I think it looks worse than the original design. But obviously looks aren't everything.
still would look better with a long, continuous front lightbar
The original design is so tired. This is at least fresh.
Current model y is better looking although outdated
I will take me some time to accept the new headlight location.
[removed]
Yup, either long continuous light bar or remove that middle part. It would look fine even if they just removed the middle part with the 2 thin DRLs
luckily, I heard you can turn off the middle lightbar. That will look a little better but still seems off. They have it continuous with the CT, why not here?
Agreed.
[deleted]
Is there anyway to delete the light bar?
[removed]
I’m sure you could unplug it and wrap it black, or another color.
[deleted]
Won't be going for this one unfortunately
The center of the bar doesn't lift up with the hood though
And cut out part of the wrap to display some text or a logo Just "gottem" in a really small font
I actually think the original model y is their worst looking car lol
Well, it would have to.
I 1000% agree. I kept trying to like it and never could. The new one isn’t much better
That’s a good suggestion, I wasn’t sure if the light bar and any functions other than DRL duties.
Oh dear. Not a fan.
Still, the butt seems like a lazy half done effort. Could have squared off the butt for more sqft.
Looks more modern than the original one for sure. I guess part of the controversy is that many other EVs have a similar light bar in the front.
I wonder if some people will try to insert LEDs in the gaps to complete it lol
That’d be cool
"can confirm I have a totally subjective opinion"
Yes it seems off, bulbous, but the new hood line is flatter, sleeker
That's interesting to me. I see so many say it's just like other EVs but I thought it was an easy inspiration from their preexisting Cybertruck bar
It looks nice for sure but I think most were disappointed because it felt like the OG version had a more original design and this feels like a boilerplate 2025 SUV look.
Damn. That looks great. Just found out i might have 3rd kkd on the way. Can I order one with the 3rd row?
An original design that looked exactly like the Model 3?
For repair cost, they talked about how it's much easier to get one of the pieces then it would be to have to replace the entire light bar if it was singular, meaning shorter repair times and less the insurance has to pay. If they all had special lights solid like cyber truck then it would take a while to get that special piece that goes all the way across instead of three little baby pieces
If only if there was a way or technology that exists to allow for this...
To me it looks better than everything else. Simplicity in design is what makes it timeless. Gimmicky crap in the design is what ages a car fast. Think a nice suit versus a flamboyant outfit.
Understandable, but it still makes it look much worse than it could have been.
No
It reminds me of a bloated Prius. And I like the look of the new Prius, but it doesn't work on the Y.
I'm sure it does, but there's nothing that will ever make me like light bars.
i love how it looks. I wish i had one.. but my model 3 is still working so well!
This is a great car for women! I'm buying one for my wife and mom.
Yea 🤷🏽♂️, it is what it is , but the good news is the tail light looks amazing and great especially illuminating off the ground, and you can barely notice the splits in front light bar in the night, that's when it matters really to show the DRL it's such a small cut it's not noticeable [night DRL light bar](https://youtu.be/ALqOYwvslFs?si=VfdOtBGHW_AiXV__)
I’ve learned Reddit just has users that will hate anything. The car looks amazing. I have the prior generation and it’s clear the inside and out of the new one is arguably better
I agree! Sometimes I feel like there are too many Karen’s and Deborah Downers
But why then brag about having the longest one-piece rear lightbar? Also, in the Jay Leno video they say it's often cheaper to have one piece instead of multiple. Because then they only need one machine for the mold and one process for logistics.
I don't like the back of it. It looks crowded.
Yeah duct tape
I looks awesome with the front light bar
Worlds first " Indirect light" they said 😅 it's never been done before on a production vehicle, the light that you see is actually light bouncing off of a reflective material projected downward. It's not like the traditional light bars
[deleted]
The wheels would look better with only 4 spokes.
Reddit being hateful. Looks like a major improvement
CT is a completely useless truck. It can't tow from state to state. It can't be used to load anything of significant size in the bed. It can't fit into most parking garage spots. It's look will not last, as they are becoming more esthetically unappealing by the day. It's really just a poorly designed SUV. Tesla needs to make a practical truck live Rivian for the masses.
Later this year
Looks way better than the OG jelly bean the more I look at it.
Did you own the older model Y? If so is the ride a lot smoother? Or just marginally better? Thank you.
I agree. Just the hubcaps look atrocious. Everything else is 👍!!!
I’m going to buy one when my current model y reaches 400k miles. I’m at 80k now.
All old legacy model y owners beg to differ lol. They hating on it with every once of energy they have
Model 3 does not count. They're made on the same platform, by the same designer, by the same company. Tesla does not hide that Model Y is basically a blown up Model 3. What people have an issue with the new Y is that the design lacks cohesiveness. It feels like it was designed by a committee hitting checklists than designers with a vision. It feels like a different entity each designed the back, mid and the front without seeing each other's work. How the rear lightbar reflects a glow on the body, and the texture of that surface is pretty neat, but it's not mind-blowing. The rear license plate hangs way too low on the body. The rest of the design is uninspired. The front lightbars would've looked better if it was one piece instead of 3 separate pieces with gaps in between. I would've preferred if Juniper was a blown up Highland instead.
Did not test ride, unfortunately.
Mass-adoption means the part becomes cheaper to produce through mass manufacturing, which means costs on those parts goes down. At the very least, it’s more sustainable for the car companies (and once in a blue moon, the cost savings are passed onto the consumers).
One photo is good. A gallery is better. I’m sure you didn’t stop after that one.
Something gone horribly wrong since COVID, complete reddit turned into worst echochamber imaginable. Its only usecase is some tech tips and recommendations now...
Controversial for me, imo. The backside is very nice, but the front side looks like just another faceless Chinese car brand.
I knew it! Good thing I changed to Model Y from 3. Planing to buy Model 3 but changed when I saw the older version. It really looks different in Person.
not to mention you give them anonymity and a crowd that loves pitchforks its a recipe for mass simplified stupidity
everyone knows people are still gonna buy it.. no one's gonna go yeah, let's just get a Kia. it's pretty much a non story.
Looks to me like a model Y. They are everywhere
Ohhhhh I'm sorry. For some reason I thought that was your garage or something lol. I thought you bought it. 🤦🏻♂️I just realized it's in a showroom. 🤣
I guess there’s some of that too. Half of the people who hate the new design genuinely don’t like it, which is totally fine, and the other half is trolls or bots just stirring the pot. lol
Not just other EVs, I’ve seen them on a few ice Hyundais and ice VWs. I’m sure there’s more.
The rear end is my favorite part. It looks far better than the old rear which looked awkward imo.
The design is uninspired/derivative.
Jay Leno’s garage did a good episode on it
No, it does not. Why keep making these posts?
it is far far better than the overwrought design that is Cadillac. I swear every person on the design committee got to add an element
Right? The pictures don't do it justice but in motion or in person it's about as sharp as it gets for an suv
I think it looks way more unique. Not simply a SUV of the 3. However, $34k OOTD for a 2025 inventory Y is unbeatable.
It does. I saw one the other day and it looked pretty decent. The wheels are awesome.
True. It’s the domino effect. IT goes completely off the subject
OOTD?
White is probably the worst look for this model. Darker colours will create a nice contrast with the new DRLs.
I disagree about making it a blown up highland. Having a a distinct look is way better than the original Y simply being a fat version of the legacy 3.
I used to use Reddit a ton, now I spend maybe 10 minutes/week on here.
Same, and I am really sad. Everything has turned either into hate or politics
I think they mean OTD (Out the Door). This means the total price a person paid for the car, including taxes and fees. If 34k is true, then that's a pretty good deal (I haven't had time to confirm).
Bigger day time lights than the actual lights and light bars, every modern day car design cliche rolled into one. And a worthless badge for good measure.
bots.
I figured it was some form of out the door, but wasn't sure. $34k sounded way too low, but then I remembered in March of 2024, you could get a LR RWD MY for $30,000 with the EV credit, so around $34K OTD depending on taxes and fees in your area.
Yeah, I think like 80% of the strong opinions are bots.
Happen to get any closer pics of the wheels? The back wheel without the aero looks very aggressive. A little dark but can't tell for sure.
Price is great for 2025 inventory, but my Buyers remorse brain is going to tell me to just get the newer model. Ill get hit with instant 10k depreciation but at least ill sleep at night.
It's not a luxury vehicle. It's minimalist and efficient.
But in the same video w/ Jay Leno they talked about how Franz hated the segmentation of the rear light bar and pushed for it to be continuous. I feel disinclined to take them at their word, I bet they just couldn’t work out the manufacturing for the cost they wanted.
The rear lightbar is indirect and sits higher up, and I could be wrong but I think he was referring to if rear lightbar had a split in it , it wouldn't illuminate so perfectly on the ground behind the vehicle or be a solid strong line taking away from the look they were going for. The way they have designed the new bumper it would be very difficult to be hit up in lightbar area unless it's like a lifted pick up truck or something much bigger than the MY. The front light also can be turned off in the middle to make it two pieces which lots of people prefer somehow 🤦🏽♂️ If they are a fan they can turn it off, and I feel like you are far more than likely to get rear-ended by someone not paying attention and hitting a Tesla, Than a Tesla driver to not pay attention and FSD slip or the safety features inside and you run into the back of another car
Took me a bit, but once i saw in person it really grew on me.
I guess if you want it to look exactly like all the other cars right out now.
Yes, it would be preferable to have distinct designs! However, given the choice between Juniper and a blown up Highland, I'd take the highland!
It looks nice in person but it does look like a really big Prius prime. Good thing the Prius prime isn’t ugly people like to pretend it is because it’s a Prius if it had another name not related to Prius people wouldn’t even mind it.
its a beautiful car honestly lol, especially for it's class. anyone who disagrees is just a super butthurt lib
Congrats
To be fair, i have that with every tesla. Looks alot better then on photos (especially the ones on tesla’s site for new cars in the configurator)
Usually both, combined. Just accept democracy and move on
Yeah but the problem with this half assed approach is the mid section of the car looks like shit. The other frontend seemed to fit better… Although still awkward looking.
yes i can confirm that its looks nicer irl. i saw it a eCar event. and the Cybertruck and we could sit in it.
looks chinese
It looks amazing in photos to me! :) best seller is about to best itself
Once social media gets popular, the most upvotes and downvotes will drift towards more and more sensationalism.
Or maybe they just dont think it looks that good, im certainly not a butt hurt lib and im not a super fan of it. Have u ever heard of an “opinion” everyone has one
Well... it's going to depreciate 80% in two years...so no matter what it looks like now you better love it
Love the new front and rear design and stalk is back. Buying one but not sure whether to buy the white or silver? Would have loved the black but I heard it’s not being offered in Australia
I think it looks great. The gold standard in EV technology
Eh probably gonna go Model X now.
Once in a blue moon? Profit margins in the car industry are often 10% or less. Cost savings *are* passed onto consumers. The companies just make a few % extra on top of whatever the cost is. Get real.
Taste is subjective!
This looks objectively better than the previous version of the model Y which I think is objectively a bland car. Literally by design.
fugly.
Yeah but l'll never buy another one. Asshole ruined it.
Looks good why the hate
Still looks like a sucked lozenge to me. Which it has to in order to be aerodynamic, since EV batterys are still not good enough, and I get that.
It's a good looking car. It's going to be the number one best seller again this year and probably every year for the foreseeable future.
Big fan of the white!
It’s Reddit lol. All the hate is from fragile current owners who don’t want to admit that newer models will be better than theirs. To be fair; it happens with everything. The next model is going to better than the previous of anything.
