Clio
Until last week, the cheapest spec was actually €50k.
Tesla Model Y is however still down 30% compared to last year's YTD for end of September. And the Model 3 is down 26% compared to last year. Brand wise VW sells more BEVs in Europe this year than Tesla (only counting VW badged cars it's tight, but if we're talking group wise it's a significant lead). Tesla was so extremely dominant in BEVs in Europe last year (and for many years) that it's impressive how they've managed to fumble it this badly in such a short time. It wasn't long ago when Tesla had a 50% market share in BEVs and now it's dropping fast.
Model Ys start below 40k€ in France
That's the new standard spec which wasn't available in September.
Everyone knew that dominance was temporary. Nothing Tesla did would have kept that at long term 50+% market share in Europe.
The People’s Car
There's always a "but" when you pick at straws.
All model Y production lines were down for retooling in q1 for the juniper refresh. Q2 was a production ramp. Q3 now it was the best selling car in Europe and worldwide
But Elon running his yapper doesn't help.
Cheap financing was available throughout September. The reason for the erosion in margin. But it’s important to get the car out there so people can see it.
That’s obvious with the sheer competition now. The fact it retained the number 1 spot is till huge.
Een geweldige prestatie.
you specifically stated that "until last week, the cheapest spec was 50k", which is wrong since the ‘Premium’ LFP RWD started at 39k, and was widely available in September. + a PREMIUM LR RWD starts at 42k€, not too far from 40k.
In Switzerland the weekly sales report for the MY in October are absolutely terrible. Wonder what they did last quarter...
Ok but who gets to drive which one between James, Jezza, and Hammond? James May gets the Tesla for sure
Not true. In Europe there was a "premium" RWD LFP option (500km range). It was costing ~42-47k€ depending on the market. Now it was discarded in favor of a new "cheap" Standard version. So it looks like Tesla just removed the most selling car from their offer...
So they removed the most selling car (Tesla Y RWD with LFP battery) from their offer in favor of a new Standard version... What could go wrong...
European Car Sales (September 2025 units - September 2024 change) * **Volkswagen Group** \- **316,383 units** \- **+9.6%** * **Stellantis** \- **169,703 units** \- **+13.0%** * **Renault Group** \- **115,486 units** \- **+14.9%** * **Hyundai-Kia** \- **97,562 units** \- **+1.5%** * **Toyota Group** \- **87,077 units** \- **+2.6%** * **BMW Group** \- **85,639 units** \- **+4.4%** * **Mercedes** \- **65,854 units** \- **+3.1%** * **Ford Motor** \- **45,328 units** \- **-0.0%** * **Geely Group** \- **39,694 units** \- **+11.9%** * **Tesla** \- **39,032 units** \- **-11.0%** * **Nissan-Mitsubishi** \- **32,092 units** \- **+1.2%**
He already has one.
Premium LR RWD was in the 48-50k range. Premium standard range was in the 44k€ range +~. I dont think iv seen it under 40k ever. Of course in september there was no premium designation. Unless you are sayinf it was so much cheaper in France which is possible but then I imagine all the other variants were equally cheaper
Premium SR RWD: 44.990€ (minus 4200€ from the government) Premium LR RWD: 46.990€ (minus 4200€) New Standard RWD: 39.990€ (minus 4200€)
