By releasing on the last day of tax credit, how many will they sell? And how many people looking at model Y performance will buy a cheaper variant?

Deceptiveideas 2025-09-30 23:17

Also Tesla shops are calling everyone to pick up their lease TODAY for the tax credit and not based on order date. Looks like there's a lot of uncertainty with the tax credit after today. Edit: Comment updated to reflect it's for leases.

Toshiro_Miyamoto 2025-09-30 23:23

Sadly, they’re only accepting cash purchases, finance option isn’t available. Also, I bet it’s an inflated price to capture FOMO buyers. It’s almost 10K more than the Long Range.

feurie 2025-09-30 23:29

That applies for leases

meepstone 2025-09-30 23:31

I bet wanting them to pick it up has more to do with getting more "sales" on this quarters earnings since today is the last day of the quarter as well.

Deceptiveideas 2025-09-30 23:32

Yes some of us theorized this but due to the large amount of money involved it's not something we want to play with. Edit: Looks like the Tesla dealer has a bunch of signs say take delivery by Sept 30, 2025 for the tax credit.

Upuser 2025-09-30 23:41

Can’t you just get financing from another bank though?

cadium 2025-09-30 23:44

Its wild I received a tweet update from the investor relations for Elon's pay package but no e-mail about a Model Y performance, which I had almost purchased 2 years ago to take advantage of supercharging transfer...

PlasticOceanFish 2025-09-30 23:48

I paid $41k after the tax credit for my myp. Seeing this blows my mind

Toshiro_Miyamoto 2025-09-30 23:50

Yeah, probably, but that might be hard to do if you’re at work or something today.

HeronOrganic3727 2025-09-30 23:55

HeronOrganic3727 2025-09-30 23:56

Sure. What APR though? Might negate the $7500 tax credit

Duck_butter_boyz 2025-09-30 23:58

I’m confused - I thought you can only get the $7500 credit if you take possession of the vehicle by Sept 30th. That’s what the dude at the showroom told me. But the email for the MYP says I’m eligible if I “order” it by Sept 30th…

Kuriente 2025-10-01 00:01

Wasn't the higher density pack supposed to give it more range? Honestly I would be tempted if the range was better than the standard LR AWD, but nearly $9K more for 21 fewer miles? Nah.

greygabe 2025-10-01 00:01

It changed. https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/credits-for-new-clean-vehicles-purchased-in-2023-or-after "If a vehicle is placed in service after Sept. 30, 2025, you must have acquired the vehicle on or before Sept. 30, 2025, to be eligible for the credit. You can demonstrate acquisition by entering into a binding written contract and making a payment on the vehicle on or before Sept. 30, 2025. A vehicle is placed in service when you take possession of the vehicle."

THATS_LEGIT_BRO 2025-10-01 00:10

So why does the MYP have a better range than a M3P? 🧐

Redvinezzz 2025-10-01 00:12

The price delta from AWD LR to Perf is only 1k more than the delta on the Model 3. Prices will probably come down after the tax credit goes away, but probably not by $7,500. If someone were a cash buyer for a new MY Performance, now is probably a genuinely good time to buy.

corys00 2025-10-01 00:14

The federal tax credit is regardless of how you finance it. What may change is the instant discount that you get from Tesla when going through their financing program. In that case, you’ll claim on your tax return.

venk 2025-10-01 00:15

It includes 21” wheels and the tow package, which is like 3 grand+ in forced options.

Life_is_a_Taco 2025-10-01 00:16

No way would a performance have longer range than the long range..

Tano_Guy 2025-10-01 00:22

Isn’t the interest tax deductible though for new car purchases?

KnowledgeSafe3160 2025-10-01 00:23

His comment still stands. The higher apr can lead to you paying more than the 7500.

4thAndLong 2025-10-01 00:25

Financing will be available closer to delivery date: https://x.com/r_jegaa/status/1973177103039463445?s=46

DrkNeo 2025-10-01 00:30

Tesla rep told me you can finance later. They are just trying to get the order in.

grommet 2025-10-01 00:31

More kWh (higher density cells)...

Electrical_Quality_6 2025-10-01 00:31

Its all about the power

Toshiro_Miyamoto 2025-10-01 00:33

Good point!

Available_Win5204 2025-10-01 00:37

Previous MYP was around $53k at it's lowest? This is starting at 57.

danperson1 2025-10-01 00:40

If you switch to 19 inch wheels you might match or beat it

Kuriente 2025-10-01 00:40

I understand that performance is less efficient, and that with an identical pack it will necessarily have a shorter range. But the new performance pack is not the same - it's higher density. That opened up the option to potentially have a longer range and that's the part I'm disappointed with.

gsxdsm 2025-10-01 00:42

You don't have to get financing today - you can do it anytime before December.

Toshiro_Miyamoto 2025-10-01 00:45

That’s probably gonna be kind of tricky if you want the tax credit.

Kuriente 2025-10-01 00:46

Interesting point! I just noticed on the configurator the LR AWD only gets 303 miles on the 20" wheels (3 miles less than the P on 21s). That suggests it would indeed beat it - would probably have to lose the presumably bigger brakes though.

ZeroWashu 2025-10-01 00:53

All colors are included as well as either interior color. So a bit of a savings for those who wanted black or red over white

danperson1 2025-10-01 00:59

Apparently the brakes are the same size so the 19s should fit, probably won't get as much cooling though with the stock covers

mcot2222 2025-10-01 01:00

Anyone know anything about the high density cells and the charge performance. That’s the only surprising thing to me.

Kuriente 2025-10-01 01:03

Oh, good to know! I'll wait for someone else to do those tests but I'd honestly consider it if it gets over 350 on the 19s. We do most of our road trips in the winter so I could imagine having winter tires on a set of 19s and then swap to the 21s for the summer.

Draygoon2818 2025-10-01 01:05

Yes.

Jklipsch 2025-10-01 01:11

With my MY build, the P would have been a $5k delta. The range loss sucks but it’s such a sick car. Why didn’t Tesla release this sooner? I feel like the MYP definitely has more value for the $.

Busy-Ad-4188 2025-10-01 01:11

Just bought it.

Lkwdgn 2025-10-01 01:11

I paid $37k and still think this is a great deal Considering buying my wife one

Lkwdgn 2025-10-01 01:11

Included incentives and some of us got inventory discount

txreddit17 2025-10-01 01:22

Man had to drop the hammer. $7500 + $1k teacher discount.. $8500 discount too good to pass up.

Suitable_Switch5242 2025-10-01 01:29

It does have more range than it would otherwise. The 2024 Model Y Performance had an EPA rated range of 285 miles. The current Model 3 Performance is rated for 298 miles. So if this Model Y had the same battery energy as those models you would expect a lower rated range than 308 miles.

legalbeavers 2025-10-01 01:38

Doesn’t change anything. Tesla doesn’t enter the binding contracts until actual delivery, so this changes nothing. Take possession today or lose the credit.

greygabe 2025-10-01 01:41

Tesla did the changes they needed just for today. Go to the website. It's right at the top banner. "Secure the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit Order by September 30. Take delivery later. Order Now" ^(1) [$7,500 federal tax credit](https://www.tesla.com/IRA) available to eligible buyers who order a qualifying vehicle by September 30, 2025 and take delivery while the credit is still offered by the IRS. Leases not eligible. Not all model trims will qualify. MSRP cap of $80,000 for Model Y. Consult a tax professional regarding your personal eligibility. Terms and conditions may change at anytime and the tax credit is not guaranteed. Tesla is not liable for any changes to the federal tax credit program that may impact your ability to claim this benefit and recommends taking delivery as soon as possible as the program is subject to end at any time without notice.

Sara_Zigggler 2025-10-01 01:59

I’m an old fart but paying $13k more for 2 seconds less 0-60 and 50 less miles range makes no sense.

Timberwolfgray 2025-10-01 02:06

"Pull the lever Crunck!" "Wrong lever...."

Biryani_Wala 2025-10-01 02:10

2 seconds is huge.

iceynyo 2025-10-01 02:17

Why wouldn't they just release it earlier to get sales?

AdditionalLead7265 2025-10-01 02:32

I got an email for MYP

AdditionalLead7265 2025-10-01 02:33

I can finally tell my wife to stop getting so upset now

AdditionalLead7265 2025-10-01 02:34

It changed like a week ago where have you been

tekdemon 2025-10-01 02:42

Supposedly it’s 85kwh with 82kwh usable which aligns fairly well with the range increase.

Electrical_Quality_6 2025-10-01 02:46

it’s first and foremost power but additionally also suspension and feathering to the steering just some advanced tesla magic really

Miami_da_U 2025-10-01 02:48

If you buy you don’t need to take delivery yet. So worth trying to get in under the wire still

ItsallLegos 2025-10-01 02:57

Which color? Can’t decide between red or quicksilver.

Advanced-Mango-420 2025-10-01 03:00

Yes but people buy hellcats and cobras for over 2x the price of the base trim, there will always be enthusiasts, rich people or people with bad spending habits

notrhj 2025-10-01 03:03

Ordered, now we wait

kash04 2025-10-01 03:05

SC transfer on top of a y performance and i would totally move!

glmory 2025-10-01 03:12

Yeah, my 23 Model 3 SR accelerates just about as fast as I want to accelerate. What I am really waiting for is the 6/7 seater version.

gsxdsm 2025-10-01 03:23

You just need an order in.

828r 2025-10-01 03:36

No. It was changed earlier this month. You only need to “secure” the car. So pay a deposit. There’s no contract needed, you’ll still get the credit. Just use google — there’s plenty of articles about the change. “In a change to the normal rules, the federal EV tax credit for vehicles acquired in 2025 can be secured with a binding purchase order placed by the September 30, 2025, deadline. This offers buyers protection even if vehicle delivery occurs after the credit expires, potentially months later. “

Rocktamus1 2025-10-01 04:10

Honest question, how are they possible going to sell all new Tesla’s $7500 MORE than what they were selling for yesterday because the credit is gone. It’s clear and obvious the vehicles are worth $7500 more.

start3ch 2025-10-01 05:06

What do you really get with the new performance vs the last one? 0.2s faster to 60, ‘sport’ seats, and adjustable dampers? Not really a big upgrade here

AdditionalLead7265 2025-10-01 05:44

Picked up an AWD earlier and if you factor in the tax credit it's a 3k difference for the performance with hero discount. Kinda wish I just went performance but hey I'm still happy with my own Y. And not like I would have been able to really use the speed anyway...

GeneralWatson 2025-10-01 06:30

Yes but that includes the color red and towing package, Plus they have some really cool sport seats that have a under thigh support extender for the drivers seat

GeneralWatson 2025-10-01 06:48

All heroes deserve a performance vehicle!

GeneralWatson 2025-10-01 06:49

those seats though

AdditionalLead7265 2025-10-01 07:02

If Tesla would upgrade me I'd gladly take it 😅

kopacetik 2025-10-01 09:11

They got me

tigole 2025-10-01 10:53

What's a hero discount?

Embarrassed-Ad3320 2025-10-01 12:17

my question is, does this apply to lease as well? It seems as if it doesn't, I ordered on the 26th and still have not taken delivery.

legalbeavers 2025-10-01 12:34

I suppose time will tell. I didn’t want to risk it, so purchased and took delivery before 9/30.

legalbeavers 2025-10-01 12:37

“take delivery while the credit is still offered by the IRS.” The credit stopped being offered by the IRS on 9/30. I’m not a CPA but I am a lawyer. Best of luck to all who take delivery after 9/30. I hope they get the credit but it’s a big risk if the purchase decision was based on getting the credit.

greygabe 2025-10-01 12:52

Honestly - I think it's a risk for people who took delivery before 9/30 as well with this administration... I'm one of those people and I'm only like 80% confident I'll get my credit once I file.

borkd 2025-10-01 13:14

Underwhelming. Glad I went with the AWD with the 1.99% financing and FSD transfer.

btotheo 2025-10-01 14:15

Bigger screen.

Busy-Ad-4188 2025-10-01 14:38

I went black with white interior. Going to tint windows. It will look sleek. I see a lot of quicksilver. Red is a beauty and really my first choice. I’m just worried that it will stick out and I’ll get too many speeding tickets.

GOA_AMD65 2025-10-01 14:46

I wonder how long until this pack goes in the standard LR model 3 and Y? Less Range Anxiety is a good thing

terran1212 2025-10-01 17:16

They will sell when people refuse to buy and they drop the price.

Feisty-Basis7903 2025-10-01 17:42

I hope we get some good incentives in Canada!

Defiant-Bunch-9917 2025-10-02 00:46

Same size and I think identical just painted red…ha

cadium 2025-10-02 15:36

Yeah I'm just going to wait. It'll probably get HW5 sometime next year as well -- with a discount.

ItsallLegos 2025-10-02 17:32

- Cooled seats that have the adjustable thigh rest - Adaptable suspension - Larger battery - Redesigned exterior/interior - Can act as a power supply for the house (albeit 120v) - The arachnid wheels look awesome - I’m sure there’s more that’s just off the top of my head.

start3ch 2025-10-02 19:45

Oh wow, 2.2kw 120v inverter too. Hopefully that means the non performance model has the hardware, and it gets enabled later

Rise252627 2025-10-03 02:20

They got me. Quicksilver with white seats, fsd transfer. I could not say no.

PLAZALINK 2025-10-05 19:52

Does anyone know when will the lease option be available? Thanks.
