The Launch edition/ Refresh looks sooo good in the dark 😍, can't see how people hate the lightbar

That new light bar is such a clean touch — sleek, futuristic, and exactly the kind of detail Tesla needed to make the Model 3 feel fresh again. It’s giving modern spaceship vibes in the best way.

nevetsyad 2025-06-29 17:32

I didn't think I'd like it, but it's really grown on me. Is that puddle light stock? So fire, probably upgrading to one before the EV Tax Credit expires in \~3 months. :(

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-06-29 17:36

Yeah puddle lights come standard with launch edition 🙂

Frituurpanda 2025-06-29 17:38

But this isn't the Model 3..

bloot25 2025-06-29 17:40

Whoops!

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-06-29 17:52

Yeah you should definitely grab one!! Amazing vehicles

Because it looks like a Hyundai.

PhilosophyCorrect279 2025-06-29 18:18

Same here, love the back light bar. Especially at night, it gives off an awesome red glow. Low key wish they would make TESLA lit up at night too.

sp33dmaster77 2025-06-29 18:20

It's clean - I just wish it was somehow more uniquely done. If only Tesla had some unique design language that they could maintain across all their cars. Like Porsches 4-point headlight, BMWs DD's, etc. The bar here looks a tad too much like what others have already done.

[deleted] 2025-06-29 18:30

It just looks generic. It works on the cybertruck because the rest of the vehicle is unique, but the new model Y is just another blob with just another light bar.

SheSends 2025-06-29 18:30

It looks like a Hyundai from the front, driving down the road at night and a Prius from the rear. It's not unique anymore. You could pick out a 3/y from a good distance away before. Now... you can't. They just blend in. That's boring to me, especially with the bland color palette. I also think "ambient" lighting is tacky/cheap looking and a hazard for those driving with them on at night due to the glare and not allowing for proper night vision to set in. But you do you. I know I won't buy another one.

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-06-29 18:32

I think it was just a typo but I knew what they meant 🤣

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-06-29 18:39

Lots of cars have light bars.. even as early as the 1992 mercury Sable.. Porsche, Kia, Rivian, and much more. It's currently a trend in the big automotive. Everyone always goals straight for Hyundai because it's all they see and everyone else says it. But there is much more out there. If you don't like lightbars then... Idk what to tell you but a lot of manufacturers are moving towards it , I guess just sit this one out for the next few years until something else comes out 🤣

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-06-29 18:44

The only way you could tell a model 3 from Y before the refreshes was the right height 🤣🤣 you would literally guess based on if it's sitting low to the road or a bit higher what it was.. now it has its own distinctive look. You can literally see it coming at you and you know what it is with front light bar. No one is guessing it's a Hyundai but haters. It still has the original shape so to the average driver they already know it's a Tesla . Especially driving at night, even if it's pitch black you will know exactly that it's a model Y because the road is literally being illuminated red. But if it's not for you that's fine don't buy another one 😉 you won't be missed

Golfguy809 2025-06-29 18:46

What model is this?

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-06-29 18:47

2026 MY launch edition 🚀

OriginalType5433 2025-06-29 19:12

A German designed the interior too. lol

wtfredditacct 2025-06-29 19:21

>and a Prius from the rear. That's the only part that really gets me.

Pokerhobo 2025-06-29 19:56

Personally, pre-light bar the Y was more distinct on the rode and I think the previous design has aged well while the light bar (at least current non-smooth with two breaks) will age like milk.

nidanman1 2025-06-29 20:08

It looks like any other china EV now. Bug eyes had atleast some character.

DatabaseGangsta 2025-06-29 20:20

I think the rear view is the biggest problem for me. I like the light bar back there, but the rest of the rear is too plain & flat or something

Tesla0ptimus 2025-06-29 20:25

Agreed, but the new headlights look so nice! If I got a new Y, I’d wrap the lightbar between the two headlights for a cleaner and minimalistic aesthetic [Juniper MY without the light bar](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModelY/s/LGFRLRPeP6)

Single-Impression-20 2025-06-29 20:45

White or Black seats.. i cant deciede :(

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-06-29 20:53

Probably just the license plate position, it is a bit low but I got used to it

Electrical_Peanut834 2025-06-29 21:08

Love the light bar

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-06-29 21:15

Definitely white! Makes it look more futuristic and premium, and it's super easy to clean, white also makes it feel more open and spacey inside. I just use a wet microfiber cloth and everything wipes off easy. But if your just naturally a dirty person who hates cleaning or lazy or don't care about a clean interior and want a plain look like every other car just stick with black, I have a little portable vacuum and keep it pretty clean

Gasmaskdude27 2025-06-29 21:16

Looks like a generic Chinese ev now.

Emotional-Buddy-2219 2025-06-29 21:20

I actually like the light bar along with all the other upgrades; they did a great job with the Y.

paulwesterberg 2025-06-29 21:53

Looks like they forgot to paint the inside of your back door.

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-06-29 22:17

No it's the reflection of the light around it.

JPzinBr 2025-06-29 22:18

chinese ev

nevetsyad 2025-06-29 23:37

Nice touch! Wish we'd grabbed one!

oasiscat 2025-06-30 00:38

The headlights are now where the DRLs used to be. The lightbar and the spots where the headlights used to be are purely just overdone DRLs at this point. It reminds me of edgy looking Chinese cars that have very generic designs with sharp lines and pointy, angry lights.

ma77mc 2025-06-30 01:01

The Ambient lighting is the only thing I like about the refreshed Y. It was never a "pretty" car but, I honestly feel like the refresh did it no favours, the rear looks odd with the flat panel and no lines or anything, the number plate should be in the middle to break it up, the light bar looks odd, the headlights sit too low and look like they are just indicators, the front end of the 3 is a much better look, that facelift improved the car, the Y didn't succeed in improving its looks.

ma77mc 2025-06-30 01:02

I think they are too low and too small, headlights are the eyes of the car and to me at least, it looks like its a supplimental light cluster, not the main one, I see it like the indicators in the bumper on 80's cars.

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-06-30 01:17

And you are absolutely entitled to your opinions 🤣

Quin1617 2025-06-30 01:46

I’ll always hate lightbars, they’re too generic looking imo. But I don’t hate them enough for it to be a deal breaker. The first time I rode in a Model Y(for a road trip), it was the quietest and most comfortable car I’d ever been in. And that was back in ‘22. I imagine the highlands are in an entirely different league, regardless of how they look.

SheSends 2025-06-30 02:27

I didn't say a 3 from a y. I said a 3/y. I drive at night and have seen both of the new cars with their lights on at night. Both blend in. I can pick out an older model a good half mile away... now I'm not sure wtf it is. The only vehicle tesla now sells that you know what it is coming or going during the night or day is the CT. It's okay to blend. But you literally posted commenting on how people hate on the car. You're going to get people telling you why... and by the looks of it, a lot of people agree the new y looks similar to other vehicles on the market... and most of us are just talking US... in China, it looks like a handful of other vehicles because they built it to sell there.

tigole 2025-06-30 03:42

I prefer ambient lighting to light up the dark areas inside the car a little, not be in my eyes.

0x077777 2025-06-30 04:13

I mobbed mine out 5% tint all around including the top. Makes for a whole new look in the dark 🕶️

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-06-30 05:46

Yea I got 5% all around except windshield, the new ceramic coating they put on junipers has the roof working well no tint needed

Kalrower 2025-06-30 06:34

The new lightbar is not ugly at all. But the car has imho less character by adding a very generic feature, that is already known from other manufacturers, especially chinese, like hyundai etc The car looks through that adjustment more like a generic car. I dont like the former frog face either, but after all it had a unique and recognizable design.

candidcherry 2025-06-30 12:17

The light bar is growing on me. It’s a bit generic but sharp. The back is where things fall apart for me. Just looks bloated

greatauror28 2025-06-30 13:43

Wait for a few months after everyone who got in/out the Tesla has rubbed on the bolsters and you’re gonna sing a different tune.

wizkidweb 2025-06-30 14:49

I'm happy that I got the very latest version of the original Model Y design. Gone is the Porsche inspiration in Juniper. Franz von Holzhausen has changed his design language quite a bit, no doubt through his interactions with Elon, and I'm pretty sure Elon's design sense is... wanting. But hey, it's still a Tesla, which makes it an awesome vehicle that will last you a long time. If it makes you happy, you should ignore the haters and enjoy.

InterstellarChange 2025-06-30 19:52

Lightbar front end looks fine. It's just not unique. Hyundai, Chevy Equinox, there are others with the same lightbar front end.

ydw1988913 2025-06-30 20:21

Agreed, they made Y and 3 looks like from two different brands

0x077777 2025-06-30 21:09

I have a brand new juniper. The tint guy said the same thing but I didn't let them talk me out of it. It was honestly a good decision because i'm not a huge fan of the heat or light. The stained glass on the roof still lets quite a bit of heat in. In addition to the windshield eyebrow, it's so nice driving around town with a darkened interior.

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-06-30 22:11

Nah I go camping and it's been covered in mud and dogs and everything, kids and such it cleans fine. I added a ceramic coating for like 50 bucks from a thing on amazon. I'm not worried

greatauror28 2025-06-30 22:15

Yeah those are normal dirt which will easily come off. What I’m telling you about is the rubbing of butts onto the seat bolster when getting in/out that will develop into “stretch marks” no product in all of Earth can remove. Don’t worry you’ll learn soon enough.

Dry-Divide-9342 2025-07-01 00:29

It looks alright. The Hyundai Kona has the same lightbar. It’s not exactly ground breaking

jaeger313 2025-07-01 04:16

Unlike the 3’s refreshed headlights, the new Y’s front lightbar isn’t growing on me.

RealKillering 2025-07-01 07:38

Just drove an A6 with an ambient light similar to that, I absolutely hated it. One main thing that I love about my Model Y is that the interior is super dark in the night, it makes driving at night way easier on your eyes.

OwnBathroomKivatch 2025-07-03 17:49

I do not hate the lightbar but the old interior with the wood looks more high end and sportier. I do not like the fabric in my new 3

OwnBathroomKivatch 2025-07-03 17:50

Exactly !!!!!!

AnonsAnonAnonagain 2025-07-04 14:14

How comfortable are the newer style seats? One compliment I constantly get is how plush and comfortable the seats are in my 2023 M3 RWD

THEaiaN 2025-07-04 14:33

The car itself has grown on me, but the back (that i liked the most at first), i just can’t stand it. It seems too narrow or something. Does not look like a beefy suv-ish from behind. The rest is cool

EitherCharacter9342 2025-07-04 15:06

I love the lightbar and wow the ambient lightning looks so good.

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-07-05 04:40

They are super comfortable honestly! Even on long 3 hour trips or so it's pretty good. Feels very plush imo , I came from a 16 Nissan Altima though so take it with a grain of salt haha

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-07-05 04:41

Yea thanks , hardest part is picking what color lights I'm feeling for the ambient haha
