I think it looks worse than the original design. But obviously looks aren't everything.

andy2na 2025-02-15 22:35

still would look better with a long, continuous front lightbar

fs454 2025-02-15 22:36

The original design is so tired. This is at least fresh.

Solidplum101 2025-02-15 22:48

Current model y is better looking although outdated

[deleted] 2025-02-15 22:51

I will take me some time to accept the new headlight location.

[deleted] 2025-02-15 22:54

[removed]

pkoya1 2025-02-15 22:55

Yup, either long continuous light bar or remove that middle part. It would look fine even if they just removed the middle part with the 2 thin DRLs

andy2na 2025-02-15 22:59

luckily, I heard you can turn off the middle lightbar. That will look a little better but still seems off. They have it continuous with the CT, why not here?

wrongshirt 2025-02-15 22:59

Agreed.

[deleted] 2025-02-15 23:06

[deleted]

diprivan69 2025-02-15 23:07

Is there anyway to delete the light bar?

[deleted] 2025-02-15 23:07

[removed]

AndrewT_1 2025-02-15 23:11

I’m sure you could unplug it and wrap it black, or another color.

[deleted] 2025-02-15 23:18

[deleted]

sambosaysnow 2025-02-15 23:19

Won't be going for this one unfortunately

iceynyo 2025-02-15 23:19

The center of the bar doesn't lift up with the hood though

iceynyo 2025-02-15 23:20

And cut out part of the wrap to display some text or a logo Just "gottem" in a really small font

youzongliu 2025-02-15 23:21

I actually think the original model y is their worst looking car lol

40characters 2025-02-15 23:25

Well, it would have to.

Expensive-Lie4494 2025-02-15 23:34

I 1000% agree. I kept trying to like it and never could. The new one isn’t much better

diprivan69 2025-02-15 23:38

That’s a good suggestion, I wasn’t sure if the light bar and any functions other than DRL duties.

leedsyorkie 2025-02-15 23:43

Oh dear. Not a fan.

pinpinbo 2025-02-15 23:46

Still, the butt seems like a lazy half done effort. Could have squared off the butt for more sqft.

_casshern_ 2025-02-16 00:00

Looks more modern than the original one for sure. I guess part of the controversy is that many other EVs have a similar light bar in the front.

scarface910 2025-02-16 00:06

I wonder if some people will try to insert LEDs in the gaps to complete it lol

Cossil 2025-02-16 00:09

That’d be cool

too_oh_ate 2025-02-16 00:10

"can confirm I have a totally subjective opinion"

Blueliner95 2025-02-16 00:16

Yes it seems off, bulbous, but the new hood line is flatter, sleeker

alexdiezg 2025-02-16 00:17

That's interesting to me. I see so many say it's just like other EVs but I thought it was an easy inspiration from their preexisting Cybertruck bar

Distinct_Abrocoma_67 2025-02-16 00:18

It looks nice for sure but I think most were disappointed because it felt like the OG version had a more original design and this feels like a boilerplate 2025 SUV look.

[deleted] 2025-02-16 00:21

Damn. That looks great. Just found out i might have 3rd kkd on the way. Can I order one with the 3rd row?

_______o-o_______ 2025-02-16 00:21

An original design that looked exactly like the Model 3?

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-02-16 00:24

For repair cost, they talked about how it's much easier to get one of the pieces then it would be to have to replace the entire light bar if it was singular, meaning shorter repair times and less the insurance has to pay. If they all had special lights solid like cyber truck then it would take a while to get that special piece that goes all the way across instead of three little baby pieces

andy2na 2025-02-16 00:24

If only if there was a way or technology that exists to allow for this...

strawboard 2025-02-16 00:33

To me it looks better than everything else. Simplicity in design is what makes it timeless. Gimmicky crap in the design is what ages a car fast. Think a nice suit versus a flamboyant outfit.

andy2na 2025-02-16 00:36

Understandable, but it still makes it look much worse than it could have been.

moto626 2025-02-16 00:46

No

Veearrsix 2025-02-16 00:53

It reminds me of a bloated Prius. And I like the look of the new Prius, but it doesn't work on the Y.

AwkwardlyPositioned 2025-02-16 00:56

I'm sure it does, but there's nothing that will ever make me like light bars.

daviid17 2025-02-16 01:04

i love how it looks. I wish i had one.. but my model 3 is still working so well!

RaspberryLeather1250 2025-02-16 01:09

This is a great car for women! I'm buying one for my wife and mom.

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-02-16 01:09

Yea 🤷🏽‍♂️, it is what it is , but the good news is the tail light looks amazing and great especially illuminating off the ground, and you can barely notice the splits in front light bar in the night, that's when it matters really to show the DRL it's such a small cut it's not noticeable [night DRL light bar](https://youtu.be/ALqOYwvslFs?si=VfdOtBGHW_AiXV__)

dellfanboy 2025-02-16 01:11

I’ve learned Reddit just has users that will hate anything. The car looks amazing. I have the prior generation and it’s clear the inside and out of the new one is arguably better

boomboomqplm 2025-02-16 01:20

I agree! Sometimes I feel like there are too many Karen’s and Deborah Downers

Fire69 2025-02-16 01:59

But why then brag about having the longest one-piece rear lightbar? Also, in the Jay Leno video they say it's often cheaper to have one piece instead of multiple. Because then they only need one machine for the mold and one process for logistics.

Lucky_Chaarmss 2025-02-16 02:20

I don't like the back of it. It looks crowded.

kakamaka7 2025-02-16 02:23

Yeah duct tape

tesla1961 2025-02-16 03:11

I looks awesome with the front light bar

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-02-16 03:12

Worlds first " Indirect light" they said 😅 it's never been done before on a production vehicle, the light that you see is actually light bouncing off of a reflective material projected downward. It's not like the traditional light bars

[deleted] 2025-02-16 03:16

[deleted]

FourtyTwoBlades 2025-02-16 03:17

The wheels would look better with only 4 spokes.

AliBeez 2025-02-16 03:22

Reddit being hateful. Looks like a major improvement

RaspberryLeather1250 2025-02-16 03:31

CT is a completely useless truck. It can't tow from state to state. It can't be used to load anything of significant size in the bed. It can't fit into most parking garage spots. It's look will not last, as they are becoming more esthetically unappealing by the day. It's really just a poorly designed SUV. Tesla needs to make a practical truck live Rivian for the masses.

L84D8M8 2025-02-16 04:22

Later this year

SerCapalot 2025-02-16 04:50

Looks way better than the OG jelly bean the more I look at it.

Brain-Doctor 2025-02-16 05:06

Did you own the older model Y? If so is the ride a lot smoother? Or just marginally better? Thank you.

williamprius 2025-02-16 05:11

I agree. Just the hubcaps look atrocious. Everything else is 👍!!!

electrolux_dude 2025-02-16 05:59

I’m going to buy one when my current model y reaches 400k miles. I’m at 80k now.

MoDa65 2025-02-16 06:59

All old legacy model y owners beg to differ lol. They hating on it with every once of energy they have

ChickenFlavoredCake 2025-02-16 07:07

Model 3 does not count. They're made on the same platform, by the same designer, by the same company. Tesla does not hide that Model Y is basically a blown up Model 3. What people have an issue with the new Y is that the design lacks cohesiveness. It feels like it was designed by a committee hitting checklists than designers with a vision. It feels like a different entity each designed the back, mid and the front without seeing each other's work. How the rear lightbar reflects a glow on the body, and the texture of that surface is pretty neat, but it's not mind-blowing. The rear license plate hangs way too low on the body. The rest of the design is uninspired. The front lightbars would've looked better if it was one piece instead of 3 separate pieces with gaps in between. I would've preferred if Juniper was a blown up Highland instead.

wrongshirt 2025-02-16 08:05

Did not test ride, unfortunately.

dvoider 2025-02-16 08:23

Mass-adoption means the part becomes cheaper to produce through mass manufacturing, which means costs on those parts goes down. At the very least, it’s more sustainable for the car companies (and once in a blue moon, the cost savings are passed onto the consumers).

[deleted] 2025-02-16 09:47

One photo is good. A gallery is better. I’m sure you didn’t stop after that one.

zivac 2025-02-16 09:48

Something gone horribly wrong since COVID, complete reddit turned into worst echochamber imaginable. Its only usecase is some tech tips and recommendations now...

KostaNau 2025-02-16 10:07

Controversial for me, imo. The backside is very nice, but the front side looks like just another faceless Chinese car brand.

Dodge_Splendens 2025-02-16 10:26

I knew it! Good thing I changed to Model Y from 3. Planing to buy Model 3 but changed when I saw the older version. It really looks different in Person.

Salty_Raspberry656 2025-02-16 10:29

not to mention you give them anonymity and a crowd that loves pitchforks its a recipe for mass simplified stupidity

cjeremy 2025-02-16 10:52

everyone knows people are still gonna buy it.. no one's gonna go yeah, let's just get a Kia. it's pretty much a non story.

Life_Connection420 2025-02-16 10:59

Looks to me like a model Y. They are everywhere

Brain-Doctor 2025-02-16 11:34

Ohhhhh I'm sorry. For some reason I thought that was your garage or something lol. I thought you bought it. 🤦🏻‍♂️I just realized it's in a showroom. 🤣

_casshern_ 2025-02-16 11:49

I guess there’s some of that too. Half of the people who hate the new design genuinely don’t like it, which is totally fine, and the other half is trolls or bots just stirring the pot. lol

Dramatic-Truck-3862 2025-02-16 12:56

Not just other EVs, I’ve seen them on a few ice Hyundais and ice VWs. I’m sure there’s more.

[deleted] 2025-02-16 13:58

The rear end is my favorite part. It looks far better than the old rear which looked awkward imo.

Soggy-Bottom_Boy 2025-02-16 14:01

The design is uninspired/derivative.

bjohnson838 2025-02-16 14:16

Jay Leno’s garage did a good episode on it

sinkiez 2025-02-16 14:24

No, it does not. Why keep making these posts?

ZeroWashu 2025-02-16 15:00

it is far far better than the overwrought design that is Cadillac. I swear every person on the design committee got to add an element

[deleted] 2025-02-16 15:04

Right? The pictures don't do it justice but in motion or in person it's about as sharp as it gets for an suv

dexivt 2025-02-16 15:08

I think it looks way more unique. Not simply a SUV of the 3. However, $34k OOTD for a 2025 inventory Y is unbeatable.

Best-Republic 2025-02-16 15:26

It does. I saw one the other day and it looked pretty decent. The wheels are awesome.

boomboomqplm 2025-02-16 16:02

True. It’s the domino effect. IT goes completely off the subject

DAC_Returns 2025-02-16 16:14

OOTD?

Apprehensive_888 2025-02-16 16:37

White is probably the worst look for this model. Darker colours will create a nice contrast with the new DRLs.

Apprehensive_888 2025-02-16 16:39

I disagree about making it a blown up highland. Having a a distinct look is way better than the original Y simply being a fat version of the legacy 3.

OompaOrangeFace 2025-02-16 17:36

I used to use Reddit a ton, now I spend maybe 10 minutes/week on here.

zivac 2025-02-16 17:37

Same, and I am really sad. Everything has turned either into hate or politics

[deleted] 2025-02-16 18:51

I think they mean OTD (Out the Door). This means the total price a person paid for the car, including taxes and fees. If 34k is true, then that's a pretty good deal (I haven't had time to confirm).

redgaze30 2025-02-16 19:07

Bigger day time lights than the actual lights and light bars, every modern day car design cliche rolled into one. And a worthless badge for good measure.

dtpearson 2025-02-16 19:11

bots.

DAC_Returns 2025-02-16 19:27

I figured it was some form of out the door, but wasn't sure. $34k sounded way too low, but then I remembered in March of 2024, you could get a LR RWD MY for $30,000 with the EV credit, so around $34K OTD depending on taxes and fees in your area.

OompaOrangeFace 2025-02-16 19:36

Yeah, I think like 80% of the strong opinions are bots.

Defiant-Bunch-9917 2025-02-16 19:44

Happen to get any closer pics of the wheels? The back wheel without the aero looks very aggressive. A little dark but can't tell for sure.

Defiant-Bunch-9917 2025-02-16 19:46

Price is great for 2025 inventory, but my Buyers remorse brain is going to tell me to just get the newer model. Ill get hit with instant 10k depreciation but at least ill sleep at night.

Defiant-Bunch-9917 2025-02-16 19:47

It's not a luxury vehicle. It's minimalist and efficient.

casino_r0yale 2025-02-16 20:44

But in the same video w/ Jay Leno they talked about how Franz hated the segmentation of the rear light bar and pushed for it to be continuous. I feel disinclined to take them at their word, I bet they just couldn’t work out the manufacturing for the cost they wanted.

Mundane_Engineer_550 2025-02-16 21:20

The rear lightbar is indirect and sits higher up, and I could be wrong but I think he was referring to if rear lightbar had a split in it , it wouldn't illuminate so perfectly on the ground behind the vehicle or be a solid strong line taking away from the look they were going for. The way they have designed the new bumper it would be very difficult to be hit up in lightbar area unless it's like a lifted pick up truck or something much bigger than the MY. The front light also can be turned off in the middle to make it two pieces which lots of people prefer somehow 🤦🏽‍♂️ If they are a fan they can turn it off, and I feel like you are far more than likely to get rear-ended by someone not paying attention and hitting a Tesla, Than a Tesla driver to not pay attention and FSD slip or the safety features inside and you run into the back of another car

towelie1288 2025-02-16 21:40

Took me a bit, but once i saw in person it really grew on me.

Sure-Ad417 2025-02-17 00:20

I guess if you want it to look exactly like all the other cars right out now.

ChickenFlavoredCake 2025-02-17 04:11

Yes, it would be preferable to have distinct designs! However, given the choice between Juniper and a blown up Highland, I'd take the highland!

BadManParade 2025-02-17 04:14

It looks nice in person but it does look like a really big Prius prime. Good thing the Prius prime isn’t ugly people like to pretend it is because it’s a Prius if it had another name not related to Prius people wouldn’t even mind it.

Dry-Effort-7658 2025-02-17 04:18

its a beautiful car honestly lol, especially for it's class. anyone who disagrees is just a super butthurt lib

Plabbi 2025-02-17 08:24

Congrats

generalemiel 2025-02-17 09:23

To be fair, i have that with every tesla. Looks alot better then on photos (especially the ones on tesla’s site for new cars in the configurator)

AlwaysStayHumble 2025-02-17 09:26

Usually both, combined. Just accept democracy and move on

Midicide 2025-02-17 09:41

Yeah but the problem with this half assed approach is the mid section of the car looks like shit. The other frontend seemed to fit better… Although still awkward looking.

NivaViva 2025-02-17 11:13

yes i can confirm that its looks nicer irl. i saw it a eCar event. and the Cybertruck and we could sit in it.

Common-Violinist-305 2025-02-17 12:24

looks chinese

Radium 2025-02-17 17:43

It looks amazing in photos to me! :) best seller is about to best itself

devilsway 2025-02-17 18:14

Once social media gets popular, the most upvotes and downvotes will drift towards more and more sensationalism.

idkausernamerntbh 2025-02-17 20:01

Or maybe they just dont think it looks that good, im certainly not a butt hurt lib and im not a super fan of it. Have u ever heard of an “opinion” everyone has one

Gullible-Paper7092 2025-02-18 02:02

Well... it's going to depreciate 80% in two years...so no matter what it looks like now you better love it

Rusty-23 2025-02-18 02:23

Love the new front and rear design and stalk is back. Buying one but not sure whether to buy the white or silver? Would have loved the black but I heard it’s not being offered in Australia

Still_Government_413 2025-02-18 02:49

I think it looks great. The gold standard in EV technology

MTN2187 2025-02-18 03:03

Eh probably gonna go Model X now.

ChunkyThePotato 2025-02-18 19:52

Once in a blue moon? Profit margins in the car industry are often 10% or less. Cost savings *are* passed onto consumers. The companies just make a few % extra on top of whatever the cost is. Get real.

Blueliner95 2025-02-19 00:28

Taste is subjective!

Dry-Effort-7658 2025-02-19 06:13

This looks objectively better than the previous version of the model Y which I think is objectively a bland car. Literally by design.

dilliomax 2025-02-19 21:17

fugly.

pick-a-bar 2025-02-20 05:18

Yeah but l'll never buy another one. Asshole ruined it.

WindyWeston 2025-02-20 16:43

Looks good why the hate

Easy-Expert9077 2025-02-21 18:43

Still looks like a sucked lozenge to me. Which it has to in order to be aerodynamic, since EV batterys are still not good enough, and I get that.

GARobinson 2025-02-21 18:49

It's a good looking car. It's going to be the number one best seller again this year and probably every year for the foreseeable future.

[deleted] 2025-02-28 17:24

Big fan of the white!

2CommaNoob 2025-02-28 22:35

It’s Reddit lol. All the hate is from fragile current owners who don’t want to admit that newer models will be better than theirs. To be fair; it happens with everything. The next model is going to better than the previous of anything.
