By releasing on the last day of tax credit, how many will they sell? And how many people looking at model Y performance will buy a cheaper variant?

Also Tesla shops are calling everyone to pick up their lease TODAY for the tax credit and not based on order date. Looks like there's a lot of uncertainty with the tax credit after today. Edit: Comment updated to reflect it's for leases.

Sadly, they’re only accepting cash purchases, finance option isn’t available. Also, I bet it’s an inflated price to capture FOMO buyers. It’s almost 10K more than the Long Range.

Yes some of us theorized this but due to the large amount of money involved it's not something we want to play with. Edit: Looks like the Tesla dealer has a bunch of signs say take delivery by Sept 30, 2025 for the tax credit.

I’m confused - I thought you can only get the $7500 credit if you take possession of the vehicle by Sept 30th. That’s what the dude at the showroom told me. But the email for the MYP says I’m eligible if I “order” it by Sept 30th…

Wasn't the higher density pack supposed to give it more range? Honestly I would be tempted if the range was better than the standard LR AWD, but nearly $9K more for 21 fewer miles? Nah.

It changed. https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/credits-for-new-clean-vehicles-purchased-in-2023-or-after "If a vehicle is placed in service after Sept. 30, 2025, you must have acquired the vehicle on or before Sept. 30, 2025, to be eligible for the credit. You can demonstrate acquisition by entering into a binding written contract and making a payment on the vehicle on or before Sept. 30, 2025. A vehicle is placed in service when you take possession of the vehicle."

So why does the MYP have a better range than a M3P? 🧐

The price delta from AWD LR to Perf is only 1k more than the delta on the Model 3. Prices will probably come down after the tax credit goes away, but probably not by $7,500. If someone were a cash buyer for a new MY Performance, now is probably a genuinely good time to buy.

The federal tax credit is regardless of how you finance it. What may change is the instant discount that you get from Tesla when going through their financing program. In that case, you’ll claim on your tax return.

It includes 21” wheels and the tow package, which is like 3 grand+ in forced options.

I understand that performance is less efficient, and that with an identical pack it will necessarily have a shorter range. But the new performance pack is not the same - it's higher density. That opened up the option to potentially have a longer range and that's the part I'm disappointed with.

You don't have to get financing today - you can do it anytime before December.

Interesting point! I just noticed on the configurator the LR AWD only gets 303 miles on the 20" wheels (3 miles less than the P on 21s). That suggests it would indeed beat it - would probably have to lose the presumably bigger brakes though.

All colors are included as well as either interior color. So a bit of a savings for those who wanted black or red over white

Apparently the brakes are the same size so the 19s should fit, probably won't get as much cooling though with the stock covers

Anyone know anything about the high density cells and the charge performance. That’s the only surprising thing to me.

Oh, good to know! I'll wait for someone else to do those tests but I'd honestly consider it if it gets over 350 on the 19s. We do most of our road trips in the winter so I could imagine having winter tires on a set of 19s and then swap to the 21s for the summer.

With my MY build, the P would have been a $5k delta. The range loss sucks but it’s such a sick car. Why didn’t Tesla release this sooner? I feel like the MYP definitely has more value for the $.

It does have more range than it would otherwise. The 2024 Model Y Performance had an EPA rated range of 285 miles. The current Model 3 Performance is rated for 298 miles. So if this Model Y had the same battery energy as those models you would expect a lower rated range than 308 miles.

No. It was changed earlier this month. You only need to “secure” the car. So pay a deposit. There’s no contract needed, you’ll still get the credit. Just use google — there’s plenty of articles about the change. “In a change to the normal rules, the federal EV tax credit for vehicles acquired in 2025 can be secured with a binding purchase order placed by the September 30, 2025, deadline. This offers buyers protection even if vehicle delivery occurs after the credit expires, potentially months later. “

Honest question, how are they possible going to sell all new Tesla’s $7500 MORE than what they were selling for yesterday because the credit is gone. It’s clear and obvious the vehicles are worth $7500 more.

What do you really get with the new performance vs the last one? 0.2s faster to 60, ‘sport’ seats, and adjustable dampers? Not really a big upgrade here

Picked up an AWD earlier and if you factor in the tax credit it's a 3k difference for the performance with hero discount. Kinda wish I just went performance but hey I'm still happy with my own Y. And not like I would have been able to really use the speed anyway...

Yes but that includes the color red and towing package, Plus they have some really cool sport seats that have a under thigh support extender for the drivers seat

“take delivery while the credit is still offered by the IRS.” The credit stopped being offered by the IRS on 9/30. I’m not a CPA but I am a lawyer. Best of luck to all who take delivery after 9/30. I hope they get the credit but it’s a big risk if the purchase decision was based on getting the credit.

Honestly - I think it's a risk for people who took delivery before 9/30 as well with this administration... I'm one of those people and I'm only like 80% confident I'll get my credit once I file.

I went black with white interior. Going to tint windows. It will look sleek. I see a lot of quicksilver. Red is a beauty and really my first choice. I’m just worried that it will stick out and I’ll get too many speeding tickets.
