Was wondering about this. Pretty cool that they actually sync all your accounts from the different apps, and of course log you out when you leave.

bking 2025-06-23 22:55

I wonder how Tesla is storing those credentials.

ElectroSpore 2025-06-23 23:02

Nearly all of those SaaS services should be using Oauth or something similar so their is likely a tesla specific token stored not your actual passwords.

This is similar to what they do for a loaner car. When I got a model 3 loaner during service a few months ago I was signed into audible and Apple Music. Pretty sure they just store the access token for as long as it is valid

almosttan 2025-06-23 23:47

Weird because sometimes my car even makes me re-log back into services sometimes.

tech01x 2025-06-24 00:06

It’s the same thing with service loaners.

Why even be here? Why comment?

Lostbot218 2025-06-24 00:34

Oooo I didn’t know that. Also hope to never need a service loaner and experience it but nice to know

Lexsteel11 2025-06-24 00:36

Same- I was just on vacation and the prior family left their Netflix logged in and it wasn’t until the last day I realized my wife never logged in and my 4 year old had just been obliterating some dudes account with My Little Pony lol

bking 2025-06-24 00:40

Neat. I was mentally stuck on my login being tied to a unique piece of hardware (MAC address or whatever) and not Tesla services.

Present-Ad-9598 2025-06-24 00:41

I can’t speak for everyone’s experience but while doing a warranty-part replacement they gave me a loaner and it remembered my air controls, seat/mirror positions, Apple Music, and radio favorites. It was like I sat in the same car but it was suddenly 5 years newer

I still find it funny that the Google car still can't play YouTube...

AutomaticTreat 2025-06-24 01:08

Yeah, it’s actually something I kind of wish you could turn on or off and maybe that capability exists and I am unaware of it. It was kind of creepy the first time that happened to me. It’s a great convenience, but it raises a lot of questions. It certainly the only instance I can think of where this logged in behavior is automatically transferred from device to device.

JTtornado 2025-06-24 01:21

Can confirm this is pretty standard and as reasonably safe as it can be. Much safer than storing your actual password.

[deleted] 2025-06-24 01:49

Does tesla doing well make you cry at night

teslamotors-ModTeam 2025-06-24 01:52

You’re right. Off topic.

errmm 2025-06-24 01:59

Almost every credential is stored on a secured cloud keychain at this point. You had to login via the app to hail a cab. When you get in, your profile is pulled down to the vehicle. Pretty simple.

whiteknives 2025-06-24 02:13

Based on their post history they’re suffering from a textbook case of EDS, so most definitely.

rideincircles 2025-06-24 02:25

I just want my own car to pick up where I left off when listening to music.

judge2020 2025-06-24 02:44

Only thing with seat position is that it really doesn't work across models and sometimes even model years. Had to adjust my loaner's seat and then again when it synced back to my car.

RideFastGetWeird 2025-06-24 03:45

Yeah I'm still not logging in.

Auxilae 2025-06-24 07:14

One of the coolest features of getting a Tesla loaner vehcile during service is that it saves everything to your profile. I'm automatically already signed into Apple Music, and it knows where my Home and Work are, exactly as if I was driving my own vehicle, zero difference. Makes having a loaner go from "ugh, I wish I had my car" to "they can take as much time as they need, hell yeah free supercharging also? let's gooooo!"

Life_Connection420 2025-06-24 08:42

You're right, I thought I was at the model X section, but this is just a regular Tesla motors. I have muted this thread just for you since I have no interest in the Robo taxi

SharpenAgency 2025-06-24 10:40

Obviously, Tesla knows how to do this shit 👌

whatsasyria 2025-06-24 12:07

Wouldn't it be easier to just have Bluetooth and a hotspot.

ZeroWashu 2025-06-24 13:31

Must be similar to what happens when they add vehicles to your account. Recently I had a Tesla loaner and when they added it to my account all I did was unlock with the key card and when the car started up all my navigation data and more was there. I did have to connect my phone via bluetooth to use it as a key and select FSD from settings. the level of sophistication that happens out of sight has never really stopped amazing me. too many products across a company's products are just dumb with no integration or very little. apple makes is easy to move from one device to a like device but in the automotive space I am not sure if anyone has it down to the level Tesla does.

exjr_ 2025-06-24 13:47

> feel bad for those that think it’s cool. Why?

Dr_Pippin 2025-06-24 13:57

And wouldn't physical car keys for our cars be easier? I mean, why would we want something to work seamlessly with zero input by the user?

Dr_Pippin 2025-06-24 13:58

You said that on June 29, 2007, as well, didn't you?

RickShepherd 2025-06-24 14:32

That's called plausible deniability.

Themagicdick 2025-06-24 14:34

This was a while ago but i forgot to log out of Spotify out of my loaner in 2020. I would get songs randomly playing or they would pause mine. I couldn’t logout on my end even with a password change and the integrated logout of all devices on my Spotify. I had to get a new email and had my account migrated.

whatsasyria 2025-06-24 14:35

This doesn't work seamlessly. You still have to login to Spotify. Bluetooth is way easier for this use case.

Dr_Pippin 2025-06-24 15:24

My understanding is you are automatically logged in to all those apps, then when you leave you are automatically logged out. Is that not the case?

whatsasyria 2025-06-24 15:29

I understood it as you needed to login. If what your saying is correct then im 100% with you, in the perspective that is a better experience.

whatsasyria 2025-06-24 15:30

This doesn't work seamlessly. You still have to login to Spotify. Bluetooth is way easier for this use case.

GeniusEE 2025-06-24 16:14

....and every phone it passes by.

juliennite6 2025-06-24 16:46

This is interesting but I would rather just have a WiFi connection. I don’t need this but I would like to use my laptop during the ride

Ljhughes8 2025-06-24 19:26

I was thinking how is it creepy when there is cloud profile. But if you only have one Tesla you may not know

Tesla0ptimus 2025-06-24 19:34

Not to mention saving your seat configuration settings! Plus side mirrors and climate as well. It’s such an awesome feeling stepping into a loaner vehicle that’s customized to your liking

7f0b 2025-06-24 21:19

Must be a newer thing. It sounds like a really nice feature to have, since I would have to adjust the typical stuff (mirrors, seat) and then also the driving features (accel/braking) every time I had a loaner. I've had about 8 or 9 loaners over the last 7 years. They were all mostly older models, with the newest I think being a '19-'20 3P.

Present-Ad-9598 2025-06-24 21:30

Yea both times I had a loaner it was the same model, but that makes sense, I would just create a guest profile so next time you don’t have to edit your actual profile

bloodguard 2025-06-24 22:03

What apps are they syncing? Reminds me of a story I saw about Texting sync to a rental car and the woman's husband suddenly starting to see all the texts coming in from her side piece. I've also personally got into rental cars where the previous renter's contacts are all still on the "Infotainment" console.

adiadrian 2025-06-25 06:28

Can I use the car’s phone connection to make phone calls? I’d like to have a conversation on the car speakers and microphone, even though I’m a passenger.

Bravadette 2025-06-25 09:01

What kinda data is saved to do this?

Ok_Transition7785 2025-06-25 12:56

Use your phone as a hotspot.

shaneucf 2025-06-25 13:42

It's really a fake bubble for people think there's so called privacy... If you are not IT specialist and go extra ways, once you are online you are very exposed..

Savings-Student-3491 2025-06-26 19:45

When can I turn my m3 into a robotaxi and make more money when I’m at work?

ChunkyThePotato 2025-06-27 02:59

No it's not. You log in once and can seamlessly use your account every time after that. That's the easiest and best possible way to play music in the car.

whatsasyria 2025-06-27 03:02

I'd say that is pretty convenient but hard to argue "best".

ChunkyThePotato 2025-06-27 03:05

I don't know why you'd think connecting to Bluetooth each time and streaming from your phone would be better, versus just having your music directly available on the car.

whatsasyria 2025-06-27 03:28

I didn't say that.

ChunkyThePotato 2025-06-27 03:29

You said "Bluetooth is way easier for this use case".

whatsasyria 2025-06-27 03:31

That was in relations to another comment. My only comment to you was that saying the "best" way to do this is logging onto your providers, hoping tokens stay refreshed, hoping that you are actually logged out, and hoping it reconnects.

ChunkyThePotato 2025-06-27 03:32

Huh? There's no "hoping". It literally just works. And it's obviously better than Bluetooth, which is the opposite of what you originally said.

ExultantSandwich 2025-06-30 07:30

That happened to me with an old PlayStation 4 that I sold. Spotify links to PlayStation consoles are apparently immutable from Spotify’s end, or at least they used to be.

Fast-ev 2025-07-19 12:17

This is honestly one of those Tesla features that sounds simple but is incredibly sophisticated behind the scenes. I've used several service loaners and the seamless profile sync is amazing - seat position, music, navigation history, everything just works. For robotaxis this is brilliant because it solves the biggest privacy concern people have about shared vehicles. No more worrying about the previous rider's Spotify still being logged in or your Netflix account staying active after you leave. Really shows how Tesla thinks through the whole user experience, not just the ride itself.

Fast-ev 2025-07-19 12:18

ouch this same thing happened to me
