When your Robo taxi arrives, the exterior lights pulse so you don’t get it confused with one of the other million Teslas on the road

Your robo taxi will also not have a driver so that's another easy way to tell it apart 😅

ackermann 2025-06-22 19:59

It will at first, I think. They’ll surely start with safety drivers, like Waymo did, and eventually remove them

Nobody is in the driver’s seat. There’s a “safety monitor” in the passenger seat.

Proof_Advance_8431 2025-06-22 20:07

I want them to pulse Rainbow colors!

spatel14 2025-06-22 20:21

Waymo does this well tbh, displaying your initial and chosen color at the top.

ChunkyThePotato 2025-06-22 20:29

It's already driverless. Literally today. You lost.

Lovevas 2025-06-22 20:35

No, there is no one in the driver seat. This is already confirmed

Lovevas 2025-06-22 20:37

Guess Robotaxi could have it, when there are way more cars in the street. Right now probably not really needed, plus the cars are exactly the same consumer model, which does not have spare screen to show initials (unless show in the front inside screen)

CptUnderpants- 2025-06-22 20:39

It isn't always easy to see inside cars, particularly at night with no cabin lights on and headlights shining at you.

"If you need a geofence you do not have real self - driving." -Elon Musk.

[deleted] 2025-06-22 20:54

Or it puts your access code/name on exterior visible screens

Head 2025-06-22 20:57

ya burnt!

spatel14 2025-06-22 21:09

Yeah the inside screen should display the user color and initials, that’s a good idea

ihatemakinghandles 2025-06-22 21:09

There are plenty of unused LEDs (rear fogs lights) they could easily implement this.

ExplorersX 2025-06-22 21:35

It does! When you get it it shows your name on the screen in the vehicle to verify it's you

Midicide 2025-06-22 21:42

DOT ain’t gonna let that happen

ersatzcrab 2025-06-22 21:42

Rear fogs are red. I don't think it's legal to use them for anything but running lights, brake, turn signal, or fogs. Pulsing red could be confusing.

I’ve used FSD a lot over the last few months and I genuinely don’t understand how this could work with the current tech.

meepstone 2025-06-22 23:06

In the videos the back screen has your name on it when you enter it. So would be obvious if you got into the wrong one.

ChunkyThePotato 2025-06-22 23:10

It doesn't need a geofence. It works everywhere, unlike other systems that rely on scanning roads and building HD maps. But of course it makes sense to start small with a geofence to validate safety before expanding.

New_Reputation5222 2025-06-22 23:14

The only driverless version of Teslas currently require both a geofence and vehicles heavily scanning the small area before being launched.

safetydance 2025-06-22 23:37

Agreed. I like FSD but there is so many times where I’ve had to take over or been scared for my life. Multiple instances of the car trying to go through a red light because another light very close turned green (like when there is two traffic lights in close proximity at Highway on/off ramps.

EverythingMustGo95 2025-06-22 23:45

What’s not to understand? Infrastructure like Uber/Lyft to book a ride from one point to another, FSD to send car to start, when customer enters and taps ready FSD goes to destination. Repeat. Good thing FSD has been perfect for years since there’s no driver to override FSD, but that’s why F is for Full. Uber/Lyft isn’t perfect, I’ve seen drivers show up with the rider gone. Or worse, disabled rider and driver left without them. Maybe Robotaxi will just leave if rider takes too long and disabled can just sue the city that authorized this (Uber/Lyft would have blamed drivers, Tesla can’t).

azuled 2025-06-22 23:49

lol. You had me for a minute.

[deleted] 2025-06-23 00:40

It doesn’t work. It’s just RoboTaxi cosplay at this point. They can have 20 cars in a very small area with good cell coverage. Every time it gets stuck, they will remotely operate it to get it unstuck.

Levfo 2025-06-23 07:28

It isn’t “current” tech that we have access to. I have a 2020 Tesla and it’s HW3. Lot of hiccups, I wouldn’t trust it either. Then there is HW4 on newer vehicles. Much better. THEN there is HW5 which robotaxis have, including front bumper cameras. The goal is to have everyone with FSD upgraded to HW5 for free.. eventually.

LeVoyantU 2025-06-23 14:34

I've not seen any confirmation the robotaxis have HW5. How do you know that?

Ladi91 2025-06-23 15:45

u/spatel14 How do you change the chosen color at the top of the car?

spatel14 2025-06-23 15:46

In the Waymo app, you can set your custom color and it pulls your initials from your name, and displays it on a special rotary display at the top of the car.

Ladi91 2025-06-23 15:48

I went through the settings but I cannot find this customization option.

spatel14 2025-06-23 15:49

I THINK it might've been on the screen when you're waiting for a Waymo, you can set the option there for color. I don't have Waymo where I live (I used it in SF when there for work) so not sure exactly, but I just recall the specific color I picked being displayed.

Ladi91 2025-06-23 15:59

Haaaa that makes sense! I will check it out for my next ride. Thanks!

InertState 2025-06-24 13:52

Interesting, where did they put the lidar?

kylecordes 2025-06-24 14:21

Not going to help much if Tesla rolls out as many of these things as people suspect they will.

whalechasin 2025-06-24 15:57

or you just check the rear license plate the same way to get into any other ride share vehicle

[deleted] 2025-06-24 16:07

Or stay fixed in one position as an observer and not risk walking behind vehicles as a matter of safety. A 360 view solution. If you want to be part of Tesla you think future not the past. Nice try.

Levfo 2025-06-24 16:08

I’m not sure about compute upgrades but robotaxis have bumper cams that all other teslas don’t have yet. I believe the new X and S will have them as well.

LeVoyantU 2025-06-24 16:23

All model Ys have had the bumper cam since the refresh in March

Levfo 2025-06-24 16:25

Oh ok I thought so but wasn’t 100% sure. So yeah, HW4 doesnt have bumper cams so people are calling the hardware upgrades HW5. Do you know if they have upgraded computers as well?

LeVoyantU 2025-06-24 16:53

Pretty sure HW5 is not out and refers primarily to the new computer that is supposed to launch by early 2026.

[deleted] 2025-06-24 20:48

Well, not in the car….
