Couple interesting things: 1. No red tint on the cameras; they definitely got an upgrade. 2. Seems like HW4/AI4 got a slight upgrade. Probably similar to Model Y Reloaded computer that u/greentheonly mentioned on X. Starting to think you should never buy FSD but only subscribe.

tashtibet 2025-02-09 01:50

the world's best seller just got way much better.

That's way much exciting

Giving apple bevel improvement presentation vibes

Tesla does make the most of their marketing dollars. Going to be interesting to see the reviews of this refresh.

Lost_Purpose1899 2025-02-09 03:14

The front still looks it was designed for Chinese market and the rear still looks uninspiring.

They made it more efficient and quieter with a better ride. Three of the biggest things people want in EVs?

mjezzi 2025-02-09 05:23

This video made me appreciate it way more.

danperson1 2025-02-09 05:27

Yep, the ride quality and noise were my main complaints with it. Assuming the reviews are positive I might actually get one now

puffyjacket85 2025-02-09 06:56

it's just the people that recently bought the last of the 1st gen Ys to save a buck (which i respect) that want to help themselves not to experience any fomo over the new generation. "oh yea that things ugly and stupid I'm so glad i just got mine instead"

aerohoff 2025-02-09 07:05

Can Franz be CEO now?

lunaticc 2025-02-09 07:36

Can you explain why not to buy but subscribe to FSD?

ChunkyThePotato 2025-02-09 10:18

If redditors got to choose CEOs of companies, we'd all be so poor lol.

ChunkyThePotato 2025-02-09 10:19

Nah, there's no upgrade. The red tint isn't always visible, and there's no evidence of a computer upgrade. Tesla does hardware iterations all the time that don't have an associated performance increase. Mostly to reduce cost and manage supply chain.

Last_Tumbleweed8024 2025-02-09 10:48

It takes 6.7 years just to break even on fsd buy vs subscribe. At this point we all know 7 yr old fsd hardware is not going to increase the value of the car by how much it cost. You end up losing all that money anyways when you trade up. So unless hw4 and this model y is what you want to keep for a lot longer than 7 years it doesn’t make a lot of sense to buy.

ObeseSnake 2025-02-09 11:01

The Chinese EV market is six times bigger than the US.

Significant-Meal2211 2025-02-09 11:04

Never buy FSD we been saying this since 2016. I predicted Tesla would have a level 4 autonomy vehicle a decade after Waymo solves the problem for any region

SakamotoTRX 2025-02-09 12:10

They did an amazing job 👍👍

drdonger60 2025-02-09 14:25

Knocked it out of the park. Going to be the best selling car again.

slicker_dd 2025-02-09 14:26

As opposed to only the CEOs being rich right now...

unexpectedkas 2025-02-09 14:45

Wait. If I keep the car for 6.7 years, there is no difference. If I want to seel the car earlier, it's better to go with subscription because I will save some months. If I want to keep the car longer than 6.7 years, then I will not pay any more subscription. So even if I can't add it to the resell value, I can still save up money, just have to keep the car longer. No?

ZeroWashu 2025-02-09 15:06

Q3 will be real interesting if not Q2 but supply may blunt Q2

short_bus_genius 2025-02-09 15:37

Yeah. I think the used market has shown that FSD doesn’t add very much to the resale value of the car. On the low end, it adds zero dollars. There are multiple examples on reddit where people bought a used Tesla from a dealer who didn’t understand the car came with FSD. When I was trying to sell my 2018 model 3, I was using carvana to benchmark pricing. My recollection is that toggling FSD only changed the offer by $800 or something like that.

short_bus_genius 2025-02-09 15:39

You’re not wrong. But honestly I think Lars would be a better CEO.

short_bus_genius 2025-02-09 15:39

Hey…. Why you gotta insult bags of dirt like that???

short_bus_genius 2025-02-09 15:42

What I find most interesting about this video, is the presenters. When they did a similar video for model 3 highland, it was just Lars and Franz. This time around, they have a whole army of Tesla execs explaining different aspects of the car. Almost like trying to reinforce that Tesla is more than one person…

Kirk57 2025-02-09 16:23

You’re making a GIANT assumption that subscription prices won’t increase as soon as they achieve unsupervised.

Canuckle777 2025-02-09 16:35

I bought one, I've never owned a tesla, I've never driven a tesla, I am worried it will fall apart or something. Talk me down of this ledge...

FrozenBananaMan 2025-02-09 16:39

I saw the red tint in one of the YouTube first look videos when the embargo lifted, will try to find the link. I believe it’s safe to assume they’re same cameras as model 3 “highland”

JRskatr 2025-02-09 17:30

You need to keep your car for 6.6 years to break even on purchasing FSD vs. subscribing. But at that point you’re getting close if not past your warranty and maintenance can quickly get more expensive, so I think the best strategy is to subscribe and then every 4 years or so sell your car and get a newer one. 👍🏼

JRskatr 2025-02-09 17:32

I also sold a 2018 Model 3 to Carvana in May 2024, I only had 57k miles on it with FSD and they gave me $22k for it. I’m currently driving a used Model Y until I can get this newest model, and doing the FSD subscription.

JRskatr 2025-02-09 17:32

This is also true! Prices could go up but I think it’ll go up for both

JRskatr 2025-02-09 17:34

You think waymo is gonna beat TSLA to level 4 everywhere?

JPMedici 2025-02-09 17:41

Agree with others on 6-7 year break even period. But that at point, you just break even with worse tech. After which your updates fall off a cliff and everything is less fast than the modern compute. I think the most cost effective move is to buy used Teslas then subscribe. Then trade in for a used model for a another used model every ~4 years.

shaggy99 2025-02-09 18:05

I've never had a Tesla either, or any EV, (unless you count an E-Bike) or any new car for a few years, but I'd guess the biggest risk right now is the usual one of early versions generally. Against that, they seem to be ramping slowly, at least in Austin, where they're building on the same lines as the old one.

HettySwollocks 2025-02-09 18:14

Very nicely made video, must give it to the Tesla marketing(?) team. As for the car, love the rear screen for passengers. I also like the automatic rear seats - that must be really useful. Bit dissapointed that there's no 'gestures' to open the boot/trunk and much the same with the frunk (no power). Naturally I still disagree it doesn't have a dedicated drivers instrument panel. That said overall it looks like a good iteration.

ChunkyThePotato 2025-02-09 18:23

Depends how you define rich. Regular people are very rich today compared to regular people 100 years ago, for example. In general, look at the things we have in our lives. We're very rich. Just not as rich as the richest people, which is why you feel that way.

dexterie 2025-02-09 18:50

It’s grown on me. This video is great. I wish they’d add the option for a shade for the panoramic roof. But overall, it’s a great update and in the market nothing comes else close to it. (the comment section is flooded with trolls there… 🙄)

Last_Tumbleweed8024 2025-02-09 19:00

Where is that written down if you buy today down the road you can transfer?

Significant-Meal2211 2025-02-09 19:01

Yep, Waymo already has a level 4 service with no driver operating. They just have to scale now the problem is already solved

Last_Tumbleweed8024 2025-02-09 19:01

So? Reevaluate when that happens? Any decision you make is a “Gaint” assumption. Buying assumes the hardware you buy even has the ability to be fsd. Look at every person that has hw3 right now.

Last_Tumbleweed8024 2025-02-09 19:02

Isn’t that what I said? If you want to keep the car forever and think 7 years down the road you still would value a 7 yr old fsd system then buying makes sense. However, the crowd that buys teslas and fsd typically isn’t someone where that makes sense

JRskatr 2025-02-09 20:17

Hmmm I feel like they’re only good within their own geofenced area they wouldn’t be able to scale it up but we’ll see

Significant-Meal2211 2025-02-09 22:10

Mate how can you argue against an already existing driverless taxi service Vs a non existent one. Is logic soo hard for Americans?

JRskatr 2025-02-10 00:08

Because my Tesla can drive me anywhere right now in Chicago, whereas Waymo cannot. I’m sure Waymo is awesome in its own tiny little area in California where it learned every street and stop light. But it has no data anywhere else so it would likely underperform when put against a Tesla. Also are all Brits assholes? Or is it the lack of sun that makes everyone angry all the time? Sorry if someone hurt you bro, I hope you find happiness soon. 👍🏼

Significant-Meal2211 2025-02-10 03:00

To see if your Tesla is level 4. Put a pillow in the back seat and sleep, take a nap and tell your Tesla to navigate 20 miles only in LA and find parking at destination. I can bet you my kidney your Tesla wont complete the task in an urban environment. Now do said task in rainy weather during peak hour traffic

JRskatr 2025-02-10 03:18

I could try that, and I’ll tell you what.. I’ll see ZERO waymos on my drive since they don’t exist anywhere in my state 😂 as far as I’m concerned Waymo is still nothing more than a concept. By the way I drove 40 miles in heavy rain on the highway years ago and it worked well even then… and that was on a very old version of self driving… but let me know when you get your waymo and post some pictures of it. 😎👍🏼

Significant-Meal2211 2025-02-10 04:28

That's not the point, scaling is easy nailing a city the size of New York or even 1 state means the whole country can be scaled. Even Waymo isn't aiming for full level 5 autonomy. At best Tesla is a limited level 3 system and Waymo a functioning level 4 system

RichardB1995 2025-02-10 11:36

I honestly like it

Vattaa 2025-02-10 13:03

And when will that happen?

Kirk57 2025-02-10 14:48

Within 2 years. But feel free to take a chance and bet against it if you’d like.

Kirk57 2025-02-10 14:51

It would be too late to re-evaluate as the price of FSD will be increased as well. The point is that you’re the one who made the assumption that neither price will change. And you have no evidence to support that assumption.

Kirk57 2025-02-10 14:51

Yes, but if it goes up for both, then you would’ve been better off buying now.

JRskatr 2025-02-10 15:07

Depends on by how much it goes up

Maplestori 2025-02-10 17:15

Really? I thought the rear really looks nothing like other cars. It’s a new design in the industry

Fun-Development-3784 2025-02-11 05:02

They have been making these kinds of videos with more than the two of them for a while now.

Flipslips 2025-02-15 02:02

The trunk opens automatically if you stand behind it for a few seconds with the key (phone).

HettySwollocks 2025-02-15 10:32

Does it?! Was it also ported to the M3, MS, MY or are you just tricking me to go outside and stand by my car looking a bit stupid :)

Flipslips 2025-02-15 15:10

I know it works on the new Y and the X, I’m assuming probably others. https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/model3/en_us/GUID-3667D28B-5B3B-49CE-A1C1-3D70AC60D9F6.html

JackSpearow1521 2025-02-19 18:46

With all the luxuries added to the car, they're really carving out space for a cheaper model that will be similar size, but without all those bells and whistles.
