And I'm just over here hoping my Tesla App on my S24+ will work more than 80% of the time. I have to consistently force close the app and reopen it for it to work as a phone key, so I'm stuck in the freezing cold or extreme heat for 20+ seconds a fifth of the time trying to get in my car. God forbid I have something in my other hand cause then I have to put everything down to pull out my phone and fix the app.

LyingPieceOfPoop 2025-03-16 22:00

I have the same phone and never had an issue. Not even a single time. It works like charm always. Maybe you haven't given the right permission for the app. Check battery optimization and make sure the Tesla notification is always active.

Serialtoon 2025-03-16 22:08

You need to allow location access all the time and not only when the app is open. I have a S24U and pixel 9 pro xl and fold. None of them have issues like this.

philupandgo 2025-03-16 22:10

This is for Android: long hold the Tesla icon and choose App Info, then Permissions. Grant it access to nearby devices. There is probably something you can do to stop the app going to sleep. In the past I have put a key card in the back of the phone cover where I also keep emergency cash. My current phone is working fine unless it is in my back pocket.

dperkz 2025-03-16 22:20

On Android, you can also use the phone's NFC to unlock the car by tapping it like you would the key card

TKGK 2025-03-16 22:44

Where do I go to do that? I don't see that option. I'm running onnT-mobile. Also I followed /u/philupandgo 's comment, but don't see any options for preventing it to go to sleep, and nearby access is granted already. But i don't think it's a app sleep feature because even when i open the app manually, it still won't work (I had that problem previously but just opening the app would resolve it). I have to manually force stop the app and then re-open it for it to function as a phone key. I can unlock my car with it to hop in to get out of the weather but can't drive till I force stop it and then re-open.

Serialtoon 2025-03-16 23:06

Should be in your battery settings. You need to not "optimize" the app under the battery section in settings.

TKGK 2025-03-16 23:24

The tesla app doesn't even show up anywhere in my battery settings. Deep dive through those settings has a "never sleeping apps" menu but it isn't even listed under that to be able to add. Maybe cause it's currently running? But it's always running. I'm so confused. I do not have this issue with my 2019 model 3, but do with my 2024. But I don't see it being a car issue as just force closing the app fixes it. I also don't try to use as a phone key often with the 2019 any more as my wife drives that one, but she never has an issue with my car (which she does use a lot) with her iphone.

Serialtoon 2025-03-16 23:45

What's your phone again? Samsung? I'm using my pixel at the moment so the settings are little different for me. Ill dig out my S24U and guide you through that setting.

SpikeX 2025-03-17 01:24

And yet, still no ability to rearrange cars/products in the app. TESLA! I do **NOT** want my cars sorted alphabetically!

philupandgo 2025-03-17 01:50

I also find Android overly complicated which is why it was easier to put a key card in the back. Further down in App Info is settings for App Battery Usage.

skyypirate 2025-03-17 04:48

I'm using the Z Fold 6, but I haven't encountered your prob on my entire 1.5 years of ownership of a Tesla to be honest. It sounds more like a phone prob than an app prob. Maybe check if your Tesla app is prevented from running in the background.

mrandr01d 2025-03-17 05:51

Damn it, I got excited cuz I saw assistant and thought it meant that I can finally ask my Google Assistant to do shit with my car.

weejockpoopong 2025-03-17 10:12

Anyone else have the issue when plugged in the charging option is grayed out so you cannot unlock it to remove cable. I always have to open car to do it from the screen. All other controls are there. Friggen annoying.

TKGK 2025-03-17 13:20

My battery settings for the app itself is set to "unrestricted".

Lexsteel11 2025-03-17 13:49

Name them each like the Reservoir Dogs to make it easy- Mr Red, Mr Blue, Mr Grey…

mchinsky 2025-03-17 14:06

How do you set that up?

derekjadams 2025-03-17 17:46

This sounds like a phone/permissions problem, tbh. I've never had an issue with my app in 2+ years of ownership.

dperkz 2025-03-17 21:37

As long as you have the Tesla app installed and your phone is set up as a key, it just works. Tap it on the b-pillar, same as the key card

mchinsky 2025-03-17 22:08

Hmm. I gotta try that thanks. If I, say, have 3 Tesla's on my app, will it work on all 3?

dperkz 2025-03-17 22:38

Good question, I haven't tried that. I only have one Tesla 😂

Jimmy_Durango 2025-03-18 02:06

I’ve never had this happen, not even once. I’ve accessed Teslas with iPhone 10, 11, and now a 14 and they work every time. Are you using Android?

Jimmy_Durango 2025-03-18 02:09

Why don’t you just click the button on the charging cable before you pull it out?

TKGK 2025-03-18 02:16

Yes. I'm on android. And I have had a tesla since 2019. I'm not the only one of my friends who run into this issue though but mine is way worse now with a new highland model 3. It used to be i could just unlock my phone and it would be fine. Now I have to force close the app to make it work and it is much more often.it us3d to be maybe 2% of the time. Now it's close to 10-20%.

Jimmy_Durango 2025-03-18 02:18

Ah, I don’t have any experience with those so I can’t further elaborate, but I hope you get it figured out!

iwilltalkaboutguns 2025-03-18 02:32

Crucially this even works with the phone off. A lot of people dont know this. The NFC chip is always working and will be powered by the Car if the phone is off...pretty nifty.

TKGK 2025-03-18 02:54

NFC doesn't work once my issue occurs. App has to be forced closed then opened. Now with my 2019 modeln3 it would. And it would work all the same just by unlocking my phone (same phone). With my 2024 highland edition when the phone key doesn't want to work nothing works. I can open the app and remote unlock the car to get in. But still have to force close the app and reopen to drive. On my 2019 could just unlock my phone and door handles would pop open and could drive away. Still a pain that I would have to do that 2% of the time, but nothing like now to where I have to force close and app as opposed to just unlocking my phone. I'm on T-mobile, S24+. Not sure if a phone update screwed it all up by changing some settings with the app but I have given it every permission in the world at this point. Restarted my phone multiple times, and repaired phone to the car multiple times. And I'm still having this issue.

EffectiveTask2412 2025-03-18 03:54

I’ve found that the phone key only works for the last car you viewed in the app. I have a widget for each of my teslas on my Home Screen so worst case is I have to click one of them if phone key doesn’t work.

keiye 2025-03-18 08:59

Damn how many Teslas do you have?

weejockpoopong 2025-03-18 18:23

It’s a pod point not a Tesla one, sp no button. All great on superchargers.

Ljhughes8 2025-03-19 16:03

I have both on cars one card . It should

MulderXF 2025-03-21 06:53

But I have two blue teslas!

hesdeadtired 2025-03-23 01:49

You can do this. I don’t remember how but I think I emailed service and they walked me through it. My wife’s car kept popping up by default on the widget. It’s possible. Sorry I’m not more helpful.
