It’s almost as if for some of them the “environmental concerns” in their push toward EVs was all performative. You want to make people already skeptical of EVs stay entrenched in ICE vehicles, make it seem like the whole thing only works when the politics of the actors involved are “right”.

"City documents indicate that, of the 21 zero-emission taxi and limousine owners currently receiving fee reductions, nine are Teslas. The total forgone revenue from these Tesla owners is just $4,677 since the program began." This is going to send shockwaves. I guess they seem to have a ton of ICE cars acting as Taxi/Limo services under this program?

They're attacking the owner who is part of a hostile combative government that is actively trying to harm the Canadian economy - maybe Tesla shouldn't have a part time CEO who's playing President?

csoups 2025-02-12 18:45

A CEO who has explicitly supported, partnered, and worked with a politician who has threatened annexation of Canada, and a company that has time and time again backed this CEO. Sorry, not sorry.

_casshern_ 2025-02-12 18:55

$4,600? lol Toronto is really going in the wrong direction with regard to transportation. Fewer bike lanes because “they cause traffic”, fewer EVs, fewer Ubers, no electric scooters allowed, etc. I guess Toronto wants residents to own ICE cars.

csoups 2025-02-12 19:20

Absurd. When the US needs help and looks around the world for friends, don't be surprised when no one shows up. Canada has been there for the USA time and time again for over a hundred years. This is not how you treat allies.

Driver4952 2025-02-12 19:21

And it will be there for U.S. as the next 51st state. This how you treat allies. Bring them into the fold!

csoups 2025-02-12 19:24

Try and take it. Let's see how well that goes for you.

Tesla Yorkdale isn't a service center from what I can see, it's a showroom. [Find Us | Tesla](https://www.tesla.com/findus/location/store/yorkdale)

Zakkimatsu 2025-02-12 20:45

Time to sell? Long term cost are going to stack up. Rental during maintenance, long waits for appointments, extra service costs. This is getting ridiculous!

sevargmas 2025-02-12 20:53

To fill a bucket, you first need a drop.

sevargmas 2025-02-12 20:55

This isn't about environmental concerns. The first paragraph of the article explains this is directly related to the increasing trade tensions between the US and Canada. They are beginning to remove incentives from Tesla purchases.

Fancy_Load5502 2025-02-12 21:07

At what point does Tesla leadership begin to look at making a change of CEO? My Model 3 is easily the best car I've ever owned and I love the company, but...

A lot of that is because of our ignoramus provincial Premiere Doug Ford, who thinks he’s the mayor of Toronto

PersonalityLower9734 2025-02-12 22:03

Could be, was just more curious that there's only 21 total zero emission taxi and limo owners in total, where 9 of them are Teslas. Just a very small amount

Jakoneitor 2025-02-12 22:04

Go to a service center? Tesla Yorkdale isn’t a service center, so yes, you are not supposed to take it serviced there

dead_ed 2025-02-12 22:20

The Board is not at all independent. Quite the opposite - they're *very* dependent on him. That should have been forcefully changed years ago.

Brusion 2025-02-12 22:30

Yes, it's not a service centre. There are a few service centre's in TO. I was just saying in general, if they "kick Tesla out" they are not just sticking it to Tesla, but people who bought their cars.

Brusion 2025-02-12 22:30

Yes, I know. See other comment.

Anecdotally I have seen more Vinfast (3) than Rivian (1) and Lucid (1 but it had US plates) in the GTA. Not ruling out it could have been the same Vinfast three times.

VIPTicketToHell 2025-02-12 23:00

Wonder why target the Yorkdale one and not Sherway too?

wtrmlnjuc 2025-02-12 23:03

When the stock price drops a lot and the shareholders call for action. At this point it’s the only thing that could make it happen.

VIPTicketToHell 2025-02-12 23:06

I really was looking forward to getting the new Y but with impending tariffs and how it’s become a political statement, I dunno how it will be possible. I’ve had my 3 for nearly 7 years now and planned to keep it for another 7, but the future of the brand seems in jeopardy. There just isn’t a car that ticks the same boxes that exists out there for me.

_casshern_ 2025-02-12 23:07

Yeah but Rivian are also about $150k! Looking forward to their cheaper models next year.

_casshern_ 2025-02-12 23:12

Yes for sure! EVs are 100% better, but selling a working ICE car to get an EV generally doesn’t make a lot of sense!

City should focus on lowering taxes and fixing pot holes. Enough of the virtue signalling.

SnooBooks9106 2025-02-13 01:39

Did we vote the imbocels in to really spend their time on this ? 9 vehicles are Tesla. Hahahah man I need to move out of this fucking city.

ergzay 2025-02-13 02:24

It's stuff like this is the other reason why normally people need to not have corporate entanglements if you're working in government. Because normal people could be influenced by foreign countries (like Canada here) threatening to or actually canceling deals with your companies over your involvement in government in some way or another. Luckily Elon Musk is a very "go fuck yourself" type of person so this can't really affect his political decisions.

ergzay 2025-02-13 02:26

They can call to shut down Tesla Yorkdale but I'm quite sure they can't do anything about it. Unless Canada is truly a place where governments can take away private property.

ergzay 2025-02-13 02:26

And the stock price has done very well because of Elon getting into government thus far. So if anything shareholders are quite happy.

ergzay 2025-02-13 02:28

Trade wars are a thing handled by national governments. This is a city government. This is purely performative.

Eye_Nacho404 2025-02-13 03:04

Call it what you want, small cuts eventually add up

PM_me_Tricams 2025-02-13 03:13

So they are going to win the trade war by making an incredibly small subset of Canadians pay maybe 800$ at most each? And instead of that 800$ they could buy another American car that is still tariffed? What about this isn't performative lol.

PM_me_Tricams 2025-02-13 03:14

It's not even revoking, they stay in the program

PM_me_Tricams 2025-02-13 03:14

Becoming more and more that way every year. It's for the greater good /s

Bob_Lelys 2025-02-13 03:55

Completely ridiculous

Eye_Nacho404 2025-02-13 03:57

They could buy Korean, German and Japanese as well right ?

PM_me_Tricams 2025-02-13 05:03

Mostly manufactured in the US so subject to tariffs

ergzay 2025-02-13 08:48

~$4000 is not something that will "add up". Even if Canada entirely blocked all Tesla sales to the country. It still would not put a major dent in Tesla's overall vehicle sales. Canada just isn't big enough.

i0i0i0i0i0io 2025-02-13 08:52

Other car makers aren't being Trumps attack dog, they are all pretty much as opposed to tariffs as anyone else is.

Eye_Nacho404 2025-02-13 10:21

It’s not, a ton of car manufacturers build in Canada and ship down to the states due to NAFTA. Also you forget the GM and Ford themselves build in Canada as well.

shrindcs 2025-02-13 12:56

In my area there are a few rivian and I’ve seen 3 Lucinda but tons of vinfast, probably because of that crazy 299/m lease they were having

edit_why_downvotes 2025-02-13 15:29

Because it hurts their bottom line.

MainsailMainsail 2025-02-13 16:43

I have hope for the R3. I have a Y right now and that's about the *absolute* biggest car I want. Even if I had R1S money I just don't want something that massive. But at least a one year old Y should last *plenty* long enough to wait out the R3 release and working through initial problems.

Difficult_Pirate_782 2025-02-13 16:43

Think I’ll wait a few years and buy a used Lucid

n4rcotix 2025-02-13 17:28

The city's taxes are pretty low anyway

wsxedcrf 2025-02-13 18:18

ProofArtistic 2025-02-13 18:46

Higher than they need to be when city government speeds time and effort focused on trying to kick car maker out of a mall because they do not like the owner’s politics. Consumers will decide if they want to support Tesla. At this time not a lot of people are rushing out to buy new Tesla’s.

stratamaniac 2025-02-13 20:55

What kind of marker works best for drawing penises and swasitkas on Teslas?

RTR1957 2025-02-14 01:37

[deleted] 2025-02-16 16:26

Just out of curiosity, has the Canadian government shut down private property? And does Tesla own the building or lease it?

scorpi_o98 2025-02-16 17:17

what a nasty and lost lady. Yeah, make the average Tesla-owning Torontonian thats trying to make a living, suffer. Last time i checked it’s our money and choice of what vehicle to buy. And bullying Oxford into closing the dealership? Who is he, a dictator? He has no power to make that decision. and It’s totally inappropriate. They should be focusing on the Fent and homeless crisis. Not this!!!

PM_me_Tricams 2025-02-16 17:21

I mean the trucker convoy for one. Also if doesn't matter if they own or lease. Toronto should not be medeling

[deleted] 2025-02-16 17:27

The trucker convoy was private property?

PM_me_Tricams 2025-02-16 17:28

Yeah their bank accounts were certainly private property. If you can't agree with that in good faith I don't know what to tell you.

[deleted] 2025-02-16 17:42

Easy there, I just asked a question. You just said Trucker convoy, which is such a broad topic. After doing some reading, it sounds like it was a poorly decided tactic. That said, they didn’t take anything. They temporarily froze accounts to stop the most annoying protest I’ve seen in my life time. As far as I can tell, they were unfrozen, not taken.. Basically the Canadian government put them in time out to stop pissing off a majority of the country.. I’m personally okay with that. Them honking horns and blocking emergency vehicles from entering hospitals wasn’t making me aware of anything more than I already knew, other than losing faith in moron people.

Then_Condition2236 2025-02-16 21:51

Sounds like communism to me. Canadians are very smart so I guess it will work for them 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Mediocre-Honeydew-55 2025-02-17 02:08

During the Trucker protest the Liberal government froze the bank accounts of folks that donated $10 to the cause, the Trudeau ordered the banks to do it and so they did. 90 year old grannies lost the ability to pay bills or buy food cause they sent $10 using GoFundMe.

Mediocre-Honeydew-55 2025-02-17 02:10

Southern-Spirit 2025-03-10 19:43

Yeah... it has... if they wanted to... for now it's mostly just bluster. They're probably getting rich off short selling Tesla stock. Then when they're done they'll buy Tesla shares and ride it back up again while telling all their constituents to sell when they should buy and buy when they should sell.
