For all those who may be confused. The gold 2 seater Tesla is called Cybercab, it will be part of the robotaxi fleet, just like the current Model Y’s that are being operated as rob

Right. All Cybercabs are Robotaxis, not all Robotaxis are Cybercabs

Proof_Advance_8431 2025-06-22 22:05

Who's confused?

SSTREDD 2025-06-22 22:14

lol!

Flaky_Mirror_4257 2025-06-22 22:15

I did wonder! Thanks

The Cybercab seems redundant at this time. Why not just modify a M3?

Proof_Advance_8431 2025-06-22 22:33

This is dead brain cells. 😭😭

yexter 2025-06-22 22:36

[this clown](https://x.com/zacksjerryrig/status/1936649682576621713?s=61&t=qzFNK-UPjWua4Fby9K45zg) seems pretty confused

yexter 2025-06-22 22:38

The steering wheel is the redundant thing. Why not make a car where you don’t have to sit cramped in the back seat? The new car is also designed from the ground up to be used as a taxi, dent and scratch free body panels, wireless charging, easy to clean, etc. [article here](https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/2566/tesla-cybercab-to-use-paint-infused-plastic-panels-as-production-hiring-gets-underway)

They'll have both I guess. I mean Ys and cybercabs. I think they found the majority of ride hailing is one or two people. I don't think we'll see the cyber cabs until at least a year. I'm happy it's rolling out. It's cool that him forcing this deadline made the company make at least this ready (a self driving Tesla with a person monitoring it in the passenger seat and a remote team overviewing it).  I think as they go slowly now it will become ok for geofenced cities, and they'll be actively ironing out the kinks for a while. I think having this robotaxi service to build and deliver makes their progress go way faster than before. Now real time humans driving and interacting and sharing the experience... Forces the company to make it work. If they do what they did in Austin with every city they launch in, this could probably take over taxis and Ubers in North America in a few years.  I wouldn't trust it myself yet on the highway. It's hard to die in a city going the speed limit and a passenger able to emergency stop or pull over the vehicle. Do you think they removed the pothole /tire mark avoidance issue with this build? It to me seems the most dangerous current thing with FSD. I still think the nature of machine learning and it being unpredictable and us not knowing what the machine will decide in a given moment is the issue that might keep the safety passenger in the car for sometime. I guess if they give the rider the ability to do the emergency stop / pull over it could be more safe when they're ready to remove that person. It'll probably scale faster than I thought initially now that they have the runway of delivering this service to the public.

Wait, now _I’m_ confused — what in that tweet shows he doesn’t understand the gold 2 seater is called CyberCab? The “cybertaxi” part?

BigSprinkler 2025-06-23 02:01

Calling it now. Don’t think the cybercab in its advertised form ever materializes. The final form will be gutted model 3s and Ys

yexter 2025-06-23 03:26

Yes he’s chosen to be anti Tesla for political reasons and childishly calls it by neither proper name.

yexter 2025-06-23 03:29

I mean, they made the Cybertruck and I’m pretty sure that was a lot harder vehicle to make. Elon’s timelines are often out of whack but he usually does what he says he will. Roadster on the other hand …someday?

shaggy99 2025-06-23 07:47

Giga Texas is pumping out an awful lot of castings for them. I suppose they could be for the small Tesla which was supposed to be built on the same platform.............

shaggy99 2025-06-23 07:48

I think that Cybercab will be much cheaper to build and operate. Possibly more durable as well

DOE_ZELF_NORMAAL 2025-06-23 08:08

Cheaper

You just described everything I want in a normal car...I have kids. I'm not a fan of the CT at all, but I would love a car with dent and scratch resistant exterior and a rubberized easy to clean interior! That would be awesome!

moronmonday526 2025-06-23 21:07

Three days before launch, I had some numbnuts reply to a comment I made on a YouTube video telling me to "try to keep up." He said that Tesla is not launching with the Y. They are building a 2-seater for the service. If only YouTube had the equivalent to r/confidentlyincorrect

Explosev 2025-06-24 14:33

Hard to see it happening under 30k and without a steering wheel.

Strict-Condition-739 2025-06-24 23:16

It’s the opposite. All registered mail is certified but certified mail isn’t necessarily registered.

ChickerWings 2025-06-24 23:25

Isnt this more of a regulatory issue than a capability one? There are different regulations on vehicles without steering wheels, etc.

SnooMarzipans870 2025-06-25 14:04

I’m trying to understand something I haven’t been able to find a clear answer on — are the current Robotaxi test vehicles all Tesla-owned Model Ys, or is it a mix of Tesla-owned and privately owned vehicles? And if private owners will be able to participate in the program, which versions of the vehicles will be eligible

bjdraw 2025-06-26 20:01

Not sure why this is so confusing for people. But you’re 100% correct.

bjdraw 2025-06-26 20:02

I doubt it’s for political reasons. It probably is for personal reasons, a.k.a. Tesla snubbed him.

bjdraw 2025-06-26 20:05

All the current ones are Tesla owned. No details of personal owned cars has been announced.

SnooMarzipans870 2025-06-27 00:01

Thanks for the info

Heliocentrism 2025-06-27 23:29

CyberCab= the car. RoboTaxi = the service.

StarPeopleSociety 2025-06-29 08:28

Will the upcoming cheap model 2 have a back seat they can accommodate a toddler car seat? Some reporting 25k for a model 2, some saying it will be 10k??? Crazy if you add an EV tax credit savings to that huh, so cheap

Zealousideal_Aside96 2025-07-07 23:26

You made a post over this? lol
