TigglyWiggly95 2025-08-19 03:13

Why do i feel like in some ways this is nicer than the Model X?

cbelliott 2025-08-19 03:14

This looks amazing. 👌

AmbitiousFunction911 2025-08-19 03:16

Not sure. It’s not, except for the captain chair arm rests and those chairs folding. The X is nicer in every other way.

ontologicalDilemma 2025-08-19 03:19

Definitely better than model X by the looks of it, especially the powered arm rests

apipop 2025-08-19 03:20

So, only two seats in the rear?

deanylev 2025-08-19 03:21

It's quite got quite a bit over the Model X: - Leg support on front seats - Ventilation in second row - Heating in third row - Folding captains chairs - ~~Power frunk~~ This turned out to be false - Faster, actively cooled wireless charging - Adjustable seat head / arm rests

collegedreads 2025-08-19 03:23

Sorry, did they release the specs somewhere? I’d love to see them.

jedi2155 2025-08-19 03:27

Power Frunk? That's the first time i heard of that. And I assume the actively cooled wireless charging is just for the phones. What's this folding captains chair?

Ok-Negotiation-3459 2025-08-19 03:29

Yes, 6 seater. 2 2 2

OriginalType5433 2025-08-19 03:29

Bro I literally just got the juniper and they wanna pull this shit on me 😭😭 looks good tho

ElMoselYEE 2025-08-19 03:37

Not to detract from your point, which is perfectly valid, but FYI the X has heating for third row

SnooDogs7747 2025-08-19 03:38

Correct on the wireless charging

Bderken 2025-08-19 03:39

- Powered front trunk. Can open/close with a button. - yes obviously the cooling for wireless charging is for phones. Lots of Luxary cars have this, it just blows the HVAC air to the phone (not the heated air obviously). - the second row has captain chairs you can see. They fold all the way down unlike the model X. The model Y has seats that fold down flat too. It is that simple to understand.

BaseRape 2025-08-19 03:39

In the Chinese market: have you seen the seats in an alphard tho?

IWantToPlayGame 2025-08-19 03:40

Amazing.

[deleted] 2025-08-19 03:42

Not to mention significantly more range? Like 466 miles!? Is that legit?

deanylev 2025-08-19 03:44

TIL!

MisterBumpingston 2025-08-19 03:46

Alphard can do gravity seats so that’s an edge above.

markbraggs 2025-08-19 03:49

CLTC so subtract about 30% for EPA range

Twofu_ 2025-08-19 03:49

Math hard

Oxi_Dat_Ion 2025-08-19 03:50

The automatic doors on the Model X hard to Beat. One of my. Absolute favourite features on any car ever. And I'm not talking about the falcon doors. I'm talking about the front doors. You just walk up to it with the key and the door fully automatically opens. So useful when youre carrying stuff with both hands. And also its cool as hell. When a passenger is coming towards the car, you can press a button and open the door for them with a button.

Greninjahax 2025-08-19 03:51

No, that’s CLTC which is higher than EPA estimates. Real world conditions will yield roughly the same range as the current AWD MY.

jedi2155 2025-08-19 03:51

Here I was wondering (like 5% wondering) if they started putting wireless car charging like they planned to do for the robotaxi.

CousinEddysMotorHome 2025-08-19 04:05

That's niiiice.

cube3x3 2025-08-19 04:17

Looks like a solid addition of the right features that will increase TAM for Tesla across the globe. I bet they will announce this model for US near Q1!

cdurbin909 2025-08-19 04:27

Where’s this from?

my_ival_789 2025-08-19 04:30

I wonder how good the new damping is.

deanylev 2025-08-19 04:40

I have seen a lot of posts on Twitter about it sourced from [this video preview](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlXKEXBGzG8)

soapinmouth 2025-08-19 04:42

So you just get 1 additional seat? Seems kind of a waste of space. Ironic that the regular Y has a 7 seat configuration. Why couldn't they just do that with the bigger car?

ThankYouMrUppercut 2025-08-19 04:54

Finally. This will turn around those slumping sales numbers.

tychopaat 2025-08-19 05:08

Wait do I see ISOfix latches logo on the third row? If so then this is a gamechanger

g1aiz 2025-08-19 05:10

I usually multiply by 0.65 for EPA.

refresh-mix 2025-08-19 05:11

Still a Model Y CT edition on the outside. But probably still the best value car by far in certain markets.

engwish 2025-08-19 05:13

This looks really good. Here’s to hoping this makes it to the states along with a cheaper config. The US desperately needs a good, reasonably priced EV people hauler.

hammyaustin 2025-08-19 05:20

Just connect the front light bars together and I'm in!

AWildDragon 2025-08-19 05:30

The East Asian market has a lot of people with private chauffeurs and they really prefer having the captains chairs while still sitting in the back.

venk 2025-08-19 05:31

If it comes to the US, a lot of this stuff will be nerfed. It doesn’t have to compete with other Chinese EVs in the US. It may not come out at all as to not eat in Model X sales.

Lindberg47 2025-08-19 05:37

They should really have an option for three seats in the second row.

Myworkacc215 2025-08-19 05:43

This car is not available in the US for now. Entirely designed and produced in China for the Chinese market. There is no word if they even want to make this available internationally. If you're happy with Juniper then there is nothing to regret.

ParaIIax_ 2025-08-19 05:49

new new model y

ParaIIax_ 2025-08-19 05:50

entirely designed in china? doubt it

Super_consultant 2025-08-19 05:59

I have a 2024 Model X Plaid. This Y, just looking at the marketing material, does a lot more better, on first glance. Saying the X is “nicer in every way” seems like just an escape hatch to make us Model X owners feel better.  1. Ventilated second row seats. Seriously, wtf doesn’t the X have this? Captains seats on X is a worthy upgrade, but now the “lowly” Y gets it in the second row? This is a $6000 upgrade on Model X.  2. Arm rests (I keep a big pillow in the second row for passengers on long road trips). Again, $6000 upgrade on Model X.  3. Foldable third and second row seats. I would be happy with just electronically foldable and unfoldable third-row seats.  4. Seat back storage on the first row seat backs. 5. I actually use the wireless charger. Mine gets hot and I don’t understand why they never just routed cool air beneath the screen on that area.  6. NVH on new Model Y is fantastic and great if it’s carried over to this Y L. On my test drive with 2026 Model X, I’d bet it’s just as quiet, but there was terrible wind noise on the passenger side. I’d bet it’s a fixable flaw though.

dellfanboy 2025-08-19 06:00

This is going to sell like hot cakes! Bring it to the USA and I’m buying one!

bebopblues 2025-08-19 06:13

I always thought they should've made a Model X trim/grade with regular doors. It would probably be at least 10K cheaper and sell more. I'm guessing it would be lighter and perform better as well. And the glass roof will be even nicer as one big piece. This Model Y will do. The 3rd row is probably still too cramped for adults, but should be okay for kids. And 2nd row captain's chairs is much better for 3rd row access.

22marks 2025-08-19 07:20

That would put it just over 300 miles. I’d hope it would be a little closer to the AWD’s 327. .7 would put it right at 326.

Devd5147 2025-08-19 07:39

Most of the newer cars are designed in china now. Lars talked about how the new model 3 was designed in china etc. just makes sense as manufacturing there is much easier.

eried 2025-08-19 07:39

do they detect cars to the side? I was playing with the doors on a X plaid yesterday and its a fancy feature but I felt it was not doing any detection when opening

Devd5147 2025-08-19 07:40

China’s social media but clips were posted on X

districtcurrent 2025-08-19 07:54

It’s been spotted all over in testing. They will launch globally within 3 months

[deleted] 2025-08-19 07:55

Too little too late

is_manu 2025-08-19 07:56

I really hate the front and rear. Really ugly. Si happy of my current tesla

Pattont 2025-08-19 08:10

I just got my X a few weeks back. Walking up to the car with your hands full, door popping open, sit, hit brake and the door shuts feels like luxury!!!

g1aiz 2025-08-19 08:14

It is a rough estimate and matches better/worse for different brands.

Oxi_Dat_Ion 2025-08-19 08:17

Yeah facts. Pushing the break to close the door seems like a small feature but that's actually so genius. Love it.

Pattont 2025-08-19 08:19

Agreed. The only issue I ever have with it is sometimes it doesn’t open fully even if there is no one parked next to me. Not sure what would cause it but that’s been the only “error state” I have seen.

unexpectedkas 2025-08-19 08:29

What is NVH?

NoHonorHokaido 2025-08-19 09:27

Because it is. The "luxury" Tesla models are the worst value for your money because they get obsolete and even the "budget" models get better specs/features.

weejockpoopong 2025-08-19 09:45

Would love this in the UK. Rarely have 3 in the back. But if I did need a 5th/6th I would chuck them in the back. Maybe even have these 2 seats down full time.

ParaIIax_ 2025-08-19 10:02

do you have a source for this? interested in it

Devd5147 2025-08-19 10:08

Ninj4s 2025-08-19 10:28

Noise, Vibration, Harshness

Every_Tap8117 2025-08-19 10:58

Now this is a good car. The question is. Will there be a model Y performance version of this and when can i get one in Europe. Edit: big plus for the black headliner.

Build_Everlasting 2025-08-19 11:23

Don't all Teslas have Isofix? I don't know, so I'm asking

HgnX 2025-08-19 11:30

Need this in EU

[deleted] 2025-08-19 11:40

As well as electronically controlled air suspension and 2400 cu ft of cargo space, makes driving the mountain twisties a breeze, and fits five adults with their luggage, frunk fits a US airline carry on, two beach chairs, and an espresso machine. Not trying to diminish the Model Y, great ride for a young family.

_Mr_D 2025-08-19 11:46

Any details/videos of 7-seat Model Y L?

[deleted] 2025-08-19 12:14

Also the display behind the steering wheel with the lane change cameras now. This alone will keep in my X. automatic doors and air suspension as well of course.

[deleted] 2025-08-19 12:16

"And I assume the actively cooled wireless charging is just for the phones" What else would it be for?

[deleted] 2025-08-19 12:24

I don't think this is coming to the U.S. any time soon... So you don't have to worry about it... It would just totally annihilate MX sales and I'm sure Tesla knows this.

[deleted] 2025-08-19 12:28

Not really. plenty of families that need this space but can't afford the X or won't pay the premium for the X... This will be very well received in china and even more so if it makes it's way to the U.S.

[deleted] 2025-08-19 12:29

I thought you folks in the EU only liked tiny cars

QuantumProtector 2025-08-19 12:30

After tax credit ends lol. This person should not have any regrets.

b_e_a_n_i_e 2025-08-19 12:34

These would sell by the boatload in the uk

spwolf 2025-08-19 12:45

That's simply not true

AmbitiousFunction911 2025-08-19 12:57

You just said the captain chairs are improved and the $20 wireless charger. 😂

racergr 2025-08-19 13:08

They do have two ISOFIX on the second row. I suppose they don't in the third row.

HgnX 2025-08-19 13:34

Upvote because true, we get oppressed 😎

greatauror28 2025-08-19 13:40

I doubt this will land on North America as it might cannibalize the normal Y sales.

Solidarios 2025-08-19 13:59

The folding captain chairs has peaked my interest

[deleted] 2025-08-19 14:09

Luxury cars in general tend to depreciate a lot. Add onto that EV and the fact it is Tesla.

Hohh20 2025-08-19 14:10

I actually do not like the display behind the wheel. That is one of the main reasons why I won't get an S or X. I want something different from the standard, and that's one reason why I love the 3 and Y so much more.

sherlocknoir 2025-08-19 14:10

Damn I want this!

WifiIsBestPhy 2025-08-19 14:15

Yes, the third row appears to have latch connectors, which means it is the first tesla to support 4 car seats with latch connectors.

BikebutnotBeast 2025-08-19 14:32

Currently in Chinese, probably in the next day or so. But so far 751km range 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds 201 km/h top speed Long wheelbase six-seat layout **The second-generation (Juniper) suspension system** **is equipped with continuously variable damping shock absorbers** New maximum storage space 2,539 liters Slightly larger 16-in touchscreen Front seats: Seat ventilation and heating, and **electric leg rests** Second row: independent seats, **electric lift armrests, ventilation and heating,** electric folding

BikebutnotBeast 2025-08-19 14:35

The Y L will have an active shock system, but not have the issues with air bags/pump motors failing after a few years.

BikebutnotBeast 2025-08-19 14:36

Yes they do!

Individual-Ad-8645 2025-08-19 14:41

Yes it does. Mine never hit the car next to me, ever.

rmmm_yyzzzz 2025-08-19 14:48

bring it to Canada.

FEARxXxRECON 2025-08-19 15:34

Wouldn't be surprised if there's a Model XL in the future. Sounds appropriate than YL lol

grmelacz 2025-08-19 15:44

No. We do not want huge cars as we do not have places to park them :) This is not larger than usual EU SUV.

pushdose 2025-08-19 15:46

I’d buy this today. My 3 is tired. I’m ready. Bring to US

AmbitiousFunction911 2025-08-19 16:08

Feeling great. You just said the captains chairs are improved (they are), the seat back storage on the front chairs and wireless charger cooling. Tesla could update the captains chairs in the X and the rest of that is basically a few dollars in accessory improvements.

PVLVCE 2025-08-19 16:15

Take away the extra seats and I’m in

edit_why_downvotes 2025-08-19 16:24

2017, mine are fine lol lucky me.

edit_why_downvotes 2025-08-19 16:26

The savings from some door actuators is not going to outpace the cost of a new/revised production line with a new BOM.

twirlch 2025-08-19 16:26

…it just never seemed to work

ElMoselYEE 2025-08-19 16:29

Is this a common problem? I don't follow closely, but I can say my 2019 X has never had issues.

Roboculon 2025-08-19 16:34

> for the Chinese market Everyone knows that the American market is the land of bigger is better. 100% certain this thing is intended for Americans soon.

Roboculon 2025-08-19 16:35

People with kids prefer it too. STOP TOUCHING YOUR BROTHER

_yourmom69 2025-08-19 16:50

For me MX was always mostly a flex over the Y for those not routinely using the rear seats in it. Until there's a proper Yukon killer (Rivian's ahead here!), I think there's very little value in the X outside of rare use cases.

VideoGameJumanji 2025-08-19 17:16

How are the chargers actively cooled?

TeslaFan_ESQ 2025-08-19 17:29

I have a 3rd row Y and would not hesitate to buy this. Unfortunately I don’t live in China so oh well…

WhitePantherXP 2025-08-19 18:38

This is a ridiculous point to make...even as an MYP owner myself

WhitePantherXP 2025-08-19 18:40

Is that technically pneumatic (i.e. air suspension)? How does it differ from the air suspension on a Model X?

WhitePantherXP 2025-08-19 18:41

The X's captains chairs not folding down is a massive oversight. You have so much less room for storage (or sleeping if you choose) because of that oversight. Glad they're at least fixing it in the Y's captains chairs.

WhitePantherXP 2025-08-19 18:42

Have they nerfed other things previously? Anything substantial?

donsqeadle 2025-08-19 19:48

Darn. No turn signal stalks

LoudSighhh 2025-08-19 19:56

Why do I feel like Tesla has out grown model x? Seems like they’re way more interested in Y than X

TigglyWiggly95 2025-08-19 19:57

I think it is cause they sell more Model Ys so the overall gross revenue is higher hence more attention to it.

JasonQG 2025-08-19 19:58

I have an S and used to have a 3, and I actually preferred just having one screen. Maybe I’d feel differently if Tesla let us put the visualizations on the main screen. The UX is worse without a touchscreen

ManyPossession8767 2025-08-19 20:24

Lumbar support made a comeback!

manchegoo 2025-08-19 20:34

> 751km 466 mile range? Seems not possible.

manchegoo 2025-08-19 20:41

And now for those with three kids, they can no longer have the use of the full storage area in the back. So for families of 5, you're going to the airport, you basically have half a trunk (since presumably one of the 3rd row seats is folded up).

Hohh20 2025-08-19 21:04

To each their own. I was just stating my preference. I wasn't making a point. I know some people like the behind the wheel instrument clusters or screen.

MixdNuts 2025-08-19 21:47

I’m 100% trading my 2023 MY for this if it comes to the US.

indolent02 2025-08-19 22:01

It is using China's CLTC rating, which google says is about 30% higher than EPA ratings, so 326 miles EPA, which is still overly optimistic.

Schemebandit 2025-08-19 23:27

Insane?

jai_thkrl 2025-08-20 00:11

This is a valid point. If it comes to US, Model X is done!

deanylev 2025-08-20 00:17

There's a small fan in them, pretty standard in Chinese EVs

Porkus_Aurelius 2025-08-20 01:17

Still hate the front end.

lemmtwo 2025-08-20 01:23

Yeah but does it have a water sensor on the windshield?

applepumpkinspy 2025-08-20 03:22

Taking an Alphard from the airport to the hotel and back is great way to start / end a long flight

MisterBumpingston 2025-08-20 03:35

I travelled in one for a 6 hour trip and it was amazing, even if it was a low to mid range one. Besides the zero gravity business class style seats (taking a guess, never been in business class) is the amazingly plush suspension - driver was driving 140 km/h (90 mi/h) on concrete highway and I barely felt or hear anything. Huge contrast with my 2022 Model Y with its firm suspension that transmits everything in to the cabin and frame.

HULKFFM 2025-08-20 05:31

Test Y with 6 Seater was seen in Germany yesterday.

friedreindeer 2025-08-20 06:27

Fits 5 adults? yes! With their luggage? Sadly not…

katamama 2025-08-20 08:35

Exactly, other manufacturers also have the L variants (long wheelbase) models sold exclusively in China: Audi A4L, BMW Li models, Mercedes c300L etc. This isn't like the highland or juniper refresh (which they also released in China first for different reasons), it'll probably not come to the US anytime soon if at all.

opinions_dont_matter 2025-08-20 11:39

Isn’t this supposed to be the budget friendly version, this doesn’t seem like the mostly likely answer to me, honestly looks like they can’t fit it.

AWildDragon 2025-08-20 12:20

No this isn’t the budget version. The budget version will be a different thing based on the standard Y

[deleted] 2025-08-20 12:58

To summarize, 3 of the 5 over 6", each had a US size airline carry on suitcase, additionally one very large airline trunk, and 4 beach chairs, an espresso machine in carry case. Two collapsible chairs, one suitcase, and the espresso machine went in the frunk, the rest in trunk behind second row. $27/560mi one way with 3 charging stops from OH to SC. The 250kW Lincoln Electric (shout out to WV for modernizing rest stops) and EA (with CCS adapter) top the charts, the Charleston SC Supercharger was showing signs of wear, that whole state is run by petrol heads, EV charging desert zones galore and EV direct sales ban still in place. One issue many legacy auto EV manufacturers fail to focus on is [energy efficiency](https://cdn.motor1.com/images/custom/thumbnail/20240221-bev-us-comparison-energy-consumption.png), with its until recently best in class (Nio EC7 beats it) drag coefficient of 0.24 the MX makes 300mi on a charge very possible for normal people (lead foot here).

Just_M3nU 2025-08-20 13:21

Either u like it or not, the quality of new model Y is just beyond anyone expectations. Truly the best car ever!

BikebutnotBeast 2025-08-20 20:48

No. Not an air suspension. The shocks are active and can go from soft to stiff dampening based on road quality and settings. The height of the car does not change like S and X.

BikebutnotBeast 2025-08-20 20:50

Weather extremes and for some reason rats like the taste of the bags. I've seen some shit.

thekm1 2025-08-20 21:38

so cool!

Impressive_Sell8037 2025-08-21 17:31

model 3 and juniper new models all go to china first and then rest of the world

Snoo-88611 2025-08-22 20:05

More than oversight, they basically didn't have the tech -- at that time to do it. Very very few car's had captain's chair at that time.

Snoo-88611 2025-08-22 20:06

their is almost no X sales to eat into.

bebopblues 2025-08-24 11:37

I have no idea what's involve in producing a normal doors version, so I'm making a lot of assumptions, of course. I'm guessing it is similar to making a convertible version of a standard roofed car, which many car manufacturers have done, usually a year or so after.

DiagCarFix 2025-10-18 01:51

can’t trade in cuz of huge price differences
